May 13 vs. Mount Vernon (AMC Tournament)
Shawnee State baseball team fell in a double-header on Thursday afternoon as Mount Vernon captured the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship.  Shawnee State fell in the opener 12-6, forcing game three where the Bears made a rally late but fell 11-9.   In game one, the Cougars jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after two.  Mount Vernon then put the game away as they scored five more runs in the fourth to stretch their lead to 9-0.  The Bears got on the board in the bottom of the fourth.  Phillip Butler led off with a single through the left side.  Pinch runner Camden Sauls then scored on an error by Mount Vernon's second baseman.  Mount Vernon added runs in the fifth and sixth to extend their lead to 12-1.  Shawnee State cut the deficit in the seventh.  Danny Gesick doubled to center, scoring Quentin Everman and Nick Ball.  Butler then hit a sacrifice fly to left; scoring Ricky Masson and cutting the Cougars lead to 12-4.  The Bears scored two more runs in the eighth on a sacrifice fly to left from Everman, scoring Jordan Maier.  Ball singled to center, scoring Hammontree, but that was as close as the Bears would get as they lost 12-6.  Cory Pallutch was tagged with the loss as he pitched four innings allowing nine runs on nine hits, a walk, and a strike out.  Ball went 4-for-5 in the game with one run scored and one RBI. Hammontree and Butler each finished 2-for-4 in the game.  Hammontree scored one run and Butler tallied an RBI.  [Box Score]  In the nightcap, both teams scored three runs in the first.  Brian Ramey hit a three-run homerun in the top of the first and Mount Vernon's Steve Williams answered with a three-run homerun of his own. Mount Vernon then scored two runs in the second, third, and fourth, as they Bears found themselves down 9-3.  The Bears started rallying back in the sixth as the Bears hit back-to-back homeruns.  Ramey led the Bears off with his seventh homerun of the season and second of the game.  Zach Byler followed with a homerun of his own, cutting the Cougar lead to 9-6.  In the top of the seventh, Byler hit his fifth homerun of the season, pulling the Bears within two.  The Cougars stretch their lead back to three in the bottom of the inning as Travis McInerny scored on an error by Shawnee State.  The Bears didn't score in the eighth and Mount Vernon's Chaz Gibson hit a homerun to lead off the Cougars in the bottom of the eight, extending the lead to 11-7.  Shawnee State put on their rally caps in the top of the ninth.  Gesick led off with a double and crossed the plate on a single by Butler.  Maier singled to center field scoring pinch runner Sauls, but that would be as close as the Bears would get as they fell 11-9.  Adam Wamsley got the loss as he pitched seven innings allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, walking one and striking out four.  In his final game as a Bear, Adam Hatton pitched one inning allowing one hit and had two strikeouts.  In his final game, Ramey recorded two homeruns.  Butler, Byler, and Maier also had two hits in the game.  Hammontree scored a run in his final contest for Shawnee State.  [Box Score]
 
May 12 vs. Mount Vernon (AMC Tournament)
Shawnee State baseball team defeated Mount Vernon 11-6 in game one of the best-of-three series.  Mount Vernon struck first as Steve Williams led off the third as he was hit by a pitch.  Matt Parks doubled, scoring Williams to put the Cougars on the board.  SSU's Zach Byler walked to lead off the sixth inning.  Jordan Maier laid down a sacrifice bung, scoring Byler to tie the game at 1-1.  After a three hour and five minute rain delay the Bears brought out the bats as they accumulated six hits to score four runs.  Ricky Masson got the Bears started with a single down the left line and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Masson scored on a single by Phillip Butler.  Ramey followed with a single through the middle advancing pinch runner Camden Sauls to third.  Sauls scored on a single by Maier.  A single by Kyle Hammontree loaded the bases and Quentin Everman single through the middle, scoring Sauls and Ramey to give the Bears the 5-1 lead.  "To their credit, our guys stayed focused through the long delay and came out swinging," said head coach Ted Tom.  "It was the difference in the game."  In the bottom of the eighth, three hits and three Mount Vernon errors allowed the Bears to score five more runs.  Danny Gesick led off the inning with a single to center and Butler doubled to left, advancing Gesick to third.  Ramey reach as he was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Byler reached on a fielder's choice, but an error by Mount Vernon's third basemen would plate Gesick.  Everman recorded two more RBI's as he single to center, scoring pinch runner Joe Gonser and Byler.  Everman and Kyle Hammontree both scored on an error by Mount Vernon's first baseman as the Bears took a 10-1 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.  "Being able to add on runs was so important in tonight's game," said Tom.  "You just never know what is going to happen in our park."  However, Mount Vernon found themselves back in the game in the bottom of the eighth.  Austin Dunfee walked Mount Vernon's first two batters and a single by Travis McInerny loaded the bases.  Josh Roberts singled to center, scoring two runs.  Another walk loaded the bases again for the Cougars.  Zach Brooks then took the mound for the Bears.  A single by Parks brought two more runs across the plate.  Mount Vernon loaded the bases again on as Ian Durbin reached on a walk.  Adam Wamsley came in to pitch and walked Michael Hendren to give the Cougars another run.  Wamsley forced a fly out and struck Jordan Doherty out to end the inning with the score 10-6.  Brian Ramey hit a homerun in the top of the 9th to extend the Bears lead to 11-6.  Wamsley only allowed one hit in the final inning to give the Bears the victory and the 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series for the American Mideast Conference Tournament Championship.  Austin Dunfee picked up his sixth win on the mound as he pitched three innings allowing five runs on two hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.   Adam Wamsley recorded his eighth save of the season as he closed the game allowing one hit, one walk, and struck out one.  "Adam has been automatic so far this year.  He is a real weapon for us out of the bullpen," said Tom.  Everman went 3-for-5 in the game with five RBI's and a run scored.  Ramey went 3-for-5 with a homerun and two runs scored , while Masson went 4-for-6 with a double and a run scored.  [Box Score]
 
May 11 vs. Malone (AMC Tournament)
Shawnee State baseball team scored in every inning as they smashed Malone University 18-5 to eliminate the Pioneers from the American Mideast Conference Tournament. Malone hit back-to-back homeruns by Alex Schmid and T.J. Rosenburg in the top of the first to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.  However, the Bears answered with back-to-back homeruns of their own.  Phillip Butler hit a three-run homerun to put the Bears on the board and Brian Ramey followed with a homerun to tie the game.  A pair of Malone errors and a single by Quentin Everman, scored Zach Byler and gave the Bears the 5-4 lead after one and the Bears never looked back.  "Our offensive guys were fantastic today," says Head Coach Ted Tom.  "It was huge for us to be able to answer back right away in the first inning and take the lead."  Jordan Maier sacrificed in the second, scoring Danny Gesick giving the Bears the 6-4 lead.  Malone's only other run of the game came in the bottom of third on a double by Rosenburg.  Nick Ball scored in the third on an error by Malone to add to the Bears' lead.  Shawnee State put the dagger in the Pioneers in the fourth as they scored six runs on five hits.  Ramey led off the inning with a double to center.  Zach Byler followed with a walk and Jordan Maier double to right, scoring both runners.  Kyle Hammontree singled to right and Everman walked to load the bases.  Maier then scored as Ball reached on a fielder's choice.  A single by Ricky Masson, scored Hammontree and a double by Butler scored the Bears other two runs of the inning, giving the Bears the 13-5 lead.  Coach Tom states, "As a coach you can't ask for anything more out of your hitters than to score in every inning.  It allowed Andy to settle down after a tough start and pitch to his capabilities."  A single by Everman in the fifth would plate Hammontree and Maier, giving the Bears the double digit lead.  The Bears finished their slugfest in the sixth as Zach Byler hit a three-run homerun to give the Bears the 18-5 win.  "It is the best case scenario start for us, but its just a start.  We have plenty of work left to do." say Tom.  Andrew Carter picked up his seventh victory on the mound as he pitched a complete game allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks.  Carter struck out 11 batters breaking SSU's record for strikeouts in a season (66) that was held by Jonathan Venters.  Carter has retired 74 batters this season on the mound. Butler finished the game 4-for-5 at the plate, with a homerun, double, and five RBI's.  Everman went 3-for-3 in the game with three RBI's, while Maier went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI's.  Masson and Ramey also had two hits in the game, and Masson added three runs for the Bears.  [Box Score]
 
