March 10 vs. Indiana Wesleyan (@ NAIA National Tournament)

Shawnee State's season came to an abrupt end just when it looked as if the Bears would easily move on to the second round of the NAIA Division II National Tournament.  Shawnee State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, lost to 18th ranked Indiana Wesleyan 52-51.  Shawnee State closes out the season with a 24-8 record.  Indiana Wesleyan improves to 29-7.  Shawnee State held a 31-13 halftime lead.  SSU held IW to just 16% shooting in the half, while knocking down 45% of its own attempts.  The Wildcats stormed out of the locker room on a 23-4 run to take the lead with 12:22 to play.  The teams battled back and forth with neither team leading by more than 4 points the rest of the way.  Cassie Hackworth led the Bears with 24 points.  She was the only Bear to reach double figures.  Shannon Thomas had a career-high10 rebounds.  Liz Howerth led Indiana Wesleyan with 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Katrina Spitler added 13 points.  As a team, SSU shot 35% from the field.  The Bears connected on 4 of 16 three-pointers and 5 of 7 from the free throw line.  SSU out rebounded IWU 43-36.  Indiana Wesleyan shot 33% for the game.  The Wildcats were 4 of 25 in the first half and 13 of 27 in the second half.  IWU was 3 of 14 from the three-point line.  The Wildcats drained 14 of 15 attempts from the foul line.

 
February 28 vs. Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, lost to Ohio Dominican 84-67 in the finals of the American Mideast Conference Qualifying Tournament.  Ohio Dominican jumped out early and held an 18-8 lead at 13:02 in the first half.  SSU cut the lead to six, but trailed 45-29 at the break.  SSU closed to within eight points at 58-50 with 10:48 to play, but could get no closer than ten the rest of the way.  Mandy Goin was the only Bear to reach double figures.  She had 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.   Becky Richter led ODU with 28 points.  Amanda Lewis and Nicole Stone had 17 points apiece for the Panthers.  Brandy Caldwell chipped in with 13 points.  Shawnee State shot 52.7% (29-55) from the field.  Ohio Dominican, however, shot 63.5% (33-52) overall and 80% (8-10) from beyond the arc.  The Panthers were 10 of 10 from the free throw line.  

 
February 27 vs. Roberts Wesleyan - AMC Tournament

Shawnee State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, overcame a 38-30 halftime deficit to defeat Roberts Wesleyan College 75-64 and advance to the AMC Tournament Finals.  Shawnee State fell behind early in the first half.  The Bears trailed 29-16 at the 6:31 before closing to within 38-30 at the break.  SSU started the second half on a 14-1 run to go up 44-39.  Roberts Wesleyan fought back and reclaimed the lead at 49-48 on a 3-pointer by Leah Frazier.   Tara Walker answered on the next possession to give SSU the lead for good.  Mandy Goin led SSU with 27 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.  Cassie Hackworth had 12 points and Shannon Thomas chipped in with 11 points for the Bears.  Jennifer Stuczynski led Roberts Wesleyan with 21 points.  Judy Wright had 14 for the Raiders.  As a team, SSU shot 37.5% (21-56) from the field.   The Bears were 0-4 from beyond the arc.  SSU connected on 33 of 46 attempts from the foul line.  The Bears dominated the Raiders 52-33 on the boards.  Roberts Wesleyan shot 36% (22-61) from the field.  The Raiders were 5 of 17 on three-pointers and 15 of 22 from the free throw line.

 
February 24 vs. Notre Dame - AMC Tournament

Shawnee State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, won its opening round American Mideast Conference Tournament game against Notre Dame College by a score of 80-68.  Mandy Goin led SSU with 27 points and 12 rebounds.  She was 10 of 13 from the field and 7 of 8 from the free throw line.  Cassie Hackworth had 16 points.  Heather Schilling and Shannon Thomas added 11 points and 10 points respectively.  Maggie Steadley led Notre Dame with 16 points.  Tamika Watkins added 14 points.  Kristi Wendolowski had 12 points.  Samantha Shagovac and Amanda Blazetic chipped in with 10 points each.  As a team, Shawnee State shot 45.9% (28-61) from the field.  The Bears connected on just 4 of 14 from beyond the arc, but hit 20 of 24 from the free throw line.  SSU out rebounded Notre Dame 38-31.  SSU scored 19 points on 13 Notre Dame turnovers. 

