December 2 vs. College of Idaho (NAIA National
Tournament Pool Play) |

The Shawnee State volleyball was eliminated from the
NAIA National Tournament as they fell to the College of Idaho in
three sets in the final day of pool play.
Shawnee State came out strong
with intensity in the match but it was not enough as they fell to
the Yotes of the College of Idaho.
The first set saw seven ties and
four lead changes. The College of Idaho tied the game at 13-13
and scored four unanswered points that the Bears could not recover
from as they went on to fall 25-21 in set one.
The Bears led most of the second
set as senior Koehler led the Bears at the net tallying six kills in
the set. Shawnee State had their biggest lead of four at 14-10.
After exchanging points the College of Idaho knotted the set at
17-17. A service error by the Yotes gave the Bears the 18-17
advantage but a kill by the College of Idaho tied the game at 18-18
and gave the Yotes the momentum. Savy net play gave the College of
Idaho the 21-18 lead before the Bears scored again. The two teams
exchanged points but the Bears couldn't get within two as they fell
25-22 in the second set.
In the third set the Bears got
out to an early 10-5, but the Yotes went on a 6-0 run to regain the
lead. Both teams battled back-and-forth, but the College of Idaho
pulled away late to take the third set and the match 25-21.
Senior Jami Turrill led the
Bears in her final game with 16 kills. She also added 10 digs
in the match. Senior Heather Koehler added 12 kills in her
final match along with four digs. In their final games for
Shawnee State, senior Haley Halcomb set up 38 assists and Tiffany
Dailey had 12 digs. [Box

December 1 vs. Talyor (NAIA National
Tournament Pool Play) |

The Shawnee State volleyball struggled offensively as they fell in
three sets to Taylor University on the second day of pool action at
the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
Taylor came out strong against the Bears and never allowed the
Bears to lead in the first set as Taylor would win 25-17. Shawnee
State came out in the second set and managed a 10-7 lead before the
Trojans went on a 5-1 run and would go on to win 25-14. The Bears
came out strong in set three and looked like they change the
momentum. However, Taylor slammed down four kills and a block to
regain the lead. Shawnee State battled back to manage three ties
but it was not enough as Taylor went on to win 25-17 and take the
match.
Offensively the Bears struggled at the net as they accumulated a
.082 hitting percentage. Senior Jami Turrill led the Bears with 13
kills while senior Heather Koehler had eight kills. Sophomore Kim
Rosen added six kills for the Bears. Senior Haley Halcomb had 27
assists in the game. Defensively, senior Tiffany Dailey led Shawnee
State with 17 kills, while Turrill added nine digs.

November 30 vs. Fresno Pacific (NAIA National

The Shawnee State volleyball
team played a strong second set against the three-time defending
National Champions Fresno Pacific, but fell in three sets, 25-13,
25-19, 25-10 in the first game of pool play at the NAIA National
Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Sunbirds front line was
too much for the Bears. The 6-2 and 6-1 combo of Martina Gregusova
and Keke Wang combined for 28 kills. The Bears offense only tallied
23 kills in the game.
The Bears did see a bright
spot in set two as the Bears went point for point with the Sunbirds,
until Fresco Pacific make a break from the Bears late in the set.
Senior Heather Koehler led
the Bears with seven kills, while Jami Turrill added six. Senior
Haley Halcomb set up 17 assists and senior Tiffany Dailey added 11
digs.

