Alexander High School's Jami Turrill has announced
that she will transfer from the University of Charleston to
continue her volleyball career at Shawnee State University.
She is the second member of the Bears' 2008 recruiting class.
Turrill was an All-Ohio selection three times while
at Alexander. She also earned all-conference and all-district
honors four times and was named Conference and District Player of
the Year twice. Turrill also lettered four times in basketball
and twice in track. In basketball she earned Honorable Mention
All-Ohio honors. In track she was s state qualifier in the 800
meter dash.
"We are extremely excited to have Jami as a part
of our volleyball program," said Coach Kamer. "Jami had a nice
freshman season at the University of Charleston. Jami knows
the game and is willing to do what it takes to improve her game.
She is always working at the things to take her game to a higher
level. Jami will be a great asset to our program as she can
play either middle or outside." |

Janine Grey from Riverside Poly High School in
California has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at
Shawnee State. Grey is the first member of the Bears' 2008
recruiting class. Janine earned two letters
in volleyball while at Riverside Poly and was an Scholar Athlete.
"Janine has been working hard this past winter and
spring to improve her game for the next level," said Coach Kamer.
"She is a hard worker and is willing to do what it takes to improve
her game. When she came to visit she fit right in with the
ladies. We are looking forward to have Janine on campus with
us full time." |

Three Shawnee State volleyball players have earned
All-American Mideast Conference recognition for their efforts on the
court this season.
Becca Day
earned 2nd team honors and
Heather
Koehler received honorable mention.
Haley Halcomb
was named to the All-Freshman team and honorable mention
all-conference.
Day, a junior middle hitter from Piketon, OH,
averaged 3.28 kills and .61 blocks per game. She tallied 336
digs and 42 service aces. Koehler, a freshman middle hitter
from Russelville, OH, averaged a team-leading 3.38 kills per game.
Halcomb, a setter from Frankfort, OH, set a school record with 1146
assists. She added 355 digs, 92 kills, and 26 service aces.
The trio helped lead Shawnee State to its first
winning season since 2003. All three are expected to return to
a squad which graduates just 2 players. |