 
February 21 @ Cedarville

The Shawnee State University Women’s Basketball Team, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, fell short in a comeback bid against 3rd ranked Cedarville University on Saturday evening.  Cedarville won the regular season finale 72-68.  Cedarville held a 32-23 halftime lead, but SSU opened the second period with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 32 at the 18:08 mark.  The Yellow Jackets then went on a run of their own.  Over the next 7 minutes, Cedarville outscored SSU 23-7 to take a 55-39 lead.  SSU would cut the lead down to 2 points on three separate occasions, but could never take the lead.  Mandy Goin led SSU with 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Cassie Hackworth and Heather Schilling added 11 points apiece.  Kari Flunker led Cedarville with 28 points.  Emily Delimpo and Brittany Smart had 12 points apiece.  Karah Walton added 10 points for the Jackets.  As a team, SSU shot 43.5% (27-62) from the field.  The Bears connected on 6 of 19 from the three-point line and 8 of 12 from the free throw.  Cedarville shot 50% (24-48) from the field.  The Yellow Jackets were 9 or 19 on three-pointers and 15 of 21 from the foul line.  

 
February 17 vs. Urbana

Shawnee State, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, defeated Urbana University 71-56.  Mandy Goin led the Bears with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Heather Schilling had 17 points, 15 of which came in the second half.  Shannon Thomas had 13 points and Cassie Hackworth added 10 points.   Kelsey Nance had 10 points to lead the Blue Knights. Shawnee State shot 48% (29-60) from the field.  The Bears connected on 5 of 13 three-pointers and 8 of 12 from the foul line.  SSU out rebounded Urbana 41-35 and held Urbana to just 32% (20-62) shooting from the field. 

 
February 14 vs. Malone

Shawnee State, ranked 12th in NAIA Division II, defeated Malone College 74-56.  Cassie Hackworth led SSU with 20 points.  She was 8 of 13 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line.  Mandy Goin had 11 points and 13 rebounds.  Heather Schilling and Shannon Thomas added 10 points apiece.  Nikki Parson led the Pioneers with 17 points.  Michelle Ling added 12 points.  As a team, SSU shot 54% (31-57) from the field.  The Bears were just 1 of 14 from the 3-point line, but connected on 11 of 13 from the free throw line.  SSU held Malone to just 37.5% (21-56) shooting.  The Bears dominated the glass 40-23. 

 
February 10 @ Rio Grande

Shawnee State, ranked 12th in NAIA Division II, defeated The University of Rio Grande 68-55.  Mandy Goin led SSU with 20 points and 9 rebounds on the night.  Heather Schilling had 14 points.  Alkia Fountain led Rio Grande with 15 points and 8 rebounds.  Tiffanie Hager had 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Angel Allen chipped in with 10 points.  As a team, the Bears shot 44% (24-54) from the field.  SSU shot 18 of 25 from the foul line compared to just 10 of 12 for Rio Grande.  The SSU defense held Rio Grande to 34% (22-64) shooting from the field including just 1 of 13 from the 3-point line.

 
February 7 @ Wilberforce

Shawnee State snapped a two-game losing skid with an 81-62 win over Wilberforce University.  Cassie Hackworth led SSU with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Nikki Tucker had 17 points off the bench.  Mandy Goin chipped in with 15 points and 5 rebounds.  Kanisha Coward led Wilberforce with 17 pints.  Jasmin Jones added 15 points and 7 rebounds.  Darla Finley came off the bench with 11 points and 7 rebounds.  As a team, SSU shot 45% (27-60) from the field including 47% (7-15) from beyond the arc. The Bears entered the game shooting just 69.5% from the foul line, but connected on 20 of 23 attempts on the day.  SSU scored 26 points on 21 Bulldog turnovers.  Wilberforce shot 39.7% (25-63) from the field.  The Bulldogs made just 2 of 10 three-point attempts while connecting on only 10 of 19 from the free throw line.  Wilberforce out rebounded SSU 43-35.   

