November 6 @ University of the Cumberlands (Mid-South Tournament)
The Shawnee State men's soccer team fell 6-0 to the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday afternoon to end the 2010 season.  The Bears finish the season with an overall record of 8-10. 

The University of the Cumberlands' Renan Serafim scored his first goal in the fourth minute of the game and scored two more to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead at the break.  Renan scored again 24 seconds in to the second half and the Patriot's Imnam Bains and Kevin Murphy each tallied a goal of their own to tally the 6-0 win over the Bears and move on in the Mid-South Tournament.

Shawnee State offense managed only three shots on goal in the game. 

Junior Kevin Fischer tallied seven saves in the game, while freshman Jordan Duncan tallied one save. [Box Score]

 
November 1 vs. Cincinnati Christian
The Shawnee State men’s soccer team defeated Cincinnati Christian, 4-1, Monday afternoon. The Bears improved their record to 8-9 overall for the season. Cincinnati Christian falls to 5-8-1 for the year.

Sophomore Chad Johnston started Shawnee State off right with a goal in the first minute assisted by freshman Kyle Brooks.  Shawnee State struggled to gain the upper-hand in the first half, but an unassisted goal by Brooks shifted momentum in the Bears favor.  Scoring the Bears' third goal was sophomore Michael Meadows. Meadow’s goal was assisted by freshman Yves Nzwanga.  After an Eagle foul in the goal box, freshman Branden Ruth scored the fourth and final goal for Shawnee on a penalty kick.

Juniors Kevin Fischer had eight saves in the match and only allowed one goal in 90 minutes of play.  [Box Score]

 
October 30 vs. Cumberlands
Unable to find the net for a fifth straight game, the Shawnee State Men's Soccer team suffered a 10-0 loss Saturday to a very physical University of Cumberlands. The loss brings Shawnee to 7-9 overall for the season and 3-5 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands improves to 15-4 overall and 6-3 in the Mid-South Conference.

The University of Cumberlands took an early lead in the match with their first goal in the opening minute. The Bears struggled to keep up allowing five goals in the first half and five goals in the second half. Cumberlands outnumbered Shawnee in shots 39-7 and 16-4 shots on goal. Thomas Mihalezo of the University of Cumberlands had both a hat-trick and an assist in the match.

Sophomore Ryan Hooper allowed six goals and had five save in the match, while freshman Johannes Krickl allowed four goals with one save.

The two teams combined for a total number of 31 fouls and four yellow cards were handed out. [Box Score]

 
October 25 vs. Malone
After battling back-and-forth for 89 minutes the Bears fell short as Malone found the back of the net for the game's only goal with 13.8 seconds remaining in regulation.   Malone's Kobort Koffa scored just above the hand of SSU's goalie Kevin Fischer to give the Pioneers the non-conference win.  Shawnee State falls to 7-8 overall, while Malone improve to 6-11.

In a predominately rough game which tallied 27 fouls between the two teams, neither team could get much offense started.  The Pioneers out shot the Bears 7-3 in shots on goal.   

Fischer finished the game with six saves for the Bears.  Felipe Monteiro got the win for the Pioneers as he recorded two saves in the game. [Box Score]

 
October 23 vs. Campbellsville
The Shawnee State men's soccer team battled a tough Campbellsville team Saturday at Shawnee Turf, falling just short by a score of 1-0.  The loss drops the Bears to the .500 mark at 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the MSC.  With the win, Campbellsville improves their record to 13-3 overall and 5-3 in MSC. 

It was a physical game from the outset and continued throughout the entire match.  Both teams combined for 30 fouls and two yellow cards over the course of the defensive dominated match.  The Bears had a few chances in the first half as Yves Nzwanga (FR, Columbus, OH.) got two shots off  early but neither found the back of the net.  Then Campbellsville went on the attack.  Throughout the game, the Tigers pushed the envelope as they moved upfield, leading to 10 offsides calls and numerous missed scoring opportunities.  Goalie Kevin Fischer (JR, Athens, OH) added a couple of great acrobatic saves to a great overall defensive effort that kept the Bears even at the half 0-0.

The second half saw the game's only goal which was tallied by Campbellsville's Jaime Allen on an assist by Gustavo Valecillos.  Allen broke free on a long pass and was able to sneak a shot by Fischer's outstretched arms and into the bottom right corner of the net.  The Bears continued to fight their way back but the Campbellsville defense thwarted many of the runs put forth by Shawnee State.  On the game, each goal tender tallied seven saves, while the Tigers out shot the Bears 27-14. 