May 9 @ Notre Dame
The Shawnee State baseball team captured their first American Mideast Conference title with a come from behind 9-4 victory over Notre Dame.  After losing the opener 7-4 and falling behind 2-0 in the first inning of game two, the Bears responded with three runs in the third and never looked back as they went on to secure home field for the AMC Tournament.  The Bears finish the regular season with a record of 17-7 in the AMC and 28-27 overall.  Adam Hatton, started game two for the Bears, and gave up two runs in the first.  Following the rough start, Hatton settled in not allowing another run.  "I just calmed down after the first inning and starting making pitches like my coaches have taught me," Hatton, a senior, said.  "Once I started throwing first pitch strikes and commanding the zone, the rest of the game came easily."  The Bears offense countered in the third, scoring three runs, and taking the 3-2 advantage.  Nick Ball got the Bears rolling with a single to centerfield and  advanced to second on a fielding error.  Ricky Masson singled to right, scoring Ball to put the Bears on the board.  Danny Gesick gave the Bears the lead for good as he crushed his twelfth homerun of the season over the centerfield fence.  The Bears would eventually load the bases, but a double play would end the inning, and keep the game close.  The Bears extended their lead in the fourth as they scored two more runs as the top of the order continued their hot hitting.  Kyle Hammontree led off the inning with a single to left and advanced to second on a single by Ball.  Masson singled to centerfield to score Hammontree.  Gesick followed with a single to right  scoring pinch runner Paul Zalar, to give the Bears the 5-2 lead.  Adam Wamsley relieved Hatton on the mound in the fifth.  However, the Falcons' weren't ready to surrender, as they scored two runs to pull within one (5-4).  "We got a great start out of Hatton and once we put the ball in Wamsley's hand with a lead, we knew we were in great shape to win," said head coach Ted Tom.  "Even after Notre Dame answered back, there was no worry on the part of our guys."  Shawnee State answered Notre Dame's charge scoring four runs in the final two innings.  Zach Byler and Jordan Maier reached on two Notre Dame errors to begin the fifth.  Singles by Quentin Everman and Ball brought the runners home, giving the Bears the 7-4 lead.  Gesick led off the sixth inning with a double and then advanced to third and scored on a pair of wild pitches.  Byler doubled to centerfield and Maier reached on an error by NDC's shortstop advancing Byler to third.  A double steal allowed Byler to steal from third before Maier got caught in a rundown.  The Bears captured the crown as the Falcons ended the game on a ground out to Wamsley and a pair of fly-outs to Hammontree.  "Our guys deserve all the credit for this win and our first ever AMC regular season championship," said Tom.  "They put in the time and work to make this program successful and this is the best end result I can imagine for all that sacrifice."  "I have had a great four years here at Shawnee State," said senior first baseman Brian Ramey.  "To be able to end my career with a conference championship is something I will hold on to for the rest of my life.  I am looking forward to playing for a tournament championship right here in our home park." Hatton picked up his third win of the season as he pitched four innings allowing two runs on six hits.  He walked one batter and struck out two.  Wamsley captured his seventh save of the season as he pitched the final three innings allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out two.  Danny Gesick went 3-for-4 at the plate, with a homerun, double, two runs scored, and three RBI's.  Nick Ball finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.  Kyle Hammontree, who has struggled lately at the plate, came out of his slump as he gave the Bears two much needed hits while scoring a run.  Ricky Masson also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI's.  Zach Byler and Phillip Butler each doubles in the game for the Bears.  [Box Score]  The Bears lost the opener 7-4.  Shawnee State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a double by Butler, scoring Ball and Gesick.  Notre Dame scored one run in the third to pull within one.  The Bears answered in the third as they scored another run to take a 3-1 lead.  Ball doubled down the right field line and scored on a single by Masson.  After the Bears committed an error in the fourth the Falcons used it scoring three runs to take a 4-3 lead.  The Bears had their opportunities in the fourth and fifth but didn't capitalize.  With bases loaded in the fifth, the Bears stranded the runners with a strikeout.  Notre Dame scored in the bottom of the fifth, but Shawnee State answered with a solo run, trailing 5-4.  Notre Dame added to their lead in the seventh, scoring two runs, giving them a three-run cushion leading into the bottom of the seventh.  The Bears finished the game with a strikeout and two ground balls to fall 7-4.  Austin Dunfee was tagged with the loss as he pitched a complete game allowing seven runs (six earned) on 14 hits.  He walked three, while striking out four.  Ball went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored two runs for the Bears.  Butler finished the game going 2-for-4, with three RBI's.  [Box Score]
 
May 8 vs. Malone (Canton, OH)