 
February 5 vs. Cedarville

Shawnee State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, came up short in its upset bid over 5th ranked Cedarville University falling 85-80.  The win is Cedarville’s fourth in the last five games against SSU.  cedarville jumped out to a 20-10 lead 7 minutes into the game.  The Bears went on a 16-5 run to take 26-25 lead, their only lead of the game, with 7:44 remaining in the 1st half.  Cedarville closed out the remainder of the half on a 22-10 run to take a 47-36 halftime lead.  Shawnee State would close to within 2 points four times in the second half, the final time with just 1:27 remaining, but could never take the lead.  Cassie Hackworth led the Bears with 21 points.  Mandy Goin had 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Nikki Tucker added 10 points.  Brittany Smarth had 27 points to lead all scorers.  She was 8 of 12 from the field including 4 of 7 from the 3-point line and 7 of 7 from the foul line.  Kari Flunker chipped in with 17 points for the Lady Jackets. Shawnee State connected on 29 of 67 attempts from the field for 43%, while Cedarville was 28 of 56 for 50%.  Shawnee State hit on 7 of 21 attempts from beyond the arc for a respectable 33%.  Cedarville shot lights out from outside connecting of 13 of 21 attempts from the 3-point line for 61.9%. 

 
January 31 vs. Tiffin

For the first time in ten years, Tiffin University scored a victory over Shawnee State University.  Tiffin knocked off SSU 74-61 to rain on SSU’s homecoming festivities.  Shawnee State never got the offense going in the game, shooting just 33% (25-74) from the field including just 20% (4-20) from the arc.  The Bears shot just 7 of 16 from the free throw line.  Tiffin was the first team to shoot over 50% against the Bears this season.  The Dragons connected on 26 of 51 attempts for 51.7%.  They were 3 of 11 from beyond the arc for 27% and 19 of 31 from the foul line.  Tiffin’s Sara Pitson led all scorers with 22 points.  Ashley Lane chipped in with 10 points off the bench for Tiffin.  Cassie Hackworth led the Bears with 12 points.  Shannon Thomas and Tara Walker had 10 points apiece for SSU. 

 
January 29 vs. Mt. Vernon

The Shawnee State University Women’s Basketball Team, ranked 9th in NAIA Division II, snapped a two-game conference losing streak with a 93-69 thumping of Mt. Vernon Nazarene.  Four players scored in double figures for the Bears.  Mandy Goin led all scorers with 18 points.  She also had 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.  Cassie Hackworth chipped in with 17 points.  Heather Schilling and Shannon Thomas added 14 points apiece.  Schilling added 5 steals, 2 blocks, and 1 assist.   Susan Adams led Mt. Vernon with 16 points.  Katie Keller added 15 points.   As a team, the Bears shot 54.4% (37-68) from the field, including 42.9% (9-21) from beyond the arc.  SSU struggled from the line, connecting on just 10 of 21 attempts from the foul line for 47.6%.  The Bears forced 18 turnovers while committing just 12.  SSU dominated the boards 44-27 and out scored Mt. Vernon 20-7 on second chance points. Mt. Vernon connected on 25 of 55 field goal attempts for 45.5%.  The Cougars were 8 of 21 from beyond the arc for 38.1%.