 
October 19 @ West Virginia Tech
The Shawnee State men's soccer team lost a conference game 3-0 on the road to West Virginia Tech on Tuesday afternoon.  The Bears fall to 7-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference action. 

The Bears gave up an early goal and fell behind 2-0 at the break. West Virginia Tech added another goal in the second to give them the 3-0 win. 

The Bears were out shot 13-2 in shots on goal. 

"I thought we pretty well after giving up an early goal in the 4th minute," said Head Coach Ron Goodson.  "We had some good possession but couldn't get our offense going.  We had a good opportunity to score on a counter attack after Tech's miss penalty kick, but couldn't capitalize, which could have been a real momentum changer for us.  Now we have to get ready for a big game on Saturday against Campbellsville and hopefully we can get our offense back on track."

Junior Kevin Fischer started in goal for the Bears, giving up two goals and tallying two saves.  Sophomore Ryan Hooper tallied nine saves, giving up one goal.

October 16 vs. Urbana
The Shawnee State men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss on Saturday against Urbana University. The loss moves Shawnee to 7-5 for the year, while Urbana improves their record to 6-7-1.

The Bears were shutout by Urbana’s Stuart Brown’s four goals. Ryan Kleman added the fifth and final goal. Shawnee was only able to create four shots on goal and 14 shots total.

Sophomore Ryan Hooper tallied three saves and allowed four goals, while freshman Jordan Duncan allowed the fifth. [Box Score]

Shawnee will travel to West Virginia Tech for their next conference match on Tuesday, October 19th. The match will start at 2:00 p.m.

 
October 6 @ Pikeville
The Shawnee State men's soccer team improves to 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-South with a 1-0 win at Pikeville on Wednesday night.

The Bears controlled the game from the start to finish, out shooting Pikeville 32-3 in the game and 14-0 with shots on goal.  "We possessed the ball real well and created many scoring opportunities, but was not able to capitalize," said Head Coach Ron Goodson.

"It was Pikeville's senior night and being a 9:00 p.m. start was different for our team, but I thought we played very well." 

Senior Luke Purpero scored the games only goal in the 52nd minutes of play off of a free kick from 20 yards out.  The goal tallies Purpero's tenth of the season and fourth game winning goal.

October 2 vs. Lindsey Wilson
The Shawnee State men’s soccer team lost Saturday afternoon to NAIA ranked No. 11 Lindsey Wilson in a conference match-up. Failing to score after 90 minutes of play, the Bears suffered a 7-0 defeat. This loss moves the Bears to 6-4 on the season and 2-2 in the Mid-South Conference, and put Lindsey Wilson ahead to 9-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the Mid-South.

Lindsey Wilson dominated possession time leaving the Bears at a loss. Shawnee only managed two shots on goal, while Lindsey Wilson had 14. Goalkeepers Kevin Fischer and Ryan Hooper both shared an equal amount of time in goal and each was kept busy. Fischer saved four goals, but allowed four, and Hooper save three goals, but allowed three.  [Box Score]

 
September 29 @ Marshall
The Bears played a tough game against NCAA Division I opponent Marshall University on Wednesday, but the Bears were unable to score a goal en route to a 3-0 loss.  Shawnee State falls to 6-3 on the season.

The Bears kept the game close allowing only one goal in the first half.  Marshall's Mat Butler scored in the 34th minute of the game on assists by Peter Bulat and Anthony Virgara. 

Marshall struck again in the 55th minute of play as Kyle Sniatecki scored.  Marshall rounded out their scoring in the 84th minute as Sniatecki found Jordan Hilgefort to give the Herd the 3-0 victory. 

Junior Kevin Fischer was tagged with the loss as he allowed three goals and had 13 saves in the game. [Box Score]

 
September 24 vs. St. Catharine
The Shawnee State men's soccer team shut out conference foe St. Catharine 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.  The Bears improve to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in the Mid-South. 

Junior Luke Purpero got the Bears on the board as he scored his ninth goal of the season on assists from sophomore Michael Meadows and junior Josh Hartman in the 20th minute of action.  Purpero then found sophomore Chad Johnston for his fifth goal of the season in the 30th minute of play to give the Bears the 2-0 advantage at the break. 

In the second half, Johnston found Meadows to give Shawnee State the 3-0 victory of the Patriots.  The goal was Meadows' second of the season.