After a tremendous display of offensive power from the Bears in the early innings, the Pioneers brought out the bats to tie the game 8-8 in the eighth inning.  The Pioneers took the lead in the ninth on an RBI single from third baseman Alex Schmid.  First baseman Brian Ramey tried to get a rally started in the final inning with a single to left field but the Bear’s were unable to capitalize as the Pioneers took the victory 9-8.  Leading 1-0 going into the second inning, Zach Byler led the offense for the Bears as he blasted a triple to left center field.  Kyle Hammontree reached on an error by Schmid, allowing Byler to score.  Paul Zalar singled to center.  Nick Ball brought the two runners in on his single to center.  Both Jordan Maier and Danny Gesick provided RBI singles to right field to give the Bears a 6-0 lead before the Pioneers could end the onslaught.  Byler added to the lead in the third with a solo shot over the right field wall.  Malone battled back throughout the game scoring two runs in the fourth and five in the seventh before scoring the winning run in the ninth.  Byler went 3-for-5 with a homerun, a triple, two runs, and one RBI.  Maier also went 2-for-5 in the game with a run and a RBI. May 7 @ Mount Vernon
Shawnee State baseball team split a double-header at Mount Vernon today.  In other conference action today, Malone fell to Walsh allowing the Bears to clinch a share of the American Mideast Conference regular season title.  Shawnee State won the opener 12-6.  The Bears got on the board first as they tallied three runs in the third inning.  Nick Ball reached on a walk, then advanced to second on a single by Ricky Masson.  Danny Gesick loaded the bases on a walk.  Ball scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Phillip Butler.  Brian Ramey then doubled to center, scoring Gesick and Masson and giving the Bears the 3-0 advantage.  Mount Vernon knotted the game at 3-3 as the Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth.  The Bears answered back as Butler hit a two-run homerun in the fifth.  The Cougars cut the lead as Michael Hendren lead off the fifth with a homerun of this own.  The Bears had a big sixth inning as they scored seven runs.  Jordan Maier led off the inning with a single through the middle and then advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Kyle Hammontree.  Everman reached on a walk.  Maier and Everman scored on a double by Ball.  Ball scored on a single by Masson.  Gesick reached on walk and Butler reached on a fielder's choice, but an error by Mount Vernon allowed pinch runner Jordan Stum to cross the plate.  Brian Ramey then drilled a three-run homerun over the left field wall to give the Bears the 12-4 lead. Shawnee State gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh to go on to win 12-6.  Kyle Compton led the Bears on the mound as he picked up his second win of the season.  He pitched a complete game allowing six runs on 12 hits, three walks, while striking out three batters.           [Box Score]  In the nightcap, Mount Vernon scored three runs in the second inning on a single by Ian Durbin and a double by Hendren to take an early 3-0 lead.  The Bears got on the board as Masson hit an RBI single to center field scoring Everman in the top of the third.  The Cougars added to their lead scoring two more runs in the third.  Travis McInerny led off the inning with a single.  Josh Roberts reached on a hit by pitch.  Pinch runner Christian Gomes scored on a wild pitch by SSU's Zach Brooks.  A single by Matt Parks drove in Roberts, giving the Cougars the 5-1 advantage.  In the top of the fourth, Shawnee State's Zach Byler singled to left field.  Maier then hit a single through the left side and both runners advanced on an error by Mount Vernon.  Byler scored on a single by Hammontree and Maier scored on a sacrifice fly by Everman, cutting Mount Vernon's lead 5-3.  The Bears gave up two more runs in the fifth and managed only two more hits in the game as they went on to fall to Mount Vernon 7-3.  Jordan Williams was tagged with the loss for the Bears as he pitched started and pitched two innings allowing three runs on two hits and two walks.  [Box Score]
 
May 6 vs. Mount Vernon
Shawnee State baseball team split a double-header with Mount Vernon.  The Bears won the opener 2-1.  Shawnee State got on the board first.  Sophomore Nick Ball led off the first inning with a single through the right side and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Sophomore Danny Gesick then hit a single through the middle, scoring Ball and giving them the 1-0 advantage.  Mount Vernon knotted the game at 1-1 in the third inning as Chaz Gibson lead off the inning with a homerun.  In the seventh inning, sophomore Quentin Everman hit a double down the left field line and then sophomore Nick Ball was intentionally walked.  With two outs, SSU's slugger Gesick stepped to the plate and hit a single to left field, scoring Everman to give the Bears the 2-1 win. Junior Andrew Carter improved his record to 6-4 on the mound as he pitched a complete game allowing one run on two hits, one walk, while striking out three batters.  MVNU's Grant Martin was tagged with the loss as he pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up two runs on eight hits, one walk, and struck out one.  Gesick was 2-for-4 at the plate, while Ball went 2-for-3.  Junior Phillip Butler added a double for the Bears. [Box Score]  In game two, the Cougars scored in all but one inning en route to a 19-11 win over the Bears.  Mount Vernon scored three runs in the first inning, but the Bears answered with three runs of their own to tie the game.  The Cougars then scored two runs in the second and third inning to take a 7-3 lead.  The Cougars let their lead slip, as Shawnee State scored seven runs on three hits in the third inning to tie the game at 10-10. However, Mount Vernon would go on to scored two runs in the fifth and seven in the seventh to take the win.  Gesick went 3-for-4 at the plate, with two doubles, two runs scored, and three RBI's.  In his final home game, senior Brian Ramey went 2-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and three RBI's.  Freshman Jordan Stum added a homerun, while Ball and freshman Camden Sauls each scored two runs for the Bears.  Sophomore Zach Brooks was tagged with the loss as he pitched one inning allowing three runs on three hits, with two strikeouts.  Jeff Estep got the win for the Cougars as he pitched the final 4 1/3 innings allowing three runs on two hits and two walks.  He also had two strikeouts in the game. May 1 vs. Notre Dame
Shawnee State baseball team swept a double-header from Notre Dame.  Shawnee State won the opener 9-1.  Andrew Carter dominated the first game against the Falcons of Notre Dame while the Bears offense was consistent throughout. Carter threw a career-high 13 strikeouts while giving up only one earned run. In the first inning Adam Wamsley singled and advanced to third on a throwing error. Danny Gesick knocked him with a single to take the early 0-1 lead. After going to third on Butler’s single Gesick made it home on a Brian Ramey fielder’s choice.  The Bears would put two more on the board in the second when Nick Ball singled bringing in both Quentin Everman and Camden Sauls. The consistency would continue in the coming innings. In the third Philip Butler led off with a walk and Kyle Hammontree pinch ran. Brian Ramey singled and advanced Hammontree to second. Jordan Maier walked to load the bases for the Bears in the bottom of the third. However, the Bears would only get one run on a Camden Sauls sacrifice fly.  The bottom of the fourth would see two more runs for Shawnee State as they touched up the pitching staff of Notre Dame. After two consecutive outs the Bears’ bats came back to life. Gesick and Butler knocked back to back singles and Brian Ramey hit them in with a two out double. The Bears would then tack on one run in both the fifth and sixth innings; an Everman sacrifice fly scoring Maier and a Ramey single scoring Hammontree respectively. The lone Falcon run came in the sixth when Younis scored on a wild pitch by Carter.  Andrew Carter pitched an excellent game with a career high in strikeouts, sitting down 13 via the K. Carter only walked three Falcons and gave up a measly four hits in the game en route to the dominant game one victory by the Bears.  [Box Score]  After giving up three runs in the first inning, the Bears battled back to go onto win the nightcap 5-3.  NDC's Brett Zientarski hit a three-run homerun in the top of the third to put the Falcons on the board first.  Danny Gesick answered in the second inning with a two-run homerun to cut the Falcon's lead to 3-2.  Shawnee State added another run in the second.  Ricky Masson led the inning off with a single to left field, advancing to second on a wild pitch and to third on a Notre Dame error.  Camden Sauls then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Masson and knotting the game at 3-3.   The Bears would take the lead in the fifth when Gesick hit another two-run homerun and giving the Bears the 5-3 victory.   Austin Dunfee got the win for the Bears as he pitched six innings allowing three runs on four hits, five walks, while striking out five batters.  Adam Wamsley pitched the final inning for the Bears to pick up the save.  Gesick had a stellar performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two homeruns.  Jordan Maier added a double for the Bears.  [Box Score]
 
