BRUNS NAMED NAIA SCHOLAR ATHLETES

Junior Alex Bruns was named an NAIA Scholar Athlete for his excellence in the classroom. To be eligible to be NAIA Scholar Athlete, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. 

Bruns, a junior from Middletown, Ohio is a Mathematics major.

This is the first time Bruns has received this honor.

 

 
FRANKLIN NAMED HONORABLE MENTION ALL-MSC; BRUNS CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER RECIPIENT

Senior Keelyn Franklin was named Honorable Mention All-Mid-South Conference during the banquet at the MSC Tournament on Thursday evening.  Keelyn, a guard from Warren, OH averaged 12.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game.  This is the second consecutive year that Franklin has earned this honor.

During the banquet, junior Alex Bruns was named the Champions of Character recipient.  This award is voted on by conference athletics directors for his civic and servant leadership within the campus and community. 

THREE BEARS EARN MSC ACADEMIC ALL-CONFERENCE

Three Shawnee State men's basketball players earned Mid-South Conference Academic All-Conference honors Thursday night at the MSC banquet in Frankfort, KY.  To be eligible a student-athlete must be of sophomore, junior or senior and maintain a grade point average of 3.25.  Earning this honor for the Bears were sophomores Tyler Boyles and Tyler Morgan and junior Alex Bruns.

Boyles, a guard from Raceland, KY, is a Mathematics Education major.

Morgan, a forward from Hamersville, OH, majors in Computer Engineering.

Bruns, a center from Middletown, OH, is a Mathematics Education major.

MORGAN EARNS NAIA PLAYER OF THE WEEK STATUS

Tyler Morgan, a forward from Hamersville, Ohio, was named NAIA Player of the Week for his performance on the hardwood from January 3 to January 9.

MORGAN NAMED MSC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
1/10/2011

Sophomore Tyler Morgan (Hamersville, OH) was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week for games ending January 8.

Morgan averaged a double-double in a pair of wins, including the program's first-ever MSC win.  The forward averaged 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds while leading the Bears to victories over Berea College and No. 3 Georgetown College. 

Morgan scored 16 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the Bears' 77-60 win over visiting Berea on Thursday.  He went 6-for-12 from the field, including 1-of-2 from beyond the arc.

Morgan hit nine of his 10 shots to tally 21 points in Shawnee State's 78-71 upset win over Georgetown.  He also grabbed 10 rebounds and had an assist, block and steal in the game. 

On the week, Morgan connected on 68% of his shots and recorded his sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season.

Morgan ranks 11th in the Mid-South Conference in scoring (13.7) and second in rebounding (9.2).  He is tied for the conference lead with his seven double-doubles.