 
January 24 @ Urbana

For the first time since the 1995-96 season, Shawnee State has lost consecutive conference games.  SSU, ranked 2nd in NAIA Division II, lost to Urbana University by a score of 74-58.  This was Urbana’s first win over SSU since the 1998-99 conference tournament.  SSU  went on to win the National Title that season.  Urbana used a pair of 8-0 runs in the first half to take 38-32 lead into the locker room.  After SSU fought back to a 49-49 tie, Urbana outscored the Bears 25-8 over the final 12:31 of the ball game.  Heather Schilling led the Bears with 19 points and 7 rebounds.  She was 7 of 17 from the field including 4 of 12 from beyond the arc.  Mandy Goin was the only other Bear in double figures with 14 points.  Nicole Baptiste led Urban with 19 points.  Missy Miller had 15 points and Brittany Runner added 12 points for the Blue Knights.  As a team, SSU shot a season-low 30.3% (20-66) from the field.  SSU connected on 8 of 25 attempts from the 3-point line for 32%.  Urbana connected on 29 of 62 attempts from the field for 46.8% including 7 of 15 (46.7%) from 3-point land.  Urbana scored 18 points off of 19 SSU turnovers.

 
January 22 vs. Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State, ranked #2 in NAIA Division II, lost a shocker to Ohio Dominican University by a score of 86-78.  Ohio Dominican pulled of the upset despite getting just 17 minutes out of leading scorer Becky Richter.  She entered the game as the AMC’s 2nd leading scorer at 20.4 points per game, but scored just 6 points and grabbed 5 boards before fouling out with 14:47 remaining and the scored tied at 49.  ODU promptly went on a 12-2 run over the next 3 ½ minutes and never looked back.   Sarah Wheeler led ODU with 24 points.  She was 7 of 13 from the field including 6 of 10 from the 3-point line.  Amanda Lewis had 20 points and 7 rebounds.  Nicole Stone added 19 points and Kelly Zunkiewicz chipped in with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Heather Schilling led SSU with 19 points, 3 assists, and 5 steals.  Mandy Goin had 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Cassie Hackworth added 17 points and 7 boards. The difference in the game may have come at the free throw line.  Ohio Dominican, which entered the game hitting 79.5% of its free throw, connected on 17 of 18 attempts from the line.  Shawnee State hit just 7 of 17 attempts from the charity stripe.   Ohio Dominican shot 48.3% (29-60) from the field, which is the highest percentage allowed by SSU this season.  ODU was 11 of 22 from the 3-point line for 50%. Shawnee State connected on 32 of 71 attempts from the field for 45.1%.  The Bears were 7 of 21 from beyond the arc for 35%.  SSU out rebounded ODU 41-34.

 
January 20 vs. Rio Grande

Shawnee State University Women’s Basketball Team, ranked 2nd in NAIA Division II, defeated The University of Rio Grande 67-53.  The game was still very much in doubt at the 4:28 mark as SSU held on to a 52-51 lead.  The Bears, however, would go on a 15-2 run to close out the game and deny Rio coach, Dave Smalley, his first ever win in Portsmouth. Mandy Goin led the Bears with 16 points and 6 rebounds.  She added 2 blocks and a steal to become Shawnee State’s first recipient of the Dick Hyland Player of the Game Award.  Heather Schilling and Cassie Hackworth added 13 points apiece for the Bears.   Tiffanie Hager led Rio Grande with 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks.  Angel Allen chipped in with 12 points and 8 rebounds.  Hager received the Dick Hyland Player of the Game Award for Rio Grande. Shawnee State shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field compared to 35.7% (20-56) for Rio Grande.  SSU knocked down 5 3-point field goals in 15 attempts for 33.3% while holding Rio Grande to 1 of 9 from beyond the arc for 11.1%.  SSU had 16 points on 17 Rio Grande turnovers. 

 
January 17 @ Malone

Shawnee State, ranked 4th in NAIA Division II, defeated Malone College 69-61.  Mandy Goin led the Bears with 18 points and 16 rebounds on the day.  Heather Schilling and Anna Ramey added 12 points apiece.  Schilling added 6 assists and tied a school record with 9 steals.  Nikki Parson led Malone with 18 points.  Kim Mast added 15 points and Michelle Ling had 13 points for the Pioneers.  The Bears overcame a 50-39 rebounding deficit by forcing 19 Malone turnovers and blocking 7 shots.  SSU held Malone to just 34% (23-67) shooting from the field.  The Bears shot 40.6% (28-69) from the field and turned the ball over a season-low 8 times.