April 24 vs. Malone
On Saturday the Bears hosted the second doubleheader of the weekend against Malone University.  The Bears were trailing 6-2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning until Brian Ramey started a rally with his RBI single to center.  With two outs and the bases loaded Colin Keim came in to pinch hit and drilled a 2 RBI single to right field and bring the Bears within one run.  Malone would score on a passed ball in the sixth to make it 7-5 but the Bears fought back to tie the game in their half of the inning.  Danny Gesick singled to the right side to put a runner on first.  Phillip Butler then blasted a homerun to left-center field to tie the game at 7-7 and eventually send it into extra innings.  Adam Wamsley led off the eighth inning with a single to shortstop.  Zach Byler came in to run for Wamsley.  Jordan Stum reached on an error and advanced Byler to third base.  With a runner in scoring position, Jordan Maier singled through the right side to bring in Byler and win the game 8-7.  Butler went 3-for-5 in the game with a homerun, three RBIs, and one run.  Gesick went 3-for-5 with a double, 2 runs , and one RBI.  Maier went 3-for-3 with one RBI and a stolen base.  Ramey went 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run.  Keim also went 1-for-1 with and two RBIs.  Adam Wamsley got the win for the Bears as he went two innings allowing only two hits on no runs and he struck out one.  Wamsley improves to 5-2 on the season. April 23 vs. Malone
The Shawnee State Baseball Team lost both AMC Conference games during their doubleheader with Malone on April 23, 2010.  The Bears fall to 22-23 on the season and 11-3 in the AMC.  Malone jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in game one.  The Bears tried to rally back in the third inning when Kyle Hammontree and Jordan Maier each produced RBI singles.  The Bears final run of the game came off the sacrifice fly from Brian Ramey in the fourth inning.  Malone went on to win 8-3.Ramey went 1-for-3 in the game with a RBI and a run.  Ricky Masson went 1-for-3 with a run.  Phillip Butler also went 2-for-4 in the game.  Andrew Carter was tagged with the loss for the Bears.  Carter went six innings and struck out nine batters.  [Box Score]  Malone again jumped out to a big lead in game two.  Trailing by seven, the Bears got their first run on the board when Camden Sauls crossed the plate on an RBI single from Brian Ramey.  The Bears had several chances to catch up but their last runs came off a two RBI double to left center from Danny Gesick in the fourth inning.  Malone took the second game 9-3.  Gesick went 2-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs in the game.  Phillip Butler  went 1-4 with a double.  Brian Ramey went 1-for-4 with a RBI.  Both Nick Ball and Ricky Masson went 2-for-4 in the game.  Austin Dunfee was tagged with the loss for the Bears.  Dunfee went six innings and struck out five batters. April 20 vs. St. Catharine

Sophomore Nick Ball hit his first homerun of the season to put the Bears within one in the bottom of the ninth inning, but the Bears fell short as they lost to St. Catharine 8-7 in non-conference action. St. Catharine's Brian Jones hit a two-run homerun in the top of the first inning to get the Patriots on the board.  The Bears got on the board in the third inning as Ball doubled right center, scoring sophomore Jordan Maier and cutting the Patriot's lead to 2-1.  Junior Philip Butler led off the fourth inning with a homerun, his eighth of the season, to knot the game at 2-2.  Shawnee State took the lead in the fifth.  Junior Zach Byler led off the inning with a single to third, then advanced to second on a passed ball.  Maier singled on a bunt, advancing Byler to third, where he would scored on an error by St. Catharine's second baseman.  Maier then scored to give the Bears' the 4-2 lead on a single to right field by Ball.  St. Catharine led off the sixth inning with singles by Brian Jones and Philip Dean.  Tyler Mischel then hit a three-run homerun to retake the lead from the Bears.  St. Catharine added on to their lead as they hit back-to-back homeruns in the top of the ninth.  The Bears rallied back as Ball's three-run homeruns put the Bears within one, but the Bears ended the game on a pair of groundouts to fall 8-7. Junior Greg Kettle was tagged with the loss for the Bears as he pitched one inning, allowing three runs on three hits and a walk.  Sophomore Zach Brooks started for the Bears and pitched four innings allowing two runs on three hits, four walks, and struck out two.  Leja got the win for the Patriots as he pitched the first 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs (two earned) on eight hits, two walks, while striking out three.  Jones got the save as he worked the final 1 2/3 innings allowing three runs on two hits, two walks, while striking out one.  Ball finished the game 3-for-5 at the plate, a double and a homerun with five RBI's.  Maier went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored, while Butler added a double and a homerun for the Bears.

April 16 @ Cedarville
The opening game of the AMC doubleheader was highlighted by both pitchers going the complete game. Clint Price of Cedarville and Andrew Carter for the Bears dueled from the mound ending in a 4-2 victory for Shawnee State.  The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the first inning off of a RBI single from Nate Davenport scoring Paul Hembekides. No more scoring would be done until the Bears tied it up in the top of the fourth inning. Brian Ramey singled and then advanced to second on a throwing error by the left fielder. Joe Gonser pitch ran for Ramey. Jordan Maier singled to bring in the run and tie up the game.  Cedarville took the lead again in the bottom of the inning after Rob Nesteroff walked and Chris Ward tripled him in to go up 2-1. The Bears would take control of the game in the top half of the fifth however with two runs that would prove to include the winning run. A Nick Ball walk followed by singles by Ricky Masson and Danny Gesick would load the bases with no outs. Philip Butler grounded out but picked up the RBI as Nick Ball came across home plate. Brian Ramey would add the other RBI with a textbook sacrifice fly.  The Bears got a little breathing room in the top of the seventh inning. Nick Ball drew another walk and was pinch run for by Camden Sauls. After two consecutive outs Philip Butler singled to left field advancing Sauls over to second. Jordan Stum came in to pinch run for Butler. Brian Ramey singled to score Sauls from second and give the Bears a 4-2 lead.  Carter shut down the Yellow Jackets in the bottom of the seventh with two strike outs, and forcing the game ending ground out to third base. Carter only gave up two runs on three hits while striking out seven. He moved to 4-3 on the season. Butler and Maier had a RBI each while Brian Ramey knocked in the other two Bears’ runs. Danny Gesick also went 2-4 in the game.  [Box Score]  The Bears survived a late run by Cedarville to take the second game 7-6. Austin Dunfee picked up the win going six strong innings giving up only three earned runs. Shawnee State struck early with two runs on one hit. Nick Ball was hit by a pitch and Ricky Masson walked to put two on before Danny Gesick’s two RBI triple.  The Bears added another two runs in the top of the third inning when Philip Butler singled to right field scoring Ball and Gesick. Cedarville finally touched up Dunfee in the bottom of the fourth, but the Bears limited them to two runs maintaining a 4-2 advantage after four. Danny Gesick added another RBI when he singled to score Quentin Everman from third in the fifth.  In the top of the sixth the Bears would not know it yet, but they got much needed insurance as they extended their lead to five. Brian Ramey led off with a single to centerfield and was pinch run for by Camden Sauls. After a wild pitch Sauls got in to scoring position at second base. Jordan Maier singled scoring Sauls. Maier would tack on the final Bears run on a wild pitch by Andrew York.  Up 7-3 Zach Brooks came in to close the game but ran in to trouble as Nate Davenport doubled to score Paul Hembekides, and then Brandon Young belted a two-run homerun to bring it to 7-6. Adam Hatton replaced Brooks on the mound and got the next two batters to sweep the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville.  Dunfee got the win moving to 4-0 on the season. He gave up only three earned runs on eight hits during his six innings of work. Hatton picked up his first save of the season in his two-thirds inning of work.  Everman, Gesick, Maier, and Ramey all chimed in with two hits each for the Bears. Maier added a RBI to his season total while Butler added two and Gesick belted in three of his own. The sweep moved the Bears to 10-0 in AMC play.  [Box Score]
 
