The Shawnee State University Men’s Cross
Country Team has had much success the past 4 seasons, participating
in the NAIA National Championship, and the upcoming 2006 season does
not seem to be any different. “This is the most talented and
experienced team that Shawnee State has ever started a season with
in cross country,” said Coach Eric Putnam. All but one of the men’s
top seven runners are returning from last year’s squad.
Ten runners return from last year’s squad
including senior Larry Gardner (Carrollton, OH) who was a First Team
All-AMC. Also returning are seniors Scott LeMaster (Cable, OH) and
Kris Jones (Johnstown, OH), both competed at the National
Championship Meet last season. Senior Caleb Arnold (Enon, OH), who
received NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition, also returns. Also back
for the Bears, are juniors Jeremiah Morrow (Grove City, OH) and
Corey Snyder (Canton, OH), and sophomores Chris Roush, Cody Smith
and Zach Brink.
Additions to the team include freshmen Tyler
Hickey (Seaman, OH) and Berea transfer Zac Holbert (Chillicothe,
OH).
“The key to this season’s success this year is
for our men to learn to work together,” said Putnam. “We have a
number of men who are very close in times. If they can work
together in workouts and races, we could have a great year.”
The Bears face a challenging
schedule which begins with the Shawnee State Invitational and
includes the Ohio University Bobcat Invitational, Greater Louisville
Invitational, All-Ohio Invitational, AMC and NAIA Region IX
Championships at Tiffin, OH, and the NAIA National Cross
Championships at Louisville, KY. |
