With the return of eight of last year’s essential players and
the addition of two key transfers, the Shawnee State Volleyball
team looks to improve their 16-14 record in the upcoming season.
“This season should show much more improvement than last year,”
said third year coach Kristy Kamer. “Last year’s team showed
great strides and while only losing two seniors we have the bulk
of our team back.”
The Bears welcome back two senior leaders this season: middle
hitter Becca Day (Beaver, OH), who earned 2nd Team
All-AMC recognition, and outside hitter Samantha Emler (Howard,
OH). Other returnees include juniors Kendra Massie
(Wheelersburg, OH) and Anicca Miller (Arcanum, OH), and
sophomores Tiffany Dailey (Chillicothe, OH), Chelsea Howard
(Beaver, OH), Heather Koehler (Russellville, OH) and Haley
Halcomb (Frankfort, OH). Halcomb was named to the All-Freshman
team and received honorable mention all-conference along with
Koehler.
Additions to the Bears include two outside hitters Jami Turrill
(Albany, OH), a sophomore transferring from the University of
Charleston, and Megan Wills (Lancaster, OH), a junior
transferring from the University of Rio Grande. Also new to the
team is freshman Janine Grey (Riverside, CA).
“The ladies have been working extremely hard to improve. They
have high expectations of themselves as a team and look for
their hard work to pay off in the upcoming season,” commented
Kamer.
