Championship
|
|
Shawnee
State, ranked 25th in the NAIA, placed 18th
at the NAIA National Championship Meet on Saturday morning. SSU
placed 22nd last season in its first ever appearance
at Nationals. Virginia
Intermont, ranked 1st throughout the entire season,
won the 28-team event. Brett
LeMaster paced the Bears finishing 83rd in a time of
26:31. Scott
LeMaster placed 104th in 26:44.
Larry Gardner ran 112th in 26:53.
Dirk Hollar and Blake Jones completed the 8k-course in
26:54. For Jones,
it was his fastest time recorded in his four-year career. “I’m
very proud of all our runners,” said Coach Larry Mangus.
“They all worked extremely hard and really came on
strong at the end of the season.
Both teams are very young and I look forward to getting
back here with both squads next season.”

November 6 @ AMC/NAIA Region IX
Meet
|
|
Shawnee
State,
ranked 24th in the NAIA, placed 2nd out of 14 teams at the
AMC/NAIA Region IX Championship to earn a berth in the NAIA
National Championship. The
Bears placed ahead of 14th ranked Cedarville University and 21st
ranked Lyndon State. Brett LeMaster finished 7th
overall and earned 1st Team All-AMC Honors as he covered the
course in 27:11. Scott LeMaster (27:31) and Larry Gardner
(27:33) placed 12th and 13th and earned 2nd Team All-AMC
Honors. Dirk Hollar and Blake Jones placed 18th and 19th
to round out the scoring for the Bears.

October 23 @ Southeastern Classic
|
|
Shawnee State placed 6th out of 28
teams at the Southeastern Classic in Versailles, KY. SSU
placed behind NAIA powers Virginia Intermont, Cumberland
College, Cedarville, and Malone. The Bears finished ahead
of 11th ranked Berry University. Brett LeMaster led the
Bears with an 18th place finish in a time of 26:59. Larry
Gardner placed 30th overall in 27:27. He was followed
closely by Dirk Hollar in 27:28. Scott LeMaster (27:38)
and Corey Snyder (28:00) rounded out the scoring for Shawnee
State.

October 15 @ Wilmington Fall
Classic
|
|
Shawnee
State team placed 2nd out of 18 teams at the Wilmington Fall
Classic. Brett LeMaster paced the men's squad with an 8th
place finish in a time of 26:24. Larry Gardner ran 11th in
26:41. Scott LeMaster ran 15th in 26:57 and Dirk Hollar
ran 27:00 to finish 17th. Dave Walker rounded out the
Bears' top five with a 24th place finish in 27:14.

October 8 @ All-Ohio Meet
|
|
Shawnee
State placed 5th of 9 teams in the NCAA II/NAIA Division of the
All-Ohio Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University. Scott LeMaster
finished 16 in the division.
He covered the 8k course in a time of 27:59.
Larry Gardner placed 25th in 28:17 and Brett
LeMaster was 25th in 28:24.
Sean Worley and Josh Murray rounded out the scoring for
Shawnee State.

October 2 @ Rio Grande
Invitational
|
|
Shawnee State won its first meet of
the season as they placed 1st out of 10 teams at the Rio Grande
Invitational. Brett LeMaster led the men with a 2nd place
finish overall in a time of 27:05. Larry Gardner ran 3rd
in 27:09. Scott LeMaster ran sixth in 27:32 and Dirk
Hollar ran seventh in 27:35. Josh Murray (27:41) and Corey
Snyder (27:44) placed 9th and 10th respectively.

Invitational
|
|
Shawnee
State placed 2nd out of 12 teams at the Winthrop
Invitational. The Bears placed behind 5th ranked Virginia
Intermont College. Brett LeMaster paced the men’s team
with an 8th place finish in 26:15.
Larry Gardner finished 13th in 27:01.
Scott LeMaster (27:11), Dirk Hollar (27:14), and Blake
Jones (27:29) placed 15-17 to round out the scoring for Shawnee
State.

September 18 @ Friendship
Invitational
|
|
Shawnee State placed 6th out of 11
teams at the Friendship Invitational hosted by Cedarville
University. Brett
LeMaster led the Bears with a 12th place finish in a time
of 26:20. His time is
the 13th fastest ever run by an SSU Bear.
Larry Gardner (27:04), Dirk Hollar (27:05), and David Walker
(27:08) placed 29 – 31. Scott
LeMaster placed 42nd in 27:29 to round out the scoring
for Shawnee State.

September 11 @ Kentucky Christian
Invitational
|
|
SSU split its men’s squad and
participated in the Kentucky Christian Invitational.
The Bears won the event for the fifth consecutive year.
Blake Jones won the race for the second straight year.
He covered the 8-kilometer course in 29:23.
Lee Boerstler (29:49) placed second.
John Marcus Murray was third in 31:46 and Andy Little
finished fourth in 32:04. Jeremiah
Morrow was sixth with a time of 33:53.

Invitational
|
|
Shawnee State placed 3rd out of 7
teams at the Hanover Invitational. Brett
LeMaster paced the Bears with a 10th place finish and a
time of 27:48. Larry
Gardner (28:36) and Sean Worley (28:43) finished 18th and
19th respectively. Dirk
Hollar was 22nd with a time of 28:51.
Corey Snyder rounded out the scoring for the Bears with a 23rd
place finish in a time of 28:53.

September 3 @ Tiffin-Heidelberg
Classic
|
|
Shawnee
State placed 5th out of 8 teams at the
Tiffin-Heidelberg Classic. Senior
Brett LeMaster paced the men’s team with a 10th
place finish. He
covered the 8-kilometer course in 27:23.
Freshman Sean Worley finished 23rd in
28:15 followed by sophomore Kris Jones in 28:16.
Caleb Arnold (28:18) and Dirk Hollar (28:21) rounded
out the scoring for the Bears.
SSU was without the services of two of their top five
runners. Larry
Gardner and Josh Murray were out with injuries.
Two of SSU’s other top five, Craig Arnett and Scott
LeMaster, ran despite nagging injuries.