 
January 13 vs. Wilberforce

Shawnee State, ranked 4th in NAIA Division II, defeated Wilberforce University 81-62.  Mandy Goin led the Bears with 24 points and 11 rebounds.  Heather Schilling chipped in with 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 steals, and 2 assists.  Shannon Thomas came of the bench with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Jasmin Jones led Wilberforce with 19 points and 8 rebounds.  Darla Finley had 15 points and 12 rebounds on the night.  As a team, the Bears shot just 37.6% (32-85) from the field.  SSU held Wilberforce to just 36.8% (25-68) shooting from the field.  SSU also forced 21 Bulldog turnovers.

 
January 10 @ Walsh

Shawnee State, ranked 4th in NAIA Division II, defeated Walsh University 69-53 to remain perfect in American Mideast Conference play.  Heather Schilling led the Bears with 20 points and 6 rebounds on the day.  Cassie Hackworth added 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Ashley Norman led Walsh off the bench with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  Erin Keldsen added 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Jessy Fye chipped in with 10 points and 7 boards.  As a team, the Bears shot 39.3% (22-56) from the field compared to 28% (17-60) for the Cavaliers.  Walsh connected on just 1 of 10 attempts from beyond the arc for 10%.  The Bears made 6 of 15 3-points field goals for 40%.  SSU scored 19 points off of 18 Walsh turnovers.  For the 4th time in 5 games SSU made less than 70% of its free throw attempts.  The Bears were 19 of 31 from the line for 61%.

 
January 6 @ Mt. Vernon

Shawnee State, ranked 4th in NAIA Division II, defeated Mt. Vernon Nazarene 86-73.  Heather Schilling led the Bears with 23 points on the night.  Tara Walker came off the bench with 12 points and 5 rebounds.  Cassie Hackworth chipped in with 10 points and 4 assists.  Amanda Stevens led Mt. Vernon with 18 points off the bench.  Katie Keller added 17 points and Susan Adams had 14 points and 9 rebounds.  As a team, the Bears shot 47.7% (31-65) from the field including 37.5% (9-24) from beyond the 3-point line.  SSU struggled from the free throw line for the second straight game.  SSU connected on just 15 of 25 attempts from the line for 60%.  SSU turned 24 Mt. Vernon turnovers into 24 points.  Mt. Vernon shot 44% from the field, the highest of any SSU opponent this season.  MVNU connected on 28 of 63 attempts from the field overall and 10 of 26 (38.5%) from beyond the arc.

 
January 3 @ Tiffin

Shawnee State, ranked 3rd in NAIA Division II, defeated AMC foe Tiffin University 71-68.  Mandy Goin and Heather Schilling led SSU with 16 points each.  Schilling added 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.  Tara Walker chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds in just 12 minutes of action. Five players scored in double figures for the Dragons.  Nicki King led the way with 13 points.  Kelly Lindesmith and Brienne Beaschler added 12 points each.   Tiffin is just the 3rd team this season to shoot over 40% against the Bears defense.  The Dragons connected on 26 of 64 attempts for 40.6%.  On the season, teams are shooting just 35% against SSU.  The SSU defense also forced 19 turnovers. SSU shot 41.7% (30-72) overall, but just 23% (3-13) from beyond the arc.  The Bears hit just 8 of 17 from the free throw line. 

 
December 20 @ Kentucky Wesleyan

Shawnee State rebounded from its only loss of the season to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan by a score of 67-62.  Mandy Goin led the Bears with 23 points and 18 rebounds.  She was 6 of 13 from the field and 11 of 16 from the free throw line.  Tara Walker added 12 points and Heather Schilling chipped in with 10 points.  Cassie Hackworth managed just 4 points, but dished out 7 assists.   Holly Mills had 21 points to lead KWC.  Rozalind Jones had 13 points and Courtney Roach added 12 points.  As a team, the Bears shot just 34% (23-67) from the field including just 22% (4-18) from beyond the arc.   Kentucky Wesleyan did not fare much better.  KWC connected on 23 of 63 attempts from the field for 36.5% and just 3 of 13 from the 3-point line for 23%.   