November 20 vs. Indiana East (NAIA Tournament
Opening Round at Shawnee State) |

The Shawnee State volleyball team slaughtered Indiana East in the
Opening Round of the NAIA National Tournament at home in front of a
crowd of over 300 fans on Saturday afternoon. Shawnee State
improves to 35-9 on the season while Indiana East finishes their
season 39-4.
Shawnee State dominated the match from the beginning. Indiana East
held a 19-15 lead in the first set but after a SSU timeout the
Bears pulled within one at 19-18. Indiana East got the side out to
extend their lead to 20-18, but the answered back and behind the
serving of senior Jami Turrill the Bears went on a 6-0 run to take
set one 25-20.
The
Bears never trailed in set two and pulled away early behind freshman
Kirsti Yates. Yates put the dagger in the Red Wolves as she served
10 straight points for Bears including four service aces in a row to
give the Bears the 14-3 lead. Indiana East never regrouped as they
Bears went on to win 25-17.
The
two teams battled back and forth early in set three however the
Bears rallied behind Yates' serves again to go on a six point run to
extend their lead to 13-7. Shawnee State never allowed the Red
Wolves to get within four points and they went on to take the match
25-18.
The
Bears had a stellar day at the net. Shawnee State tallied 40 kills
in the match, compared to Indiana East's 30 and out blocked the Red
Wolves 7-3 in the game. Seniors Jami Turrill and Heather Koehler
led the Bears with 13 and 12 kills. Sophomore Kim Rosen added five
kills, while Shaye Berry added four. Sophomore Alex Pohl led the
Bears with a game-high four block assists, while Turrill added three
block assists. Berry and Rosen each had two blocks in the game for
the Bears.
Shawnee State's defense along with their blockers held Indiana
East's leading attacker Brianna Strete to just seven kills in the
game. Strete, which is ranked third in the NAIA with a hitting
percentage of .422, managed only a hitting percentage of .176
against the Bears.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 33 assists in the game to go along with
three kills and six digs. Senior Tiffany Dailey led the Bears with
11 digs, while Yates added six more for the Bears. [Box

Shawnee State moves on to play to the NAIA National Tournament final
site in Sioux City, Iowa. The tournament will be held from November
30 through December 4. |

November 9 vs. Georgetown (Mid-South Tournament
Championship) |
In their inaugural season in the Mid-South, Shawnee
State swept Georgetown College in the MSC Championship Game to hand
the Tigers their first ever loss in the existence of the Mid-South
Tournament. With the Tournament Title, the Bears earn the
conference's automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
Shawnee State took control early in the match.
The front row trio of seniors Heather Koehler and Jami Turrill along
with sophomore Kim Rosen combined for 15 kills in set one to set the
tone for the match. Shawnee State took the lead early, but
Georgetown managed to stay within reach knotting the game at 15-15.
Turrill then slammed down a kill and the Bears went on to extend
their lead 19-15. After a few rallies, Koehler added a kill
and Rosen hit back-to-back kills to expand the Bears lead 23-17.
Georgetown answered with a kill, but a service error by the Tigers
put the Bears at match point. Freshman Sam Veach then trickled
a serve off of the net that landed in front of Georgetown's front
row, giving her an ace and the Bears the 25-18 win for set one.
After a 4-4 tie in the second set the Bears went
on a run to extend their lead 7-4. Georgetown then went on a
run of their own, giving the Tigers the 14-9 advantage. The
Bears battled back to tie the game at 16-16 and the two teams
continued to battle back-and-forth exchanging points.
Georgetown finally regained the lead at 23-22, but Koehler answered
with a kill to knot the set. A Georgetown error gave the Bears
their first set point, but Georgetown again tied the game sending a
ball long for the kill. Sophomore Alex Pohl slammed down a
kill to again give the Bears set point and a net violation by the
Tigers gave the Bears the 26-24 set win.
In the third set Shawnee State took advantage of a
very flustered Georgetown team as the Bears never trailed in the
set. The Bears lead by as much as nine at 16-7.
Georgetown couldn't manage to get back into the match as they would
fall 25-15 giving the Bears their first MSC Tournament Championship.
The Bears dominated the play at the net as the
Bears accumulated 44 kills in the match, compared to the Tigers 32.
Koehler and Turrill both finished with double figure kills.
Koehler tallied 17 kills with only two errors in the match, while
Turrill added 11 kills. Turrill also had 17 digs in the match.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 38 assists in the
match to go along with 16 digs. The Bears' tenacious defense,
which was also to credit for the Tigers lack of kills, was led by
senior Tiffany Dailey who tallied 24 digs in the match.
Freshman Kirsti Yates added 14 digs for the Bears.

The NAIA will announce the national tournament
field on November 14. Opening Round is schedule for November
20. Winners of the Opening Round will join the remainder of
the field at the final site in Sioux City, Iowa. The final
site tournament will take place November 30 through December 3.

