November 10 vs. Mt. Vernon Nazarene (@ AMC Tournament)
In their first ever AMC Tournament appearance Shawnee State lost to Mt. Vernon Nazarene 4-15, 8-15, 4-15.  Melissa Holland led the Bears with 13 kills and 5 blocks.  Kristen Jones added 7 kills and 4 blocks.  Tabby King and Gretchen Bennington dished out 14 and 13 assists respectively.
 

October 31 @ Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State lost their regular season finale 1-15, 16-14, 8-15, 13-15.  Shawnee State was led by Aimee Gaines with 8 kills and 18 digs.  Jennifer Cornelius and Melissa Holland each had 8 kills as well, while Jeanne Brabson and Kristen Jones recorded 7 kills apiece.  Gretchen Bennington tallied 21 assists.

 

October 28 vs. Asbury

Shawnee State defeated Asbury College 15-6, 16-14, 15-1.  Aimee Gaines and Kristen Jones had 11 kills each.  Melissa Holland added 8 kills and 4 blocks.

 

October 28 vs. College of West Virginia

The Bears defeated CWV 15-4, 15-2, 15-11.  Melissa Holland led the SSU with 12 kills, 5 digs, and 4 blocks.  Jennifer Cornelius added 12 kills, while Gretchen Bennington dished out 13 assists.  

 

October 27 vs. Notre Dame

Shawnee State defeated Notre Dame College 15-3, 15-12, 12-5, 15-8.  Aimee Gaines led the Bears with 14 kills and 6 digs on the day.  Melissa Holland added 11 kills and 6 blocks while Jennifer Cornelius had 10 blocks.  Gretchen Bennington had 22 assists and Tabby King tallied 19 assists.

 

October 26 vs. Tiffin

Shawnee State defeated Tiffin University in a grueling 5-game match 9-15, 15-10, 15-10, 9-15, 16-14.  The Bears were led by senior Aimee Gaineswith 22 kills, junior Melissa Holland who had 16 kills and 12 blocks, and freshman Kristen Jones with 12 kills and 10 blocks. Coach Rader commented, "This was a huge win. We talked before the game about how important the match was if SSU was to make the conference tournament. I am really proud of the way we battled at the end. I think we proved that we deserve to be in the tournament."

 

October 24 vs. Cedarville

Shawnee State defeated by Cedarville University 12-15, 12-15, 7-15.The Bears were led by sophomore Jennifer Cornelius with 8 kills, junior Melissa Holland had 5 kills and 5 blocks; sophomore Elizabeth Quatman also had 5 kills, 5 blocks, and 3 aces. Senior Gretchen Bennington had 15 assists and freshman Tabby King had 13 assists.

 

October 18 vs. Wilmington

Shawnee State defeated Wilmington College 15-6, 15-1, 11-15, 15-7.  Jennifer Cornelius and Aimee Gaines had 9 kills apiece while Melissa Holland added 12 blocks.  Gretchen Bennington dished out 19 assists while Tabby King added 13 assists.  As a team the Bears hit for a .444 attack percentage.

 

October 17 @ Pikeville

Shawnee State defeated Pikeville College 15-6, 15-8, 15-8, in what Coach Steve Rader called a "very ugly match."  Aimee Gaines led the team with 9 kills on the night.  Jennifer Cornelius added 8 kills, while Melissa Holland bolstered the defense with 9 solo blocks.  Gretchen Bennington had 17 assists for the match.

 

October 16 vs. Kentucky Christian

Shawnee State defeated Kentucky Christian College 15-2, 15-6, 15-6.  Jennifer Cornelius led the Bears with 11 kills.  Aimee Gaines added 10 kills while Melissa Holland had 6 kills and 5 blocks.  Tabby King dished out 18 assists.

 

October 14 vs. Geneva 

Shawnee State defeated Geneva College 15-11, 15-11, 15-13 to even their AMC record at 5-5 on Saturday.  Up 2 games to none, the Bears made things interesting as they fell behind 12-2 in the third game.  SSU scored 12 straight points behind the serve of Kristen Jones to take the lead.  Melissa Holland had 18 kills and 13 blocks in the match.  Gretchen Bennington and Tabby King had 21 and 20 assists respectively.

 

October 13 vs. Point Park

Shawnee State defeated Point Park College 15-4, 15-10, 15-5.  As a team, the Bears hit for a .595 attack percentage in the victory.  Melissa Holland had 13 kills and 6 blocks on the night.  Kristen Jones and Jennifer Cornelius added 10 kills apiece.  Gretchen Bennington tallied 22 assists while Tabby King added 21.