September 24 vs. Johnson Bible College
The Shawnee State men's soccer team had little trouble as the Bears shutout Johnson Bible College 6-0 on Friday evening.  The Bears improve to 5-2 on the season. 

Junior Luke Purpero got the Bears going, as he scored within just six minutes of the game on an assist from sophomore Michael Meadows.  This was Purpero's seventh goal of the season.  Meadows then scored a goal of his own (first of the season) in the 36th minute.  Freshman AJ Cole scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Lenier Crawford in the 40th minute to give the Bears the 3-0 cushion at the break. 

The Bears did not let down in the second half.  Purpero gave the Bears their fourth goal of the game in the 64th minute on a penalty kick.  Six minutes later sophomore Logan Coyer recorded his first goal of the season.  The Bears tallied their final goal of the game on Kyle Brooks' first goal of the season. 

Sophomore Ryan Hooper got the shutout for the Bears as he played 67 minutes in goal tallying one save.  Freshman Duncan Jordan played the final 23 minutes tallying one save.  [Box Score]

 
September 18 @ Georgetown
Shawnee State pulled out a win after a close match against Georgetown College with a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon. Shawnee improves its record to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-South Conference. Georgetown falls to 1-6 for the year and 0-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

The Bears took an early lead with a third minute goal scored by junior Luke Purpero. Purpero found the net again in the eighth minute to give Shawnee an early 2-0 lead. Georgetown answered with an unassisted goal scored by Matt Hess in minute 16. Sophomore Chad Johnston responded for the Bears and added a third goal in the 24th minute. Georgetown's Hess and Wes Jones both scored to finish out the half tying the game up at 3-3. Johnston scored the game winner for Shawnee in the 72nd minute, giving the Bears their first win over the new conference foe.

Johnston had two assist, Purpero with one, and Lenier Crawford added another. Freshman Jordan Duncan had six saves in the first half, while junior Kevin Fischer finished the game with eight saves. [Box Score]

 
September 14 @ Cedarville
The Shawnee State men's soccer team fell to Cedarville University on the road Tuesday evening.  The Bears go to 2-2 on the season.  The Yellow Jackets improve to 4-2 overall.

Shawnee State struck first as junior Luke Purpero scored unassisted in the 10th minute of play.  Purpero's goal, his third of the season, gave the Bears the 1-0 advantage at the half.

The Bears defense held off the Yellow Jackets until the 69th minute of play when James Twinem found Matt Niemiec with a long pass and Niemec scored one-on-one to knot the game at 1-1.  Cedarville's Zack Gatlin scored the game winner in the 72nd minute unassisted. 

The Bears were out shot 15-5 on shots on goal.

Sophomore Ryan Hooper recorded a career-high 14 saves in the loss. [Box Score]

 
September 12 @ Berea
The Shawnee State men's soccer team defeated Berea on the road 3-1 on Sunday to improve their record of 2-1 on the season.

The Bears got on the board first as sophomore Ryan Beatty found junior Luke Purpero for his second goal of the season in the 17th minute of the game.  Berea tied the game at 1-1 as Ryan Forlenberay scored unassisted.  Shawnee State answered in the 77th minute as junior Cody Bond scored on an assist from sophomore Chad Johnston giving the Bears the advantage.  The Bears sealed the win as they scored a minute later on a goal as Johnston found Beatty for his second assist of the game and Beatty's first goal of the season. 

Kevin Fischer got the win for the Bears as he played 85 minutes in goal recording six saves. [Box Score]

 
September 8 vs. Ohio Valley
The Shawnee State men's soccer team opened up home action on Shawnee Turf as they defeated Ohio Valley Christian 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon.  Shawnee State goes to 1-1 on the season, while Ohio Valley falls to 1-1-1. 

Ohio Valley got on the board first as Dalton Pecarski scored in the 41st minutes unassisted to give the Fighting Scots the 1-0 advantage at the half. 

Sophomore Chad Johnston found junior Luke Purpero in the 48th minutes of play to knot the game at 1-1.  Johnston gave the Bears the 2-1 lead as he scored unassisted in the 81st minute.  Ohio Valley tied the game 1:41 later as Danny Fernadez assisted Johnny Ivy.  Johnston found the back of the net again 1:11 seconds later on an assist from Purpero to give Shawnee State the 3-2 win. 

Junior Kevin Fischer picked up the win as he tallied a career-high 17 saves allowing two goals.  Spencer Widlicka got the loss for the Fighting Scots, tallying seven saves. [Box Score]