November 8 vs. Campbellsville (Mid-South
Tournament Semi-finals) |

The Shawnee State volleyball team got
their revenge Monday evening as they defeated Campbellsville
University in three sets to advance to the Mid-South Championship
Game. Campbellsville handed the Bears their only conference loss
early this season.
Shawnee State came out sluggish at the net and
trailed most of the first set. After trailing 15-12, senior Jami
Turrill slammed a kill down on the ten foot line, which seemed to
turn the set around. Campbellsville answered on the next play with
a kill. However, Turrill with teammates sophomore Kim Rosen and
senior Heather Koehler, the Bears offense was too much for Tigers as
the Bears tied the game 17-17. A net violation by Campbellsville
gave the Bears their first lead of the set, but a kill error by the
Bears knotted the game 18-18. A kill by Rosen and an error by
Campbellsville stretched the Bears lead to 21-18. A double block by
Rosen along with fellow sophomore Alex Pohl put the dagger into the
Tigers as Shawnee State would go onto take set one 25-20.
The Bears again began the second set off slow. The
Bear s battled back to tie the game 11-11. The two teams exchanged
points, before freshman Kirsti Yates’ service ace gave the Bears the
lead. Two kill errors by the Tigers followed by senior Haley
Halcomb’s overpowering play at the net against Campbellsville's
front line gave the Bears the momentum. The Bears strong net play,
along with two kills apiece from Koehler and Turrill finished the
match, giving the Bears the 25-19 win.
Set three was a back-and-forth battle, which saw 12
ties and six lead changes. Shawnee State finally managed to break
free of the Tigers behind the serving of Turrill and the savy net
play of the Bears. A double block by Rosen and Koehler gave the
Bears the 21-17 advantage. A kill error by the Tigers, followed by
a service ace by Turrill put the Bears up 23-17. Tigers attempted
to make a run with back to back kills to cut the lead to 23-19,
however a kill by Koehler put the Bears at set point and the Tigers
finished the game sailing a ball wide left to allow the Bears to
take set three 25-19 and the three game sweep.
Turrill finished the game leading all players with 18
kills, while Koehler added 10. Turrill also had 18 digs in the
match. Halcomb set up 34 assists to go along with 13 digs. Senior
Tiffany Dailey led Shawnee State with 24 digs, while Yates added 10

Tournament Quarterfinals) |

The Shawnee State
volleyball team swept Lindsey Wilson in three sets on Monday morning
to advance to the Semi-finals of the Mid-South Tournament. The
Bears will play the winner of the Campbellsville/Virginia-Wise
tonight at 6:00 p.m. The Bears
defeated Lindsey Wilson by scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-22.
Senior and Mid-South Player of the Year Jami Turrill led the Bears'
with a double-double slamming down 15 kills, committing only one
error at the net to go along with 15 digs. Senior Heather
Koehler was the only other Bear with double-figure kills as she
total 13 in the game.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 35 assists and added
16 digs in the game. Senior Tiffany Dailey led the Bears'

November 6 vs. Malone |

The Shawnee State
volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking loss on their Senior Day
against Malone. Malone swept the Bears in three sets with scores of
26-24, 25-14, and 25-22. Shawnee State competes their regular season
games with a record of 31-9 overall, while Malone improves to 30-7
for the year.
The Bears struggled to
build an offensive attack on the court Saturday morning. Senior Jami
Turrill and sophomore Alex Pohl led the team with 10 kills each.
Senior Heather Koehler added another nine kills. Seniors Tiffany
Dailey and Turrill also tallied 11 digs each in the match.

The Shawnee
State volleyball team defeated Cedarville University
in three sets of a non-conference match Friday night. Scores of the
sets were 25-23, 25-23, 25-21. The Bears move on to 31-8 for the
year and Cedarville falls to 14-17.
Senior Heather Koehler led
the team with 16 kills in the match and senior Jami Turrill added
nine kills. Sophomore Kim Rosen also tallied up six kills.
Seniors Tiffany Dailey and
Haley Halcomb led the defensive attack and created scoring
opportunities for the Bears. Dailey had 18 digs, while Halcomb
accumulated 16 of her own. Halcomb also set up 37 assist in the
game. Turrill also contributed two blocks.

