VOLLEYBALL HOSTING GOLF SCRAMBLE TO RAISE MONEY
The Shawnee State volleyball team will be hosting a golf scramble on Saturday, July 18th at the Elks Country Club.  The scramble is open to four-man teams and costs $60. per person, which includes green fees, golf cart, and refreshments.  Prizes will be handed out also.  Those interested can contact Head Coach Kristy Kamer at 351-3633 or kkamer@shawnee.edu.   
 
BEARS RAISE MONEY FOR SUSAN G. KOMEN FOUNDATION
During the Shawnee State Classic, the Bears raised over $2,400.00 for the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Foundation.  Shawnee State was one of 228 volleyball programs that took part this fall and raised $236,890.42 for the foundation.  The Shawnee State Volleyball Team would like to thank all the teams that took part and everyone that help make this a success.          
 
DAY EARNS HONORABLE MENTION ALL-AMERICAN
Becca Day has added another honor to her resume as she was named honorable mention All-American.  Day, a senior from Beaver, Ohio, was already named to 1st Team in the American Mideast Conference and to the AVCA All-Region Team, but has become the first ever Shawnee State Volleyball player to receive the All-American status.     
 
 

FOUR BEARS EARN ALL-AMERICAN MIDEAST CONFERENCE RECOGNITION
Four members of the Shawnee State University Volleyball Team earned All-American Mideast Conference recognition for the 2008 season.

Becca Day earned 1st Team All-AMC honors.  Day, a 5-10 senior middle-hitter from Beaver, Ohio led the team in kills with 430 on the season and in service aces with 62 and was second with 86 blocks.  She also has tallied 415 digs and 10 assists on the season.  Becca is Shawnee State's all-time career kill leader with 1,467 kills and all-time career digs leader with 1,228 digs.  She currently ranks 12th in NAIA in hitting percentage at 38.3%. 

Haley Halcomb was named to 2nd Team All-AMC.  Halcomb, a 5-7 sophomore setter from Frankfort, Ohio tallied 1183 assists on the year which breaks Shawnee State record for assists in a season.  She has also tallied 67 kills, 35 aces, 374 digs, and 40 blocks on the season.  Haley also became Shawnee State's all-time assist leader with 2,329 assists in her career.  She currently ranks 15 in the NAIA in assists with 10.2 assists per game. 

Tiffany Dailey and Jami Turrill each was earned 3rd Team All-AMC recognition.  Dailey, a 5-5 sophomore defensive specialist from Chillicothe, Ohio leads the team with 923 digs on the season and holds Shawnee State's record for digs in a season.  She also broke SSU's record for digs in a game as she posted 50 digs in the Bears 1-3 lose to Walsh on October 4.  She also has recorded 38 service aces, 17 kills, and 7 assists on the season.  Tiffany currently ranks 2nd in the NAIA in digs with 6.7 digs per game. 

Turrill, a 5-10 middle-hitter from Albany, Ohio leads the team with 94 blocks and is second in kills with 339 on the season.  She has also accumulated 406 digs, 32 service aces, and 7 assists on the season.  She currently ranks 15th in the NAIA in hitting percentage at 35.8%. 

Shawnee State holds a 38-2 record going into the NAIA National Tournament.  Shawnee State won the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship and received its first ever bid to the NAIA National Tournament.  

 

BEARS PLAY LEWIS-CLARK STATE IN FIRST ROUND
The Shawnee State Volleyball Team will travel to Lewiston, Idaho to play host Lewis-Clark on November 22 in the first round of the NAIA National Championship Tournament.  Game time for November 22 has not been set. 

This is the Bears first appearance in school history to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.  Lewis-Clark State earned a bid to the National Tournament after winning the Frontier Conference.  This is their 9th trip to the NAIA National Championship and hold a 171-8 record in the tournament.   

 

SHAWNEE STATE TO HOST CONFERENCE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
The Shawnee State University will host the American Mideast Conference Volleyball Tournament on Friday, November 14 and Saturday, November 15.  Shawnee State finished the regular season conference runner-up and will get the #1 seed in the tournament.  SSU will host the six team tournament and the tournament winner will earn the AMC's second automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship.

The tournament will begin Friday, November 14.  Game 1 will feature #4 Cedarville against #5 Northwestern Ohio at 1:00 p.m. Game 2 on Friday will feature #3 Mount Vernon and #6 Malone. 

Saturday's game schedule is semifinal at 9:00 a.m. featuring winner of Cedarville/Northwestern Ohio playing #1 Shawnee State.  In the second semifinal game the winner of the Mount Vernon/Malone winner playing #2 Ohio Dominican.  The semifinal winner will meet in the championship match at 6:30.     

 
TURRILL NAMED AMC PLAYER OF WEEK

Jami Turrill is the AMC Player of the Week in women's volleyball after sparking the undefeated Bears to six more wins during September 8-14.

Turrill, a 5-10 sophomore from Albany, Ohio, averaged 2.61 kills and 3.72 digs as SSU swept all six matches in three sets.  In 18 sets played, she buried 47 kills with only five errors in 86 attempts for a .488 attack percentage.  Turrill registered 67 digs, 10 blocks, and nine service aces.