 
December 19 @ Brescia

Shawnee State was defeated by Brescia University  in overtime 77-65 on Friday evening.  Mandy Goin led the Bears with 16 points and 9 rebounds.  Cassie Hackworth and Heather Schilling each added 14 points.  Nikki Tucker scored 10 points in the contest. Kristie Ballard led Georgetown with a game high 23 points.  Jennifer Flener added 17 points and grabbed 13 boards for the Bearcats.As a team, Shawnee State shot 34% (21-61) from the field, compared to Brescia's 40.9% (27-66).  From three point land, the Bears connected on 6 of 26 attempts, with Brescia hitting 6 of 21.  The Bearcats led the battle of the boards 49-43.

 
December 9 vs. Georgetown

Shawnee State, ranked 3rd in NAIA Division II, knocked off NAIA Division 1 number 14, Georgetown College by a score of 72-65.  Mandy Goin led the Bears with 19 points and 19 rebounds.  She was 7 of 14 from the field and 5 of 6 from the free throw line.  The 19 rebounds is a new career-high.  Cassie Hackworth added 17 points and 8 rebounds.  SSU’s second leading scorer, Heather Schilling, scored just 2 points in the contest.  Rachel Vincent led Georgetown with 18 points and 6 boards.  Neely Thomas added 14 points for the Tigers.  As a team, Shawnee State shot a season low 39% (25-64) from the field.  However, the Bears held Georgetown to just 31.5% (23-73) from the field.  Each team struggled from beyond the arc.  SSU hit on 2 of 12 attempts for 16.7%, while Georgetown connected on 5 of 32 3-point shots.  Shawnee State’s won the battle of the boards 53-38. 

 
December 6 vs. Walsh

The Shawnee State University Women’s Basketball Team, ranked 4th in NAIA Division II, rolled over 25th ranked Walsh University 86-64.  Four players scored in double figures for the Bears.  Mandy Goin led the way with 18 points and 8 rebounds.  Cassie Hackworth had 17 points and 9 boards.  Shannon Thomas came off the bench with 16 points.  Heather Schilling chipped in with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Ashley Norman led Walsh with 17 points and 10 boards.  Emily Mongillo had 14 points and Kerri Tolvay added 12 points. SSU shot 49% (32-65) from the field including 43% (6-14) from beyond the arc.  The Bears won the rebounding battle 44-36.  Shawnee State shot 16 of 22 from the free throw line compared to just 11 of 15 for Walsh. 

 
December 3 @ Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State, ranked 4th in NAIA Division II, won its American Mideast Conference opener against Ohio Dominican University by a score of 76-54.  Cassie Hackworth and Mandy Goin led SSU with 21 points apiece on the night.  Hackworth added 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 block.  Goin had 9 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal.  Nikki Tucker chipped in with 8 points and 6 assists.  Amanda Lewis led Ohio Dominican with 17 points.  Becky Richter added 10 points and 9 rebounds.  As a team, the Bears shot 43.9% (29-66) from the field.  SSU out rebounded ODU 45-35.  SSU recorded assists on 19 of their 29 made field goals in the game.

 
November 25 @ Pikeville

Shawnee State, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, defeated Pikeville College 80-57.  Cassie Hackworth led the Bears with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals.  Mandy Goin added 13 points and 7 rebounds.  Nikki Tucker chipped in with 11 points.  Heather Dillon led Pikeville with 13 points.  Ramanda Music and Amelia Cody had 12 points apiece. As a team, the Bears connected on 26 of 61 field goals for 43%.  They hit 6 of 16 three-point field goals for 38%.  SSU made 22 of 26 free throw attempts including a perfect 17 of 17 in the first half.   For the sixth time in seven games, SSU held its opponent to under 40% shooting from the field.  Pikeville connected on just 21 of 68 field goal attempts for just 31%.  SSU dominated the glass 50-38.