The Shawnee State volleyball team swept a tri-match
at home against the University of Rio Grande and Mount Vernon
Nazarene University. The Bears improve to 30-8 on the season
and 12-1 in the Mid-South Conference. The
Bears opened up the tri-match with a three-game sweep over
conference rival Rio Grande. The Bears won by scores of 25-17,
25-21, 25-17.
Shawnee State had a great performance at the net,
accumulated 47 kills in the match, with only four errors.
Senior Jami Turrill was the only Bear with double-figure kills.
She tallied 17 kills in the game with only one error in 28 attempts.
She also had eight digs and four blocks in the game. Senior
Heather Koehler added nine kills with only one error in 19 attempts.
Senior Haley Halcomb had a stellar all-around
performance, setting up 31 assists to go along with 10 digs and
seven kills out of 10 attempts. Senior Tiffany Dailey led the

Shawnee State finished the tri-match with a
four-set win over Mount Vernon. The Bears took control early,
taking a two set lead. However, Mount Vernon did not give up
and fought the Bears in a back-and-forth battle in the third and
fourth sets. In the third set, Mount Vernon had a 23-18 lead,
but the Bears battled to knot the game at 24-24. Mount Vernon
had three attempts to take the set, but each time the Bears offense
answered to tie the game. However, the Cougars would finally
take the set 27-25. The fourth set, like the third, was a
back-and-forth war. The Cougars led most of the set, but the
Bears kept within reach and finally took the lead 15-13. The
two teams exchanged points, knotting the set 10 different occasions.
Shawnee State had the advantage 24-23, but Mount Vernon answered
with a kill to tie the game for the tenth time. The Bears answered
with a side out of their own and a kill by Koehler sealed the 26-24
win in set four and the match.
Koehler finished the match with 24 kills,
committing only one error. Turrill added 17 kills, while Rosen
contributed 13 in the match. Turrill added 17 digs in the
game. Pohl also had a solid game for the Bears, tallying a
career-high 12 digs to go along with nine kills and four blocks.
Halcomb tallied 63 assists and 28 digs (both
career-highs) in the match. Halcomb, who broke her own season
assist record last weekend, now stands with 1522 assists on the
season. Dailey added 17 digs and two service aces for the

The Shawnee State Women's Volleyball team swept
Virginia Wise in a conference match Saturday afternoon, after three
set, 25-16, 25-16, and 25-15. Shawnee improves to 27-8 on the season
and 11-1 in the Mid-South Conference. Virginia Wise falls to 8-19
and 4-7 in the Mid-South Conference. Senior
Jami Turrill led the Bears with 13 kills and only one error. She
also had nine digs and added one block in the game. Senior Heather
Koehler had 11 digs with no errors. She also had seven digs in the
match. Sophomore Kim Rosen contributed 10 kills and only one error.
Sophomore Alex Pohl added an addition two blocks in the game and
also had five kills.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 41 assists and had 14
digs, while senior Tiffany Dailey recorded eight digs. [Box

Next, Shawnee defeated Montreat after a grueling
five sets, 25-22, 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 15-6. The Bears improve their
record to 28-8 overall for the season. Montreat drops to 21-9 for
their season.
Koehler led the Bears with 17 kills, 11 digs, and
two blocks in the match. Turrill followed with 16 kill and 14 digs.
Rosen added another 10 kills and two blocks, while Pohl contributed
four blocks in the game.
Halcomb set up an astounding 54 assists and helped
dig up 17 digs. Dailey tallied up 23 digs, while freshman Kristi

Senior Jami Turrill had a near perfect game at the
net as she smashed 14 kills out of 18 attempts, committing no
errors. She also accumulated five digs and three blocks in the
game. Sophomore Alex Pohl added seven kills in 11 attempts,
committing only one error, while senior Heather Koehler and
sophomore Kim Rosen added five kills apiece. Pohl added four
blocks in the match.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 39 assists to go with
six digs, while senior Tiffany Dailey added six digs.
The Bears only committed seven kill errors in the

October 15 & 16 @ St. Francis Invitational |

The Shawnee State volleyball team went 2-2 at the St.
Francis Invitational in Yorktown, Indiana over the weekend.
The Bears go to 24-8 on the season. Shawnee
State lost a pair of games on Friday, falling to NAIA No. 12 ranked
Indiana Tech in five sets and then to Indiana-East in four sets.
On Saturday, Shawnee State swept host St. Francis and
Indiana-Southeast in three sets.
Senior Haley Halcomb entered the weekend with
4,838 career assists and tallied her 5,000 career assist in the
Bears' win over Indiana-Southeast.
Shawnee State lost a close one to Indiana Tech,
falling by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 17-25, 15-11. Senior
Heather Koehler led three Bears in double figure kills.
Koehler amassed 25 kills out of 45 attempts, committing only three
errors in the match. Senior Jami Turrill had 16 kills, while
sophomore Kim Rosen added 11.
Halcomb generated the Bears offense tallying 57
assists in the match to go along with 21 digs. Senior Tiffany
Dailey led the defense with 31 digs, while Turrill added 21.
Freshmen Kirsti Yates and Carly Mazza contributed 14 and 10 digs in
the match respectively. Sophomore Alex Pohl tied her
career-high as she tallied eight blocks in the loss. [Box

