6th in AMC Tournament

3 Tournament Championships

May 5 & 6 @ AMC/NAIA Regional Championship

Shawnee State finished 7th out of 14 teams at the NAIA Region IX Championship last week.  SSU finished 6th in the American Mideast Conference Tournament, which is played concurrently with the the Regional Tournament.  Freshman Drew Prater led the Bears with 17th place finish in AMC play.  Shawn Sergent was 21st, Brad Washburn finished 22nd, and Jason Van Deusen finished 26th.  Malone won the event with a 54-hole score of 872.  Tiffin (894) placed second and Ohio Dominican (908) was third.  Shawnee State's three-round total was 946.

 
April 29 & 30 @ Ohio Dominican
Shawnee State finished 2nd of 4 teams at the Ohio Dominican Match Play Invitational Tournament at the Cumberland Trail Golf Club.  The event featured three rounds of 4-ball match play and 1 round of individual match play.  Ohio Dominican won the event with 114 points.  Shawnee State collected 11.5 points and finished ahead of Mt. Vernon Nazarene (101.5 points) and Urbana University (93) points. 
 
April 18 & 19 @ Cedarville Invitational

Shawnee State played to a three-way tie for 2nd place at the Cedarville Invitational.  The Bears shot a two-day total 640 to tie with Ohio Dominican and Cedarville.  Tiffin won the event with a score of 605.  Shawnee State entered the second round of play just 6 strokes out of first place with a first round total of 316.  The wheels fell off on day 2 as the Bears shot 324.  Brad Washburn paced the Bears with a 6th place overall finish.  He shot 76 in round one at Beavercreek Golf Club.  He carded a 78 at the Country Club of the North on day two.  Freshman Drew Prater finished 11th overall as he carded a 157 (79-78) over two days.  Jason VanDeusen (81-81), Shawn Sergent (81-87), and Jeff Evans (89-96) rounded out the scoring for Shawnee State.

  
April 15 & 16 @ Mt. Vernon Invitational

Shawnee State placed 5th out of 10 teams at the Mt. Vernon Nazarene Cougar Golf Classic held at Apple Valley Golf Course.  Shawnee State finished with a team-total 626.  Tiffin University won the event with a score of 605.  Shawn Sergent led the Bears with a two-round total of 155 (78-77).  Brad Washburn, winner of three straight tournaments going into the weekend was just 3 strokes out of the lead after Friday's round of 76.  The wheels fell off, however, as he shot 81 on Saturday for a total of 157.  Jason VanDeusen carded a 158 (78-80).  Drew Prater shot 162 (77-85) and Jeff Evans tallied a 163 (84-79).

 
April 8 & 9 @ Urbana Invitational

Shawnee State captured its 3rd straight tournament win with a victory in the Urbana University Invitational.  Shawnee State placed 1st out of 6 teams with a two-day total score of 614.  Urbana and Mt. Vernon tied for second with scores of 648.  Brad Washburn placed first overall for his third straight tournament title.  He shot 75-70 and placed 3 strokes ahead of teammate Shawn Sergent (76-72).  Jason VanDeusen placed fourth overall with consecutive rounds of 79.  Jeff Evans rounded out the scoring for SSU with a two-day total of 163 (83-80).

 
April 1 @ OU-Chillicothe Invitational
Shawnee State won its second event in two tries with a victory in the OU-Chillicothe Invitational.  SSU placed 1st out of 16 teams with a 321 on the score card.  SSU tied Miami-Hamilton and won the event thanks to 5th man Brian Hunter's score of 89.  Brad Washburn won the overall championship as he carded a 75.  Shawn Sergent (81), Jason VanDeusen (82), and Jeff Evans (83) rounded out the scoring for Shawnee State.
 
March 28 - 29 @ SSU Invitational

For just the fourth time in 13 years, the Shawnee State University Golf Team has won its own invitational tournament.  Shawnee State won the 8-team, 2-day event with a combined total of 608.  SSU finished 6 strokes ahead of runner-up Ohio Dominican and 8 strokes ahead of 3rd place Cedarville University.  Brad Washburn, a Shawnee State senior from Ironton, OH, won the event as he shot even par 144 (72-72).  He is the 3rd Shawnee State player to win the invitational.  This is the 1st tournament win of his career.  Cedarville’s Adam Schlappi placed 2nd with a 146 (75-71).  Raynard Martin of Mt. Vernon Nazarene and Ohio Dominican’s Tyler Smith tied for 3rd place with two-day totals of 148. SSU sophomore Shawn Sergent (78-75) and freshman Brian Hunter (75-78) tied for 9th with two-day scores of 153.  Jason VanDeusen carded a 160 (80-80) and Jeff Evans shot 162 (84-78) to round out the scoring for Shawnee State. Three Shawnee State freshmen entered the event as individuals.  Drew Prater shot 160, Andy Wilkinson carded a 166, and Tom Kempinski had a 179.
