The Wildcats stormed out of the locker room on a 23-4
run to take the lead with 12:22 to play.

Conference Qualifying Tournament. Ohio Dominican jumped
out early and held an 18-8 lead at 13:02 in the first half.
SSU cut the lead to six, but trailed 45-29 at the
break.
SSU closed to within eight points at 58-50 with 10:48
to play, but could get no closer than ten the rest of the way.
Mandy Goin was the only Bear to reach double figures.
She had 29 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Becky Richter led ODU with 28 points.
Amanda Lewis and Nicole Stone had 17 points apiece for
the Panthers.
Brandy Caldwell chipped in with 13 points.
Shawnee State shot 52.7% (29-55) from the field.

State, ranked 13th in NAIA Division II, overcame a
38-30 halftime deficit to defeat Roberts Wesleyan College
75-64 and advance to the AMC Tournament Finals. Shawnee
State fell behind early in the first half.
The Bears trailed 29-16 at the 6:31 before closing to
within 38-30 at the break.
SSU started the second half on a 14-1 run to go up
44-39.
Roberts Wesleyan fought back and reclaimed the lead at
49-48 on a 3-pointer by Leah Frazier.
Tara Walker answered on the next possession to
give SSU the lead for good. Mandy Goin led SSU with 27
points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks.
Cassie Hackworth had 12 points and Shannon Thomas
chipped in with 11 points for the Bears. Jennifer

The
Shawnee State University Women’s Basketball Team, ranked 10th
in NAIA Division II, fell short in a comeback bid against 3rd
ranked Cedarville University on Saturday evening.
Cedarville won the regular season finale 72-68.
Cedarville
held a 32-23 halftime lead, but SSU opened the second period
with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 32 at the 18:08 mark.
The Yellow Jackets then went on a run of their own.
Over the next 7 minutes, Cedarville outscored SSU 23-7
to take a 55-39 lead. SSU
would cut the lead down to 2 points on three separate
occasions, but could never take the lead.
Mandy
Goin led SSU with 18 points and 8 rebounds.
Cassie Hackworth and Heather Schilling added 11 points
apiece. Kari
Flunker led Cedarville with 28 points.

University falling 85-80.
The win is Cedarville’s fourth in the last five games
against SSU.

The Bears went on a 16-5 run to take 26-25 lead, their
only lead of the game, with 7:44 remaining in the 1st
half.
Cedarville closed out the remainder of the half on a
22-10 run to take a 47-36 halftime lead.
Shawnee State would close to within 2 points four times
in the second half, the final time with just 1:27 remaining,

victory over Shawnee State University.
Tiffin knocked off SSU 74-61 to rain on SSU’s
homecoming festivities.

The Bears shot just 7 of 16 from the free throw line.
Tiffin was the first team to shoot over 50% against the Bears
this season.

in NAIA Division II, snapped a two-game conference losing streak
with a 93-69 thumping of Mt. Vernon Nazarene. Four
players scored in double figures for the Bears.
Mandy Goin led all scorers with 18 points.
She also had 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Cassie Hackworth chipped in with 17 points.
Heather Schilling and Shannon Thomas added 14 points apiece.
Schilling added 5 steals, 2 blocks, and 1 assist.
Susan
Adams led Mt. Vernon with 16 points.
Katie Keller added 15 points.

For
the first time since the 1995-96 season, Shawnee State has
lost consecutive conference games.
SSU, ranked 2nd in NAIA Division II, lost to
Urbana University by a score of 74-58.
This was Urbana’s first win over SSU since the
1998-99 conference tournament.
SSU went
on to win the National Title that season. Urbana used a
pair of 8-0 runs in the first half to take 38-32 lead into the
locker room. After
SSU fought back to a 49-49 tie, Urbana outscored the Bears
25-8 over the final 12:31 of the ball game. Heather
Schilling led the Bears with 19 points and 7 rebounds.
She was 7 of 17 from the field including 4 of 12 from
beyond the arc. Mandy
Goin was the only other Bear in double figures with 14 points.
Nicole Baptiste led Urban with 19 points.
Missy Miller had 15 points and Brittany Runner added 12

Dominican University by a score of 86-78. Ohio
Dominican pulled of the upset despite getting just 17 minutes out of
leading scorer Becky Richter.
She entered the game as the AMC’s 2nd leading
scorer at 20.4 points per game, but scored just 6 points and grabbed
5 boards before fouling out with 14:47 remaining and the scored tied
at 49.
ODU promptly went on a 12-2 run over the next 3 ½ minutes
and never looked back.

The Bears, however, would go on a 15-2 run to close out the
game and deny Rio coach, Dave Smalley, his first ever win in
Portsmouth. Mandy

She added 2 blocks and a steal to become Shawnee State’s
first recipient of the Dick Hyland Player of the Game Award.

Heather Schilling led the Bears with 24 points and 7
rebounds on the day. Mandy
Goin added 20 points and 5 rebounds.
As a team, the Bears shot 50% (29-58) from the field,
including 37% (7-19) from beyond the 3-point line.
SSU held Trevecca to 41% (22-54) shooting from the
field. It was the
first time this season that an opponent shot more than 40%
against the Bears.
Lindsey Fly led Trevecca with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Tucker and Cassie Hackworth led the Bears with 21 points apiece.
Tucker came into the game with only 10 points on the season.
She was 7 of 10 from the field including 5 of 8 from beyond
the arc. Hackworth was
7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 6 from the free throw line.
Georgetown held SSU’s leading scorer, Heather Schilling, to
just 4 points on the night. She
entered the game averaging 24.8 on the season.
She did contribute with 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Neely Thomas and Rachel Vincent had 17 points apiece for
Georgetown. The Tigers out rebounded SSU 40-32.
Shawnee State shot 45% (25-56) from the field including 47%
(8-17) from beyond the 3-point line.
Georgetown shot just 37% (22-59) from the field.
SSU has not allowed an opponent to shoot over 40% on the

Heather Schilling had 15 points and Cassie Hackworth added 11
points. Kristen Lancas led St. Vincent with 14 points

Rockwell added 10 points and 7 rebounds. As
a team, the Bears shot 49% (32-66) from the field including 38%
(6-16) from behind the arc. SSU
held St. Vincent to 32% shooting on the day.
The Bears out rebounded the Bearcats 50-38.

defeated Seton Hill University 79-56 in Game 2 of the SSU Wendy’s.
Heather
Schilling led the Bears with 28 points on 12 of 18 shooting.
She added 1 assist, 1 block, and 4 steals in 30 minutes of
action.
Freshman guard Deanna Jones had a career-high 13 points and 6
rebounds.
Cassie Hackworth had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Shannon Thomas added 10 points on the night. Elena
Redenkovik led the Griffons with 18 points.
Denisha Salter added 14 points and 9 rebounds for Seton Hill. Shawnee
State shot 42% from the field compared to just 35% for Seton Hill.
SSU forced 19 Seton Hill turnovers.
Shawnee State dished out 19 assists on 28 made field goals
while committing just 14 turnovers.

in NAIA Division II, opened the 2003-2004 season with an 84-51
win at Lambuth University. Cassie Hackworth, a junior transfer from Marshall, led the Bears with
24 points on 10 of 16 shooting on the night.
Heather Schilling chipped in with 19 points.
Shawnee State shot 56% from the field while holding
Lambuth to 28% shooting.