April 11 @ Ohio Dominican
The trip to Columbus ended in disappointment for the Shawnee State Bears as they dropped both games to the Ohio Dominican Panthers The Panthers took the first game of the doubleheader 4-10 courtesy of a six run sixth inning. They got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning Eian Banks hit a two run single that scored Evan Shaw and John Bowren. They would tack on another run in the second when Shaw drove in John Lydic with a single to bring the score to 0-3.  The Shawnee offense chimed in during the top of the third with a couple of runs of their own. Quentin Everman hit a one out single to reach base safely and Nick Ball followed up with one of his own. Everman would come in to score off of a Danny Gesick double (Ball was called out trying to score). The second run would score when Gesick came home off of a throwing error by Felix Brown.  The Bears would take the lead with another two run inning in the fifth. Nick Ball singled to reach base (Camden Sauls pitch running) when Philip Butler knocked a two-run homerun to take the lead from the Panthers. However, Ohio Dominican would tie up the game in the bottom half of the inning when John Bowren drove in Evan Shaw with a single.  The game slipped out of the paws of the Bears when the Panthers put together a six run sixth. John Lydic and Germaine McAlpine walked and then advanced on back-to-back wild pitches putting runners at second and third. Evan Shaw drove in Lydic’s pitch runner Akil Cavin on a fielder’s choice play and advanced to second on a throwing error. Felix Brown doubled scoring both runners. After Bowron was hit by a pitch Eian Banks hit a three run homerun. The Panthers put together a 1-2-3 seventh to take the first game 4-10.  Nick Vendetti got the victory pitching a complete game. Kyle Compton pitched four and two-thirds innings giving up only three earned runs. Philip Butler went two for three with two RBI with his homerun. [Box Score]  The Bears dropped the second game 1-5 as they only managed to get two hits off of Zane Miller.  The Panthers jumped out to an early lead when Evan Shaw singled and subsequently stole second and third. John Bowren brought him home with a single. They added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning.  With two out and two on Evan Shaw singled and got an RBI when John Lydic came home. Felix Brown followed up with a two RBI single bringing in Shaw and Tyler Bowling. Brooks got the final out to limit the damage. The Panthers lone run in the third came from a Eian Banks homerun.  The Bears got one of their two hits in the top of the fourth when Colin Keim singled. After the first three innings the pitching staff for Shawnee State shut the Panthers out, but SSU would fail to put together enough offense to come back. The Bears would only score in the top of the sixth inning with a Brian Ramey solo blast.  Zane Miller gave up only two hits to the Bears in six and a third innings before Kyle Gore got the final two outs. Zach Brooks gave up all five earned runs in the first three innings, and Adam Hatton came in for the final three giving up not a single hit. Kiem and Ramey got the only two hits of the evening with Ramey knocking one over the wall for the only Bear score.  [Box Score]
 
April 10 vs. Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State baseball team swept a double-header against Ohio Dominican on Saturday afternoon.  The Bears won the opener 8-2.  Sophomore Adam Wamsley got the Bears off to an early start when he singled up the middle off Ohio Dominican pitcher Andy Onak.  Sophomore Danny Gesick then reached on the throwing error by first baseman John Lydic, which allowed Wamsley to cross the plate and give the Bears a 1-0 lead.  The Bears continued the offensive assault in the second inning when senior Brian Ramey doubled to left field.  Two batters later, sophomore Jordan Maier reached on an error and Ramey advanced to third.  Onak then walked the next two batters, sophomore Quentin Everman and sophomore Nick Ball, and forced in Ramey for another run.  Wamsley then reached on a fielder’s choice and brought both Maier and Everman in to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.  Ohio Dominican got on the board in the third inning when left fielder John Bowron homered to make the score 4-1.  The Bears brought the bats back out in the fourth inning when  Maier and Everman both singled and advanced on a passed ball to put them on second and third.  Nick Ball was then walked to load the bases.  Freshman Paul Zalar provided an RBI ground out to short, scoring Maier.  Gesick hit an RBI single scoring Everman.  Junior Phillip Butler then drove in Ball on his RBI single to left field to make the score 7-1.  Ohio Dominican’s John Lydic started off the sixth inning with a double down the left field line.  Second baseman Tyler Bowling then drove in Lydic with an RBI double to give the Panthers their final run of the game.  Gesick answered back in the Bear’s sixth inning as he blasted a homerun over the left field wall to give the Bears an 8-2 lead and the win.  Andrew Carter got the win as he pitched the complete game allowing two runs on eight hits and one strike out.   Carter improves to 3-3 on the season.  Gesick went 2-for-3 in the game with a homerun, 3 RBIs, and a run.  Adam Wamsley went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.  Quentin Everman also went 2-for-2 with two runs in the game.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State won the nightcap as they shutout the Panthers 4-0.  Senior Kyle Hammontree got the Bears rolling as he led off the second inning with a single, and then advanced on a single by Maier.  Junior Zach Byler hit a sacrifice to advance the runners and Everman hit an RBI ground out to score Hammontree and put the Bears on the board.  The Bears scored two more runs in the third inning.  Gesick led off the inning with a walk.  Butler singled through the left side.  Gesick advanced to third on fly out by Ramey while pinch runner freshman Camden Sauls advanced to second on a ground out by junior Ricky Masson.  Hammontree then singled, scoring Gesick while Sauls scored on the play on an ODU error, giving Shawnee State the 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Maier led off as he was hit by a pitch and then advanced to third base on two wild pitches.  Everman then hit an RBI single down the right line to score Maier and giving the Bears the eventual 4-0 win. Sophomore Austin Dunfee improves to 2-0 on the mound as he pitched the complete game allowing four hits, four walks, while striking out a career-high seven batters.  Hammontree went 2-for-3 in the game with two RBI’s and a run scored.  [Box Score]

