The Shawnee State Volleyball team returns eight players and 3 starters from last year’s 13-21 squad.  Along with three freshmen who join the team, first year coach Kristy Kamer is looking to make things happens this year.

“We lost four players from last season, but no on is looking at that as a down fall,” said Coach Kamer.  “We still have very good talent on this team.”

Leading the Bears this year are senior outside hitters Carly Cameron (Orient, OH) and Elizabeth Eby (Eaton, OH).  Other returning upperclassmen include Adair Piguet (Sciotoville, OH), Sarah Patee (Gahanna, OH), and Jaclynn McClellan (Seaman, OH).  Piguet, a defensive specialist, will be looked at a lot this year in backrow.  Patee and McClellan have worked hard in the off season and should contribute to the team.

The Bears will also look to sophomore middle hitter Becca Day (Beaver, OH) to step up and be a key contributor this season.  Day earned Honorable Mention All-AMC last season and was named to the AMC All-Freshmen Team.  Sophomore outside hitter Samantha Emler (Howard, OH) has improved her overall game since last season and should get plenty of playing time.  Rounding out the returnees is sophomore middle hitter Jessica Kevelder.  Kevelder, who battled injuries last season, is getting back to her game and should be able to contribute for the Bears.

Additions to the Bears for the 2006 season include freshmen outside hitters Anicca Miller (Pitsburg, OH) and Sarah Barney (Portsmouth, OH).  Freshman setter Kendra Massie will also step in this season and contribute to the team.

Shawnee State opens their season at home versus Asbury College on September 4.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in the James A. Rhodes Center.