After the five set battle with Indiana Tech, the
Bears ran out of steam falling to Indiana-East by scores of 25-17,
29-27, 22-25, 25-13.
Koehler and Turrill were the only Bears with
double-figure kills. Koehler had 15 in the match and Turrill
added 11. Turrill also added 18 digs and four solo blocks.
Halcomb set up 43 assists in the match. She
also added 18 digs and two block assists. Dailey led the
defense with 21 digs, while Mazza and Yates added 13 and 12 digs in

Bears opened the day with a three-game sweep over host St. Francis,
winning by scores 25-18, 25-22, 25-12.

has registered 16 digs and two block assists. Dailey and Yates

October 13 @ Georgetown |

After winning the first two sets (25-20, 25-15) the
Bears fell in the third set (25-16), but rebounded in a close set
four (25-23) to defeat the last year's NAIA National Runner-up and
conference leader Georgetown College. The win for the Bears
gives them a two and half game lead over Rio Grande in the Mid-South
East Division. The Georgetown loss knocks them out of lead in
the West Division and half a game behind Campbellsville.
Campbellsville handed the Bears their only conference this season.
The Bears offense were led by seniors Heather Koehler
and Jami Turrill. The two combined for 39 of the Bears' 57 kills on
the night. Koehler had 20 kills with three errors on 34
attempts, while Turrill added 19 kills with four errors in 38
attempts. Sophomores Kim Rosen and Alex Pohl contributed
seven and six kills for the Bears.
Senior Tiffany Dailey led the Bears' defense with
a game-high 26 digs. Turrill added 19 digs, while freshman
Kirsti Yates added 13.

The Shawnee State volleyball team swept a tri-match
against Pikeville College and Indiana Southeast on Saturday.
The Bears improve to 21-6 overall and 7-1 in the Mid-South.
Shawnee State handled conference opponent
Pikeville easily, sweeping them in three sets by scores of 25-10,
25-10, 25-14. The Bears had a nearly spotless match at the
net, committing only four errors out of 50 attempts. Seven
Bears got into the kills column. Senior Jami Turrill led the
Bears with 15 kills out of 22 attempts. Turrill added 11 digs
in the game. Senior Heather Koehler had 14 kills out of 20
attempts to go along with four digs and four block assists for the
Bears. Sophomore Kim Rosen contributed nine kills in 14
attempts, committing no errors adding two service aces.
Sophomore Alex Pohl added six kills for the Bears. Pohl also
had five blocks in the match.

game. She also had seven digs, two service aces and one kill.

In the Bears final match of the day; they swept
Indiana University Southeast in three sets. The Bears took
control of set one early as freshman Kirsti Yates served up eight
straight points to give the Bears the 12-4 lead. Shawnee State
didn't let up as they went on to take set one 25-16. In set
two, the Grenadiers took a 15-10 lead. The two teams exchanged
points back-and-forth, Indiana Southeast still managing a 19-15
lead. However, the Bears battled back behind Turrill who
scored seven consecutive points, taking a 22-19 lead. The
Grenadiers couldn't fight back into the match, losing set two 25-20.
Set three was a back-and-forth battle, with 10 tie scores before
Turrill served up eight points to give the Bears the 25-17 win and
sweep over the Grenadiers.
Koehler led the Bears with 13 kills in the match,
committing only one error in 25 attempts. Turrill added 10
kills, while Pohl and Rosen added seven and six respectively.
Turrill added 15 digs in the game. Rosen, Pohl, Turrill and
Koehler each had two blocks for the Bears.
Halcomb set up 37 assists in the match and had a
team-high 17 digs. Dailey added 16 digs, while Yates
contributed 12 digs in the match.

heartbreaker to Campbellsville University in five sets in their
first conference loss of the season. Shawnee State falls to
19-6 overall and 6-1 in the Mid-South.
After falling in the first two sets by scores of
25-14 and 26-24, the Bears battled back to take sets three and four