 
April 3 vs. Point Park
Shawnee State swept the four-game series against Point Park as the Bears picked up two more victories.  Sophomore Adam Wamsley hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 8th inning with two outs to give the Bears the 19-15 win in game 3 of the series.  Point Park jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before the Bears cut the lead as they picked up three runs in the 2nd inning.  The Bears gave up four runs in the 4th, but answered scoring five more runs themselves.  Point Park regain the lead as they tallied five runs in the 6th inning to take a 15-14 lead.  Down a run in the 7th, sophomore Jordan Maier led the Bears off with a double down the right field line.  He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Wamsley to send the game into extra innings knotted at 15 apiece. In the bottom of the 8th with two outs, Wamsley hit a grand slam to give the Bears the victory.  Wamsley was credited with the win as he pitched the final 2 2/3 innings allowing one run on two hits, while striking out three batters.  Derek Peluso was tagged with the loss as he pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on three hits.  Shawnee State tallied 16 his in the game.  Wamsley had a phenomenal game at the plate as he went 3-for-5 in the game, hitting two homeruns, tallying eight RBI's and scoring three runs for the Bears.  Junior Philip Butler was 2-for-4 at the plate with a homerun and three RBI's and two runs.  Sophomore Danny Gesick and senior Brian Ramey each had two hits in the game with two RBI's, while senior Kyle Hammontree and junior Zach Byler each had a homerun in the game.  [Box Score]  Down 5-3, the Bears rallied in the bottom of the 7th to score four runs and win game 4 of the series 7-5.  Gesick and junior Ricky Masson lead the 7th inning off a pair of singles.  Butler then hit a double to right single, scoring a run.  With two outs, freshman Colin Keim hit a three-run homerun to overtake the Pioneers 7-5.  The Bears saw themselves down early as they gave up two runs in the 1st inning and three more in the 2nd.  Shawnee State didn't score until the 5th inning when Gesick hit a single through the middle scoring Wamsley and putting the Bears on the board.  The Bears tallied two more runs in the 6th inning to cut the Pioneer lead to 7-5.Zach Brooks got the win for the Bears as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings allowing only one hit, while striking out one batter. Peluso was tagged with the loss as he pitched the final 2/3 of the game allowing one run on one hit.  Gesick was 3-for-3 in the game with one RBI and a run scored.  Ramey went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and a run scored.  Wamsley and Butler each added a double in the game for the Bears.  [Box Score]
 
April 2 vs. Point Park
Shawnee State swept a double-header at home against Point Park.  The Bears gave up two runs in the top of the 7th, but managed to hold on as they won the opener 6-5.  Point Park scored the first run of the game, as Tom Birko led off the 1st inning with a homerun.  The Bears answered in the first as sophomore Adam Wamsley hit a two-run homerun to give the Bears the 2-1 lead.  Shawnee State recorded three more runs in the 4th.  Sophomore Danny Gesick led the inning off with a double to left center.  He then scored on a fielder's choice.  Senior Kyle Hammontree then hit a two-run homerun to give the Bears the 5-1 advantage.  Point Park cut the Bears lead to 5-3, as they scored runs in the 5th and 6th.  Gesick hit a homerun of his own to lead off the 6th innings and put Shawnee State up 6-3.  Point Park rallied in the 7th as Dan Campbell hit a two-run homerun with two outs to put Point Park within one.  However, junior Andrew Carter struck the next batter out to end the game and give the Bears the 6-5 win.  Carter pitched a complete game allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits, while striking out two.  Seth Martin was tagged with the loss for the Pioneers as he gave up six runs on eight hits, while striking out four.  Sophomore Nick Ball, Wamsley, and Gesick all record two hits in the game.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State won the night cap 4-3.  Shawnee State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning.  Ball led off the inning as he reached on an error.  Wamsley then hit a single through the left side and Gesick walked to load the bases.  Junior Rickey Masson hit a single through the left side scoring two runs. Followed by senior Brian Ramey, who singled up the middle, scoring Gesick.  The Bears tallied another run in the 4th as junior Philip Butler started the inning with a double down the left field line.  Ramey then hit another single up the middle, scoring the runner and giving the Bears the 4-0 advantage.  The Pioneers rallied again in the top of the 7th.  The Pioneers started the inning off with a walk, then a single by Kyle Lucot.  Another walk loaded the bases.  Bryce Pfeuffer hit a single to right field, scoring two runs.   The Pioneers then hit into a double play, but scored another run on the play, putting them within one.  A pop up on the next play to the first baseman ended the game giving the Bears the victory.   Austin Dunfee was tagged with win as hit pitched six innings allowing three runs on six hits, while walking five.  He also struck out six batters in the game.  Wamsley pitched the final inning and allowed one hit to pick up the save.  Joe Cox got the loss for the Pioneers as he allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks in six innings pitched.  Cox struck out four batters.  Wamsley was 2-for-3 at the plate, with a run scored.  Ramey was 2-for-3 with two RBI's.  [Box Score]
 
March 30 @ West Virginia Tech
Shawnee State fell short as they lost to West Virginia Tech 6-5 in non-conference action.  Shawnee State tied the game in the 7th inning, but gave up run in the 8th inning to give West Virginia Tech the 6-3 advantage.  The Bears rallied in the 9th scoring two runs but fell short as they lost 6-5.  West Virginia got on the board first as they tallied three runs in the 2nd inning.  Shawnee State battled back as senior Kyle Hammontree scored in the 4th on a single by freshman Jordan Stum, sophomore Danny Gesick hit a homerun in the 5th, and sophomore Nick Ball scored in the 7th on a single by senior Brian Ramey to knot the game at 3 apiece.  However, the Golden Bears managed to score three runs in the 8th to regain the lead.  Shawnee State came close as Hammontree hit a two-run homerun in the 9th to pull the Bears within one, but the Bears flied out to end the game.  Shawnee State out hit the Bears 12-8 in the game.  Ball was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Bears, while Gesick and sophomore Adam Wamsley each went 2-for-4 in the game.  [Box Score]
 
