NAIA National Championship
Shawnee State runners, John Williams and Dirk Hollar,
became the first Bears to ever compete in the NAIA National
Championship Meet. Hollar finished 125th in a time of
27:32. Williams placed 164th in 28:06.
Unfortunately, for John Williams, he and another runner
collided around the 1-mile mark. He stumbled and was
unable to recover his stride.

November 9 @ AMC/NAIA
Region IX Championship
Shawnee State
University finished 4th out of 13 teams at the AMC/Region IX
Championship Meet. John
Williams led the Bears with a 9th place finish overall. He covered
the 8k-course in 26:19. Dirk Hollar finished in 10th place, just two
seconds behind Williams. Craig Arnett, Brett LeMaster, and Adam
Tolle rounded out the top five for the Bears. By virtue of
their top 10 finishes, Williams and Hollar earn All-AMC honors and a
trip to the NAIA National Championship Meet in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
They will be the first Shawnee State cross-country runners to ever
compete in the National Meet. The Bears finished with a score of 89,
just three points behind Cedarville, and only 10 points behind
second-place Rio Grande. Malone College, ranked 7th in the country,
won the event with a score of 23.

Gettysburg Invitational
Shawnee State
placed 3rd out of 40 teams at the Gettysburg
Invitational. John Williams led the Bears with a 6th
place finish in a time of 26:40. Brett LeMaster finished
12th in 26:58. Adam Tolle, Dirk Hollar, and Craig Arnett
rounded out the top five for SSU.

Wilmington Fall Classic
Shawnee
State finished just 1 point behind 24th ranked Cedarville
University to take second place at the Wilmington Fall Classic.
John Williams paced the Bears with a 5th place finish. He
covered the 5-mile course in a Shawnee State record time of
26:05. Brett LeMaster finished 6th with a time of 26:10. Dirk
Hollar, Craig Arnett, and Adam Tolle rounded out the top five
for SSU.

October 11 @ SSU
Invitational
The
men’s squad took the top three spots and five of the top ten
at the SSU Invitational.
John Williams led the way with a time of 26:40.
Brett LeMaster finished second in 27:09, and Dirk
Hollar placed third with a time of 27:19.
Adam Tolle finished sixth in 27:39, while Craig Arnett
placed seventh in 28:03.
Chad Danner and Blake Jones rounded out the scoring for
the Bears.
Shawnee State finished ahead of nine other schools.
The University of Charleston placed second, followed by
Asbury College, Georgetown College, and Kentucky Christian
College to complete the top 5.

Grande Invitational
Shawnee
State finished 2nd of nine teams at the Rio Grande
Invitational. John
Williams led the Bears as he finished 4th overall. He covered
the 8k-course in 26:20. Brett LeMaster(27:00), Dirk Hollar
(27:05), and Craig Arnett (27:12) all finished in the top 10.
Adam Tolle, Trent Hyland, and Chad Danner rounded out the scoring
for the Bears.

Greensboro
Shawnee State won
their fourth meet of the season as they captured the
Greensboro Invitational. John Williams led the Bears
with a second place finish. He covered the 5-mile course
in 26:28, which is the third fastest time in SSU
history. Brett LeMaster placed 4th with a personal-best
time (and 7th fastest at SSU) of 26:56. Dirk Hollar placed
10th overall in a time of 27:23. Craig Arnett placed
17th in 27:37. Adam Tolle, Trent Hyland, and Chad Danner
rounded out the scoring for Shawnee State.

Big Blue Challenge
Shawnee State swept
the top ten spots as they captured their second consecutive
Big Blue Challenge. Eric Stephen won the event. He
was followed by Garrett Smith, Nick Liberator, Chad Danner,
Adam Tolle, and Craig Arnett.

Cedarville Friendship Invitational
Shawnee
State second at the 12th Annual Friendship Invitational on
Saturday morning. The Bears finished just twelve points behind
22nd ranked Cedarville University and two points ahead of NCAA
Division I, Wright State University.
John Williams paced the Bears as he finished third overall. He
covered the 8,000-meter course in 26:08, the fastest time in
SSU history. Dirk Hollar and Brett LeMaster also hit the
record books for SSU. Each recorded times that landed them on
the school’s All-Time Top 20 list. Hollar finished 12th
overall. His time of 27:08, ranks 11th on the list. Brett
LeMaster finished 15th with a time of 27:15, the 15th fastest
time recorded at SSU. Craig
Arnett, Adam Tolle, Trent Hyland, and Chad Danner rounded out
the scoring for Shawnee State.

Kentucky Christian Invitational
Shawnee State took
four of the top five spots at the Kentucky Christian
Invitational to win their second meet of the season. This
marks the third straight KCC title for the Bears. David Walker won the men’s meet
with a time of 30:18. Garrett Smith finished second in
30:43. Eric Stephan covered the 8k-course in a personal-best
31:26 to take fourth place. Blake Jones took fifth with a time
of 32:07. Dustin Jacobs rounded out the scoring for the Bears
with an eleventh place finish in 35:51.

Hanover Invitational
The Shawnee
State University Cross Country Team finished 4th out of 15
teams at the Hanover Invitational. John Williams led the
Bears with a 6th place finish. He covered the 8k-course in
26:31, which is the second fastest time run in SSU history.
Dirk Hollar placed 16th with a time of 27:40. Adam Tolle,
Craig Arnett, and Brett LeMaster rounded out the Bears’ top
five.

Asbury-Jessamine Special
The Shawnee
State University Men’s Cross Country Team opened the 2002
season with a victory at the Asbury-Jessamine Special.
Shawnee State and division I Morehead State University tied
with 32 points apiece. The Bears won the tiebreaker when Chad
Danner, their sixth place runner, finished seven places ahead
of MSU’s sixth runner. The Bears’ John Williams captured
the meet championship with a time of 27:13. Shawnee State
placed four other runners in the top ten. They were Dirk
Hollar, Craig Arnett, Adam Tolle, and Brett LeMaster.