Senior Jami Turrill led three Bears in double
figures kills as she amassed 17 on the night. She also added
five digs, two blocks and two service aces in the match.
Senior Heather Koehler had 15 kills with only one error in 35
attempts to go along with six digs and four blocks. Sophomore
Kim Rosen added 11 kills with two errors in 24 attempts.
Rosen also had four blocks for the Bears.

with 10 digs, three kills and a service ace.
Senior Tiffany Dailey led the Bears' defense with

The Shawnee State volleyball team dominated St.
Catharine, sweeping the Patriots in three sets, to remain undefeated
in conference action. The Bears improve overall to 19-5 on the
season.
St. Catharine took a 10-9 lead early in the first
set, but senior Haley Halcomb rallied off five straight serves to
give the Bears the 15-10 lead, and the Bears never looked back after
that, going on to win the set 25-14. In set two, the Bears
took charge early and never let in, as they won set two 25-9.
In the final set the two teams volleyball back and forth and then
SSU made a run as senior Jami Turrill served 12 consecutive points,
giving the Bears the 21-8 lead. The Bears won the set 25-13 to
take the sweep over the Patriots.
All 12 players saw action for Shawnee State.
Senior Heather Koehler led the Bears with 10 kills, no errors in 19
attempts. Turrill added eight kills and sophomore Kim Rosen
contributed seven kills in the match. Sophomore Alex Pohl had
11 blocks in the match. Halcomb set up 38 assists in the game

The Shawnee State volleyball team crushed Lindsey
Wilson College, sweeping the Blue Raiders in three sets by scores of
25-10, 25-8, 25-16. Shawnee State improves to 18-5 on the
season and 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference.
The Bears dominated the net, only accumulated four errors on the
night. Nine Bears tallied kills in the game. The
balanced attack was led by Senior Jami Turrill who slammed down nine
kills, committing no errors in 16 attempts. She also had six
digs, two service aces, and two solo blocks. Senior Heather
Koehler, added to her career kills records, tallying eight kills in
19 attempts with no errors. Koehler also contributed six digs,
two solo blocks, and a service ace. Sophomore Alex Pohl also
had a spotless night at the net, accumulated seven kills in 12
attempts. She also had six blocks in the match.

The Shawnee State volleyball team defeated their
rival the University of Rio Grande in four sets Tuesday evening to
remain undefeated in conference play. The Bears improve to
17-5 on the season. The RedStorm fall to 6-9 overall and 4-1
in the Mid-South Conference. After falling
in the first match 26-24, the Bears rebounded to win three straight
sets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-23. Senior Jami Turrill,
who leads the Mid-South with 4.1 kills per game, had a big night as
she accumulated 23 kills, 18 digs, and one block in the match.
Turrill also ranks 8th in the NAIA in total kills on the season.
Senior Heather Koehler was the only other Bear in double-figure
kills. Koehler who broke SSU's all-time career kills record,
previously held by All-American Becca Day with 1, 483, in SSU's game
versus University of Virginia - Wise on Saturday, she added 12 more
against Rio Grande and now stands at 1,498 for her career.
Koehler also added six digs and three blocks in the match for the
Bears. Sophomore Kim Rosen contributed nine kills and three
blocks in the Bears' victory.
Senior Tiffany Dailey had a stellar evening on
defense as she dug up 25 digs in the match. She also received
24 serve receives, tallying only had one error on the night.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 50 assists in the win
to go along with 16 digs and three kills. Halcomb leads the
MSC and is 5th in the NAIA in assists per game with 11.3. [Box

The Shawnee State volleyball team was able defeat the
University of Virginia-Wise easily Saturday morning in three sets
(25-11, 25-14, 25-9). The Bears improve their record to 16-5 overall
and 3-0 in the Mid-South Conference. The University of Virginia-Wise
falls to 7-10 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-South.
The Bears were constantly on the attack with 44 kills
and only seven errors in 78 attempts. Senior Jami Turrill lead the
way with 13 kills with only one error in 18 attempts. Sophomores
Alex Pohl and Kim Rosen both contributed kills; Pohl with nine and
Rosen with eight.
Senior Haley Halcomb set up 31 assists, while
freshman Liz Miller had seven assists of her own. Pohl also
contributed seven blocks to help the Bears out of defense.
With an easy victory for the Bears, all of
the Shawnee State players were able to enjoy this win. Each player
saw playing time and contributed to make the game a true display of