 

October 10 vs. Urbana

Shawnee State held substantial leads in each of the 3 games in this match, but they were unable to hold on to any as they were defeated by Urbana University 14-16, 13-15, 9-15.  Melissa Holland had 13 kills and 8 blocks in the match.  Aimee Gaines had 20 digs while Kristen Jones added 9 blocks.  Gretchen Bennington and Tabby King had 15 and 14 assists respectively.

 

October 7 vs. Tusculum (@ Concord)

The Bears ended a 13 match road trip as they were defeated by Tusculum College 1-15, 15-12, 2-15, 13-15.  Melissa Holland had 14 kills, while Aimee Gaines notched 13 kills and 18 digs.  Tabby King had 21 assists.

 

October 7 vs. Concord (@ Concord)

Shawnee State qualified for the semi-finals of the Concord Invitational as they defeated the host school 15-12, 15-11, 15-4.  Melissa Holland had 14 kills in 16 attempts without an error.  Her .875 hitting percentage is tied for second all time in the NAIA.  Kristen Jones had 11 blocks in the match while Tabby King dished out 17 assists.

 

October 7 vs. Salem-Teikyo (@ Concord)

Shawnee State defeated Salem-Teikyo 15-5, 15-6, 15-12 to open day two of the Concord Invitational.  Aimee Gaines led the Bears with 14 kills and 13 digs.  Gretchen Bennington had 14 assists.

 

October 6 vs. West Liberty (@ Concord)

Shawnee State fell to West Liberty in their second match at the Concord Invitational 14-16, 10-15, 15-10, 14-16.  Aimee Gaines and Melissa Holland had 12 kills apiece.  Gaines added 18 digs while Holland had 8 blocks.  Tabby King and Gretchen Bennington had 20 and 18 assists respectively.

 

October 6 vs. Ohio Valley (@ Concord)

The Bears defeated Ohio Valley College in the opening game of the Concord Invitational Tournament 15-0, 15-9, 15-2.  Kristen Jones led the Bears with 8 kills and 7 digs.  Gretchen Bennington tallied 15 assists.

 

October 5 @ Midway

For the second time this season the Bears lost to Midway College (12-15, 15-6, 13-15, 7-15) in a four-game match.  Melissa Holland led the way offensively with 18 kills.  She also recorded 7 solo blocks and 7 digs.  Elizabeth Quatman had 8 blocks while Jeanne Brabson had a career-high 15 digs.  Tabby King dished out 16 assits. 

 

October 3 @ Ohio Valley 

Shawnee State defeated Ohio Valley College 15-1, 15-12, 15-6 in a non-conference match-up.  Melissa Holland had 5 kills and 10 service aces.  Aimee Gaines had 6 kills in the match.

 

September 30 @ Seton Hill

Shawnee State tied a school record for conference wins in a season as they defeated Seton Hill College 15-12, 15-7, 15-12.  Aimee Gaines led the Bears with 10 kills and 15 digs.  Kristen Jones had 7 blocks while Gretchen Bennington dished out 14 assists.

 

September 29 @ St. Vincent

Shawnee State fell to St. Vincent College 12-15, 11-15, 15-4, 14-16.  Gretchen Bennington tallied 19 assists in the defeat.  Aimee Gaines had 15 kills and 18 digs.  Melissa Holland set a school record with 11 blocks on the night.

 

September 26 @ Rio Grande

Shawnee State defeated Rio Grande on Tuesday in a 5-game thriller 15-9, 13-15, 15-8, 4-15, 16-14.  The victory was the first for the Bears over Rio since 1992.  Melissa Holland set an SSU record with 28 kills in the match.  She added 24 digs as well as 7 total blocks.  Aimee Gaines had 15 kills, Jeanne Brabson 14 kills, and Jennifer Cornelius tallied 12 kills.  Gretchen Bennington and Tabby King dished out 36 and 27 kills respectively.

 

September 23 @ Walsh

Shawnee State's offensive woes continued as Walsh University defeated the Bears 15-10, 15-9, 15-6.  The Bears hit for a paltry .195 attack percentage.  This was just the third match all season they had been held below .200.  Melissa Holland led SSU with 10 kills.