March 26 & 27 @ Walsh
Shawnee State took all four games from Walsh in their first conference action of the season.  In Game 1, the Bears got to work early by getting back to basics - "get 'em on, get 'em over, and get 'em in."  The Bears sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning and compiled eight runs off of eight hits, which included two singles by Nick Ball, a single and a double by Adam Wamsley, and doubles by Danny Gesick and Kyle Hammontree.  Hammontree answered again in the second inning with a home run to give the Bears a 9-0 lead.Shawnee continued its offensive power in the sixth inning as Phillip Butler blasted a two run homer.  The seventh inning was no different as Hammontree started off with a single.  Two batters later, Quentin Everman provided and RBI single.  Ball singled and advanced Everman to third.  Wamsley then reached on a  RBI fielder's choice and provided the last of the Bear's onslaught as they would go on to win 13-6. Kyle Hammontree went 4-for-4 with a homerun, a double, 3 runs and 3 RBIs.  Butler also went 3-for-4 with a homerun, a double and two RBIs.  The Bears got some quality pitching out of Andrew Carter as he threw a complete game and gave up 6 runs off of 9 hits and striking out 6 batters.  Roper was tagged with the loss for Walsh.  In Game 2,  the Bears scored first in the first inning off of the sacrifice fly from Ricky Masson which scored Ball, who had walked earlier in the inning.  The Bears came back in the third with two more runs off of another sacrifice fly to center field by Gesick scoring Everman, who had singled.  Ball had walked and was then brought in by the RBI single from Masson to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. Walsh answered back in the sixth inning as Shawnee pitcher Austin Dunfee walked Walsh left fielder Lancy.  Miller then singled, putting runners on first and second.  Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch.  Krusinki then reached on an error by third baseman Nick Ball, which scored Lancy and advanced Miller to third.  Dunfee threw another wild pitch which advanced Krusinki to second base.  Suliks then provided a 2 RBI single which tied the game at 3. The scored remained tied until the twelfth inning when Danny Gesick doubled off of Walsh pitcher Krusinki.  Both Jordan Stum and Butler flied out to give the Bears their final out.  First baseman Brian Ramey stepped up for the Bears with a RBI single, which scored Gesick.  Kyle Hammontree then walked and put runners on first and second.  Second baseman Zach Byler then ripped a RBI double to give the Bears 5-3 lead and the extra innings victory.  Danny Gesick went 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and a run.  Ricky Masson also went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.  Adam Wamsley received the victory for the Bears as he went 4 innings and only allowing 4 hits and no runs.  Wamsley improves to 3-2 on the season.  In Game 3, the Bears continued their early offense in the first by the single and stolen base by catcher Nick Ball.  Adam Wamsley then walked before Danny Gesick hit a RBI single scoring Ball.  Later in the inning with runners on first and third, Phillip Butler crushed a RBI single bringing in Wamsley for a 2-0 lead.The Bears were relentless in the third inning when Zach Byler doubled and Paul Zalar singled, putting runners on first and third.  Nick Ball then singled and advanced to second on the error by the right fielder, which put Zalar on third and brought Byler in for the run.  Shortstop Adam Wamsley then jacked a 3 run homerun off of Walsh pitcher Gura to give the Bears a 6-0 lead.  Walsh tried to answered back with a RBI single by Spillman in the second and 2 RBI doubles by Krusinki and smith in the fourth inning.  The Bears closed out the game in the seventh with another run off of the RBI single by pinch hitter Brian Ramey to give the Bears a 7-3 victory.  Adam Wamsley went 1-for-3 with a homerun, 3 RBIs, and 2 runs.  Nick Ball also went 3-for-4 with 2 runs, a RBI, and a stolen base.  Adam Hatton got the victory for the Bears as he went 4 and 2/3 innings and allowing 3 runs off of 8 hits and 1 strike out.  Hatton improves to 1-1 on the season.  Zach Brooks got his first save of the year as he went 2 and 1/3 innings and only allowed one hit.  Gura was tagged with the loss for Walsh.  In Game 4, the Bears continued their early offensive assault as both Ball and Wamsley singled putting runners on first and second.  Gesick then singled and advanced to second on the throw to first.  Ball scored and Wamsley advanced to third.  Ricky Masson then grounded out to shortstop and scored Wamsley and advancing Gesick to third.  Phillip Butler then provided another RBI single.  Camden Sauls then came in to pinch run for Butler.  Brian Ramey singled and Kyle Hammontree reached on a fielder's choice putting runners on first and third.  Both Hammontree and Sauls then stole second and home putting the Bears on top 4-0.Walsh cut the lead in half in the second inning off of the 2 RBI double by Stinson.    Shawnee put another run on the board in the third off of the RBI single by left fielder Quentin Everman.  Stinson drove in the last run for Walsh in the fourth inning off his second double of the game.  The Bears put another 2 runs on the board in the top of the fifth when Everman reached on a fielder's choice which scored pinch runner Joe Gonser.  Nick Ball then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Kyle Hammontree and giving the Bears a 7-3 lead and the victory.  Kyle Hammontree went 2-for-4 with 2 runs and a stolen base.  Quentin Everman went 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.  Brian Ramey also went 2-for-3 with a double.  Cory Pallutch got the victory as he went 5 and 2/3 innings and allowing 3 runs off 9 hits.  He also struck out 3 batters.  He improves to 1-2 on the season. Stinson went 2-for-4 for Walsh with 2 doubles, and 3 RBIs.  Kelly also went 2-for-4.  Muenster was tagged with the loss.      
 
March 23 vs. West Virginia Tech
Shawnee State lost to West Virginia Tech 5-2.  The Bears scored the first run of the game, as sophomore Quentin Everman scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Ricky Masson in the 3rd inning.  The Golden Bears of West Virginia Tech tied the game as they score one run in the 5th inning.  With two outs in the 8th inning, the Bears gave up two runs, giving the Golden Bears the 3-1 lead.  SSU cut the lead as they scored a run in the 8th as senior Brian Ramey hit a double to left center, scoring sophomore Danny Gesick to cut the lead to 3-2.  However, it was not enough as West Virginia Tech scored two more runs in the 9th to tally the final score.  Kyle Compton was tagged with the loss as he pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits.  Adam Hatton started for the Bears and pitched 3 innings allowing 1 hit, while striking out 2.  Cory Pallutch pitched the final 1 1/3 inning, allowing 2 runs (both unearned) on 2 hits and 1 walk.  Jeff Krauklis got the win for the Golden Bears as he pitched the 8th inning allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Shawnee State managed only 5 hits in the contest.  Gesick went 2-for-3 at the plate with 1 run scored, while sophomore Quentin Everman scored the Bears only other run.  [Box Score]
 
March 18 vs. Campbellsville

Down 8-4 in the bottom of the 9th, the Shawnee State baseball team rallied to score five runs and defeat preseason No. 8 ranked Campbellsville University on Robin Hagen-Smith Day at Branch Rickey Park.  Senior Brian Ramey pinch hit for the Bears to start of the 9th inning and singled up the middle.  Sophomore Quentin Everman then singled to left center, advancing the runner to 3rd base.  The Bears loaded the bases, as sophomore Nick Ball walked, and then scored when sophomore Danny Gesick walked, bringing the Bears' first run of the inning in.  Junior Rickey Masson tied the game as he brought in all three runners on a double to left field.  He then scored the winning run as junior Phillip Butler hit a single to right center to win the game 9-8. Campbellsville got on the board first as they scored two runs in the 1st inning.  Gesick hit a homerun in the bottom on the first to get the Bears on the board.  The Tigers scored another run in the 2nd to extend their lead to 3-1.  In the bottom of the 2nd for the Bears, sophomore Jordan Maier singled to right field and then advanced to second base on a Campbellsville error.  Everman hit a double to right field, scoring Maier.  Ball followed with a double of his own to center field, scoring Everman, and then scored himself on a double by Masson to take the 4-3 lead.  Campbellsville regained the lead in the 3rd inning as they tallied two runs.  The Tigers extended their lead to 8-4 as they scored one run in the 5th and two more in the 6th.  The Bears' rallied in the 9th with no outs to win the game. Ricky Masson had a big day as they plate as he went 4-for-5, with 2 doubles and 4 RBI's.  Nick Ball and Quentin Everman each went 2-for-4, with a double for the Bears with 1 RBI.  Everman also scored 2 runs for Shawnee State.  [Box Score] Women's basketball coach Robin Hagen-Smith, who returned to Portsmouth this morning with her team after their great tournament run in Sioux City, Iowa, where the Bears played in the Championship game and were named NAIA Division II Runner-up,  threw out the first pitch of the ball game. 

 
March 6 & 7 @ Savannah College of Art and Design
Shawnee State lost three of a four game series against Savannah College of Art & Design.The Bears kept it close in two of their losses and collected 28 runs over the entire series. 

In game one, the Bears got their only run in the third inning when Quentin Everman was hit by a pitch.  Danny Gesick then singled advancing Everman to third.  Two batters later, first baseman Brian Ramey drove in Everman on an RBI single to make it 1-0.  The Bears led all the way to the seventh inning.  Bears pitcher Andrew Carter struck out SCAD's second baseman Milian to open up the inning.  Carter then walked the next batter in the order.  Stewart Jr. came into pinch run and scored on the single by Goodson and the error by Gesick.  Goodson also advanced to second on the error.  Adam Wamsley then came in to relieve Carter on the mound.  Wamsley then threw a wild pitch which allowed Goodson to score and win the game at 2-1.  Danny Gesick went 2-3 at the plate and Brian Ramey went 1-3 with an RBI.  SCAD's Shackleford got the victory and pitched all seven innings and allowed four hits and one run.  Carter was tagged with the loss.  He pitched six and a third innings of and gave up three hits and two unearned runs.