The Shawnee State Bears had little trouble as they defeated old
conference rival Cedarville University on Tuesday evening. The
Bears improve to 15-5 on the season.
Shawnee State defeated
the Yellow Jackets in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.
The Bears had a stellar night at the net as they record 41 kills,
committing only five errors as well as tallying 10 blocks on the
evening.
Senior Heather Koehler
led the Bears offense with 15 kills (one errors) on 22 attempts.
She also have seven digs on the night. Senior Jami Turrill
contributed 11 kills and 10 digs in the match. Sophomore Kim Rosen

Invitational at Cumberland University over the weekend to take home
the Invitational Title.

Shawnee State opened the
Invitational on Friday with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-13 win over Martin
Methodist. Senior Jami Turrill and sophomore Kim Rosen led the
Bears at the net with 10 kills apiece. Turrill also led the
Bears with 10 digs to along with two assists and one service ace in
the match. Senior Heather Koehler added nine kills and six
digs. Senior Haley Halcomb set up 30 assists to go with eight

The No. 19 ranked Shawnee State volleyball team
went 3-1 at the Taylor Invitational over the weekend. The
Bears improve their record to 7-2 on the season.
Shawnee State opened up
the tournament knocking off No. 10 ranked host Taylor in a
back-and-forth battle. The Bears won set one 25-20, but the
Trojans answered with a 25-21 win in set two. Shawnee State
won set three 25-19 and Taylor evened the match with a 25-16 win,
sending the match into a fifth set where the Bears won 15-9, handing
Taylor their first loss of the season.
Senior Jami Turrill led
the team with her consecutive double-double of the season, as she
slammed down 21 kills with 14 digs. Senior Heather Koehler had
20 kills in the match, while sophomore Kim Rosen added 14 kills.

Taylor, Shawnee State ran out of steam losing in five sets to Spring
Arbor. The Bears' jumped out to a 2-0 lead by winning the
first two sets 25-19 and 25-15. However, Spring Arbor won the
next two by scores of 25-22 and 25-21 forcing a set five where
Spring Arbor won 15-12.
Koehler led the Bears with
17 kills. Turrill and Rosen added 14 and 13 kills,
respectively. Halcomb had 47 assists, 13 digs, and three aces
in the match. Dailey led the Bears with 16 digs and freshman

The Shawnee State volleyball team
swept Capital in three match in non-conference action on Wednesday
evening. The Bears improve their overall record to 4-1.
In set one, Shawnee State
jumped out to an early 15-6 lead. The two teams then exchanged
points back and forth, before Shawnee State closed the door on the
Crusaders taking set one 25-19. The Crusaders kept set two
close. After a 9-9 tie, Shawnee State took control to go onto
win the set 25-18. Shawnee State built a 16-11 lead in the
third set only to watch it drizzle away. Capital fought back
taking an 18-17 lead. The lead volleyed back and forth and
knotted at 21-21. Freshman Kirsti Yates then served up two
points for the Bears, giving them the 23-21 advantage. Capital
sided out making the score 23-22, but Shawnee State answered for
game point and then put it away with a kill by senior Jami Turrill.
Turrill had a stellar game
as she tallied a double-double, slamming down a career-high 27 kills

today as they swept Lindsey Wilson in three games by scores of
25-22, 25-15, 25-12. Seven Bears got into the kill column as
senior Jami Turrill led all Bears with 14 kills, while committing
only one error. She also had nine digs and three blocks in the
match. Senior Heather Koehler slammed down six kills in the
match and sophomores Alex Pohl and Kim Rosen each had five blocks
apiece for the Bears. Senior Tiffany Dailey led the defense
with 11 digs and Senior Haley Halcomb set up 28 assists in the win.

No. 19 ranked Shawnee State didn't look like it was missing
a beat from last year's National Qualifying Team showing
poise and a balanced attack as the Bears swept through
competition on the first day of the SSU Invitational.

dominated Mid-South opponent West Virginia Tech in their
first match of the Invitational by scores of 25-13, 25-8,
25-9. Senior Jami Turrill led the Bears offense with
16 kills with only one error in the match. She also
added nine digs and four blocks. Junior Shaye Berry
added 10 kills, with only one error. Sophomores Alex
Pohl and Kim Rosen added eight kills. Pohl added four
