tournament’s most competitive games, Alison Meyer hit
two free throws with six seconds left to knot the game at
67. Becky Babione swatted away Kim Faimon’s lay-up as time
expired to force overtime. However the Bears came up short
in the extra period as Hastings pulled away to capture the
win 77-69. Shawnee State finishes their season 31-1.Meyer
led the Bears in scoring and rebounding with 17 and 6
respectively. Becky Babione chipped in with 11 points going
3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Kelly Wagner added 10 points
as the departing seniors conclude outstanding careers with
an astonishing 102-20 overall record! Lindsay Ducey led all

The Shawnee State Women's Basketball Team defeated Florida
Memorial 74-58 in the first round of the NAIA Div. II
National Tournament. Shawnee State’s inside game held strong
as Alison Meyer led the Bears with a double-double scoring
19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Jill Cropper also
contributed to the Bear’s tough inside game with 13 points and
9 rebounds. Kelly
Wagner, Mallory Albers, and Shy Johnson each added nine
points in the game.
Florida Memorial was led by Sudanne Stewart and Bianca
Sellers who tallied 19 and 12 points respectively. Kiesha
Alexander pulled down 9 rebounds for Florida Memorial. Shawnee State shot 41% from
the floor in the game as Florida Memorial shot 30%. From
beyond the arc the Bears went 3-for-13 for 23%. Florida

NAIA Division II No. 2 ranked Shawnee State Women’s
Basketball Team defeated No. 17 Cedarville University 59-47
to win the American Mideast Conference Championship
Showcase. Becky Babione entered the game with 990 career
points and the senior from Fremont, Ohio broke the 1,000
career point barrier after draining a three-point goal with
4:34 left in the game to extend the Bears led to double
figures. Babione recorded her thirteenth double-double on
the season as she scored 15 points and pulled down 10
rebounds. Mallory Albers and Alison Meyers each had 13
points in the game respectively. Cedarville was led by Kara
Clayton and Alison Lemon who each had 12 points in the game.
Aubrey Siemon pulled down 12 rebounds for the Yellow
Jackets. Shawnee State shot 31% from the floor in the game
as Cedarville shot 28%. From beyond the arc the Bears went

Shawnee State
Women’s Basketball Team made history Saturday in the Cave
after defeating Ursuline College 106-55 and becoming the
first team in Shawnee State history to go undefeated in the
regular season. This is the eleventh time this season the
Bears had broken the century mark in scoring. Overall the
Bears are 29-0 and went 15-0 in conference play to win their
sixth American Mideast Conference title since the conference
formed in 1999. Shawnee State posted six players in double
figures as Mallory Albers led all scorers with 20 points,
five rebounds, four steals, and two assists. On senior day
Becky Babione tallied her twelfth double-double of the
season with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go along with two
blocks, two steals, and two assists and Kelly Wagner
contributed 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a
steal for the Bears. Shy Johnson recorded 16 points in the
game and Bianca Barton just missed a double-double as she
had 10 points and nine assists. “This is an amazing
accomplishment and it is very rewarding to be a part of
this,” said Head Coach Robin Hagen-Smith. “I am very happy
for the seniors who set the example for everyone. This team
will go down as one of the best team in Shawnee State
history. I’m glad that the fans came out to support the
Bears and be part of this special day.” Whitney Blackburn
was Ursuline’s only player in double figures with 14 points

100-54 . The Bears

had six blocks in the game. Shy Johnson had 14 points and
Whitney Williams added 11 points. Abby Ballman and
Jill Cropper each added 10 points for the Bears. Natalie
Houdek was Notre Dame's only player in double figures with
10 points. Shawnee State shot 44% from the field and Notre

Notre Dame was unable to make a three-pointer out of 10

out seven assists for the Bears. Alexis Harkins led the
Cougars with 17 points and nine rebounds, while Rachel Fiely

rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Senior Kelly
Wagner had 15 points, while freshman Biance Barton added 14
points for the Bears. AMC Player of the Week senior Becky
Babione tallied her third straight double-double as she
scored 12 points and pulled down 10 boards. Cedarville was
led by Rachel Hurley and Alison Lemon who each tallied 16

assists. Alison Meyer had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals,
2 assists, and 1 block in the game. Becky Babione and Shy
Johnson each added 14 points to the Bears’ offense. Babione

In their closest
contest of the season, the Shawnee State Women's Basketball
Team edged past NAIA No. 19 ranked Cardinal Stritch 69-65 in
the final minutes of the game at the Cruzin Classic.
Cardinal Stritch went on a 7-0 run to end the first half and
gain the 41-34 advantage over the Bears at the half.
Shawnee State trailed most of the second half until Becky
Babione drained two free throws to give the Bears its first
lead of the second half at 62-61 with 4:02 to go in the
game. Cardinal Stritch regained the lead at 65-64 with
a lay up by Michelle Stelloh with 1:46 remaining in the
contest. Alison Meyer hit 1 of 2 free throws to tie
the game at 65 all, and Kelly Wagner and Mallory Albers each
drained two free throws to help the Bears survive with a
69-65 victory. Becky Babione posted a double-double (fourth
of the season) as she led all scorers with 21 points and 15

the game with 15 points and 4 steals, while Alison Meyers

After being up
only 36-29 at the half, the #5 ranked Shawnee State Women’s
Basketball Team turned up the intensity to obtain 84-66 win
over rival University of Rio Grande. Shawnee State was led
by Dick Hyland Player of the Game Alison Meyer. Meyer
recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
She also tallied 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in the
contest. Biance Barton added 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2
rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal. Kelly Wagner had 13 pints,
5 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal, while Mallory Albers had
11 points respectively. Leah Kendro earned Rio
Grande’s Dick Hyland Player of the Game Award as she was the
only Red Storm player in double figures with 14 pints. Erin
Kume pulled town a team-high 8 rebounds. The Bears
outshot the Red Storm 47% to 31% in the game. SSU was
7-for-18 from beyond the arc for 39% while URG went 7-for-19
for 37%. From the free throw line, the Bears went 25-for-36

NAIA preseason ranked #5 Shawnee State University opened the
2008-2009 with a 81-65 win over #17 ranked Daemen College.
Alison Meyer led the Bears’ balanced offense as she recorded

12 points in her college debut. Mallory Albers, Whitney
Williams, and freshman Shy Johnson each added 11 points to
the Bears effort. Becky Babione pulled down a team-high 15

Sarah Bogardus led Daemen with 25 points and 7 sevens. Mary
Kate Wilson added 10 points for the Wildcats. Shawnee State had the slight advantage from the field as the