 
November 22 @ Trevecca Nazarene

Shawnee State defeated Trevecca Nazarene 73-62.  Heather Schilling led the Bears with 24 points and 7 rebounds on the day.  Mandy Goin added 20 points and 5 rebounds.   As a team, the Bears shot 50% (29-58) from the field, including 37% (7-19) from beyond the 3-point line.  SSU held Trevecca to 41% (22-54) shooting from the field.  It was the first time this season that an opponent shot more than 40% against the Bears.   Lindsey Fly led Trevecca with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Leslie Golden added 10 points and 3 rebounds.

 
November 21 vs. Georgetown (@ Trevecca Nazarene)

Shawnee State defeated Georgetown College 72-64.  Nikki Tucker and Cassie Hackworth led the Bears with 21 points apiece.  Tucker came into the game with only 10 points on the season.  She was 7 of 10 from the field including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc.  Hackworth was 7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 6 from the free throw line.  Georgetown held SSU’s leading scorer, Heather Schilling, to just 4 points on the night.  She entered the game averaging 24.8 on the season.  She did contribute with 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.  Neely Thomas and Rachel Vincent had 17 points apiece for Georgetown.  The Tigers out rebounded SSU 40-32.  Shawnee State shot 45% (25-56) from the field including 47% (8-17) from beyond the 3-point line.  Georgetown shot just 37% (22-59) from the field.   SSU has not allowed an opponent to shoot over 40% on the season.

 
November 15 vs. St. Vincent

Shawnee State University, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, defeated St. Vincent College 86-54.  Mandy Goin had 16 points on 6 of 7 shooting on the night.  She also hauled in 8 rebounds.  Shannon Thomas had 16 points for the Bears as well.  Heather Schilling had 15 points and Cassie Hackworth added 11 points. Kristen Lancas led St. Vincent with 14 points and 6 boards.  Sarah Rockwell added 10 points and 7 rebounds. As a team, the Bears shot 49% (32-66) from the field including 38% (6-16) from behind the arc.  SSU held St. Vincent to 32% shooting on the day.  The Bears out rebounded the Bearcats 50-38. 

 
November 14 vs. Seton Hill

Shawnee State University, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, defeated Seton Hill University 79-56 in Game 2 of the SSU Wendy’s.  Heather Schilling led the Bears with 28 points on 12 of 18 shooting.  She added 1 assist, 1 block, and 4 steals in 30 minutes of action.  Freshman guard Deanna Jones had a career-high 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Cassie Hackworth had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Shannon Thomas added 10 points on the night. Elena Redenkovik led the Griffons with 18 points.  Denisha Salter added 14 points and 9 rebounds for Seton Hill. Shawnee State shot 42% from the field compared to just 35% for Seton Hill.  SSU forced 19 Seton Hill turnovers.  Shawnee State dished out 19 assists on 28 made field goals while committing just 14 turnovers. 

 
November 8 vs. Bethel (@ Lambuth)

Shawnee State University, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, rolled over 20th ranked Bethel (TN) College 110-69. Four Bears scored in double figures in the game.  Heather Schilling exploded for 37 points on 11 of 15 shooting, including 6 of 7 from behind the arc.  She was 9 of 12 from the free throw line.  Cassie Hackworth had 24 points for the second consecutive game.  Tara Walker added 11 points and 7 rebounds.  Shannon Thomas had 10 points.   SSU shot 54% from the field compared to just 36% for Lambuth.  The Bears forced a whopping 47 turnovers in the contest.  SSU out rebounded Bethel 38-30.

 
November 7 @ Lambuth

The Shawnee State University Women’s Basketball Team, ranked 10th in NAIA Division II, opened the 2003-2004 season with an 84-51 win at Lambuth University.  Cassie Hackworth, a junior transfer from Marshall, led the Bears with 24 points on 10 of 16 shooting on the night.  Heather Schilling chipped in with 19 points.  Shawnee State shot 56% from the field while holding Lambuth to 28% shooting.  Each team committed 31 turnovers.