 

September 22 @ Malone

Shawnee State struggled offensively as they fell to Malone College 15-11, 15-6, 15-10.  The Bears were limited to 18 kills for the entire match as they struggled to a season low .145 attack percentage.  Melissa Holland led the team with 6 kills.  Good defense kept the Bears in the match as they tallied a season high 23 blocks on the night.  Kristen Jones led the team with a career high 7 7 total blocks.

 

September 16 @ Kentucky Christian

Shawnee State equaled all of last year's win total (8) as the Bears defeated Kentucky Christian College 15-8, 15-11, 15-6.  Aimee Gaines led the Bears with 20 kills.  Kristen Jones had a career-high 12 digs; while Gretchen Bennington served up 13 assists in the match. 

 

September 14 vs. Central State

Shawnee State picked up its first conference when in a 15-13, 15-6, 15-6 victory over Central State.  Aimee Gaines led the Bears with 14 kills and 2 solo blocks on the night.  Tabby King had 6 assists and Elizabeth Quatman pitched in a career high 6 assists.

 

September 12 @ Wilmington

SSU rebounded in the night cap to defeat Wilmington College 13-15, 5-15, 15-4, 15-11, 16-14.  Jennifer Cornelius led the Bears as she tallied 12 kills.  Melissa Holland added 11 kills.  Gretchen Bennington had a career-high 22 assists.

 

September 12 vs. Lincoln Memorial (@ Wilmington)

Shawnee State dropped a 4-game (5-15, 4-15, 15-10, 12-15) decision to NCAA D. II Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday evening.  Jennifer Cornelius had a career-high 14 kills, and Gretchen Bennington had 18 assists.  Melissa Holland and Aimee Gaines each had 15 digs.

 

September 9 vs. Ursuline (@Mt. Vernon)

Shawnee State snapped a 2-match losing skid on Saturday as they defeated Ursuline College 15-5, 15-7, 15-9.  Shawnee State overcame a 9-3 deficit in game 3 to put the match away.  Melissa Holland and Aimee Gaines had 9 kills apiece in the match, while Tabby King and Gretchen Bennington each recorded 9 assists.

 

September 9 @ Mt. Vernon Nazarene College

SSU opened up conference play with a 4-game loss (9-15, 6-15, 16-14, 3-15)  to national power Mount Vernon Nazarene.   Melissa Holland had 10 kills in the match.  Tabby King had 14 assists. 

 

September 8 @ Denison

Shawnee State's 4-match winning streak came to an end on Friday as the Bears lost to Denison 11-15, 11-15, 10-15.  With starting outside hitter, Jeanne Brabson, out of the line up due to injury, SSU was out of sync for most of the match.  Melissa Holland continued to be strong offensively as she tallied 12 kills.  Aimee Gaines added 10 kills and Jennifer Cornelius added 9.  Gretchen Bennington dished out 15 assists in the match while Tabby King had 14.

  

September 5 vs. Pikeville College

SSU continued its winning streak with a 3-game (15-11, 15-4, 15-4) win over Pikeville College.  Melissa Holland led the Bears with 14 kills while Aimee Gaines and Jeanne Brabson added 10 and 9 kills respectively.  Setter Gretchen Bennington tallied 20 assists and Tabby King added 15.

 

September 3 @ Miami-Middletown (@ Thunderhawk Classic)

Shawnee State made it three in a row as they defeated Miami-Middletown 15-4, 13-15, 15-7, 15-7 in the final match of the Tunderhawk Classic.  Melissa Holland led the Bears with 17 kills, and Aimee Gaines added 14.  Both were named to the All-Classic Team.

 

September 3 vs. Taylor-Ft. Wayne (@ Thunderhawk Classic)

Shawnee State defeated Taylor-Ft. Wayne 15-3, 15-10, 15-3 in second round action of the Thunderhawk Classic on Saturday.  Senior setter, Gretchen Bennington tallied 16 assists, while freshman Tabby King added 13.  Melissa Holland notched 10 kills to lead the Bears' attack.

 

September 2 vs. Cumberland College (@ Thunderhawk Classic)

The Bears captured their first win of the season as they defeated Cumberland College 15-5, 15-5, 15-10 in the opening round of the Thunderhawk Classic.  Aimee Gaines led SSU with 13 kills on the night.  Tabby King dished out 17 assists.

  

August 30 vs. Midway College

Midway College defeated Shawnee State University in the Bears' season opener 10-15, 15-13, 15-17, 10-15.  The Bears were led in defeat by Aimee Gaines and Jennifer Cornelius with 11 kills apiece.  Gretchen Bennington tallied 16 assists.
