Coach Merb began Shawnee State
University's Golf Program in the spring of 1989 and has been the head coach ever since. His coaching career does not entail only golf, however. Merb began coaching in 1965 at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. He was the Assistant Coach for football and basketball and he was the Head Baseball Coach. From 1967 to 1970 Merb was the Head Football and Head Baseball Coach at Defiance College. He then became
an Assistant Football Coach at the University of Toledo in 1971. In 1973 and 1974 Merb was the Head Football Coach for the Portsmouth High School Trojans. He has been
an Assistant Football Coach at Middle Tennessee State University as well as at Bowling Green University. Merb is a six-time Mid-Ohio Conference Coach of the Year for football, baseball, and golf. He resides in
Chesapeake with his wife Connie. He has one son and two daughters.