In game two,   the Bears got on the board early when Ramey, who had singled, and Zach Byler, who had walked, both advanced to second and third off of the sacrifice bunt By Nick Ball.  Kyle Hammontree then reached on an error, advancing Byler to third and scoring Ramey.  Jordan Maier then reached on an error by the pitcher Schlosser, which resulting in Byler scoring and the Bears going up 2-0.  SCAD answered back in the bottom of the second when Bear's pitcher Adam Hatton walked Yoder and hit Zajac to put them on first and second base.  Hatton then struck out Shambaugh as both runners stole second and third base.  Stewart Jr. then drove both runners in on a double and tying the game at 2 a piece.  SCAD added another run in the third off of the RBI single by Braswell.  Shawnee got the offense rolling again in the fourth when Nick Ball walked and Hammontree singled, which put runners first and second.  Both Ball and Hammontree advanced a base on the sacrifice bunt by Maier.Camden Sauls then reached on an error by the pitcher and scored both Ball and Hammontree and made the score 4-3.  SCAD came back in the sixth inning when Zajac singled off of relief pitcher Jordan Williams.  Parker then came in to pinch run for Zajac and advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Shambaugh and a wild pitch by Williams.  DeYoung then doubled in Parker for an RBI.  Stewart Jr. came back in to pinch run for DeYoung.  Williams struck out Cioffi.  Stewart Jr. then stole third base before Zach Brooks came in to relieve Williams.  Brooks then gave up a single to Goodson which scored Stewart Jr. and won the game with a score of 5-4.  Brian Ramey went 2-3 with a run and Kyle Hammontree went 1-3 with a run and a RBI.  Donaldson got the victory for SCAD and Williams was tagged with the loss for the Bears.

The Bears came back in game three with the most offense they have displayed all year.  Seven Bears contributed hits and four of them had multiple hits during the game.  The Bears had 13 runs off of 12 hits.  Both teams displayed massive offensive talent back and forth throughout the game.  Going into the seventh inning, the Bears were down 9-10 and Brian Ramey singled.  Camden Sauls came in to pinch run for Ramey.  Zach Byler then walked putting runners on first and second.  Kyle Hammontree then advanced both runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt.  Both Quentin Everman and Nick Ball were walked which scored Sauls.  All three runners advanced on the wild pitch by Waterhouse, which scored Byler.  Adam Wamsley then singled in Everman and advanced Ball to third.  Danny Gesick then reached on the error by second baseman Milian, allowing Ball to score and Shawnee winning the game 13-10.  Nick Ball went 1-4 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs.  Adam Wamsley went 3-4 with 2 RBIs and 3 runs.  Philip Butler went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a run.  Danny Gesick also went 2-5 with a RBI and a run.  Jordan Williams got the victory for Shawnee while Waterhouse was tagged with the loss.

In the final game of the series, Shawnee led the game with a score of 10-5 going into the bottom of the sixth inning.  SCAD brought out the hitting power and got 10 hits off of four different Bear pitchers in the inning.  They compiled 13 runs to go up 18-10 and keep the Bears from splitting the series.  Danny Gesick went 3-4 for the Bears with a double and three runs.  Zach Byler went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and one run.  Kyle Hammontree also went 2-3 with 2 RBIs and one run.  Apuzzo got the win for SCAD while Zach Brooks was tagged with the loss for Shawnee.

 
March 2 vs. Rio Grande
Down 3-2 in the 9th the Bears rallied to tie the game and send it into extra innings, where the Bears would go onto to win.  The University of Rio Grande had a 3-0 lead after five innings, but the Bears scored two runs in the 7th innings to close the gap.  Junior Zach Byler started the inning off with a walk and then advanced to 3rd on a single to center field by sophomore Nick Ball.  Junior Ricky Masson hit a single through the middle, bringing both runs in and putting the Bears on the board.  Shawnee State then scored a run in the 9th to tie the game and send it into extra innings.  Freshman Colin Keim got it going for the Bears as he single to left field.  With two outs, freshman and pinch runner Jordan Stum scored the tying run on an error by Rio Grande's outfield.  In the 10th inning with two outs, senior Kyle Hammontree hit a double to right field, scoring sophomore Jordan Maier and giving the Bears the 4-3 victory.  Sophomore Adam Wamsley (2-0) got the win for the Bears as he pitched the 10th innings allowing no hits and had 1 strike out.  Austin Dunfee started the game for the Bears, pitching 3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits, with 1 walk, and 1 strike out.  Tyler Schunk was tagged with the loss for the RedStorm as he allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, while striking out 4 batters. February 19 & 20 @ University of the Cumberlands

The Bears opened play on Friday as they defeated the Patriots 12-7.  Cumberlands got on the board first as they scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning.  The Bears answered back scoring 3 in the 3rd and then tied the game at 5 apiece as they scored 2 more in the 4th.  The Patriots regained the lead in the inning as they scored 1 run.  In the 6th inning, the Bears rallied as junior Phillip Butler hit a two-run homerun to put the Bears back on top.  Senior Brian Ramey then followed with double down left line.  Freshman Camden Sauls came into pinch run for Ramey and he then scored on a Patriot error, giving the Bears the 8-6 lead.  Cumberlands scored another run in the 6th, but Shawnee State sealed the win as they capped the 7th inning off scoring 4 more runs.  Sophomore Zach Brooks got the win for the Bears as he came in during the 6th allowing 1 run (earned), on 1 hit, striking out 1.  Sophomore Andrew Carter started the game for the Bears pitching 3 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 3 batters.  Freshman Jordan Williams pitched 2 innings allowing 2 earned run on 4 hits and struck out 1 batter.  Ryan Bennett was credited with the loss as he pitched 3 innings, allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on five hits. In game 2 of the series, it took extra innings for the Bears to pick up the 6-5 victory.  Shawnee State tallied one run in the first as sophomore Adam Wamsley tripled to open the game.  He then scored on a groundout by sophomore Danny Gesick.  The Bears scored 3 more runs in the 3rd, as Butler doubled into deep right, bringing in 2 runners.  Everman then scored, giving the Bears the 4-0 lead, on a single by junior Zach Byler.  Wamsley hit a homerun in the 4th, creating the 5-0 advantage for the Bears, however the Patriots rallied back as they scored 1 run in the 5th and 4 runs in the 6th to knot the game at 5 apiece.  Play was suspended due to darkness after 6 innings.  On Saturday play resumed and it took 8 innings for the Bears to come away with the victory.  Senior Kyle Hammontree got things rolling as he opened the 8th inning with a single.  He then advantaged to third on a bunt sacrifice by sophomore Jordan Maier.  Hammontree then scored on a double by Wamsley.  Wamsley, who was credited with the win, did not allow any Patriots' runs in the 8th to give the Bears the 6-5 win.  Wamsley pitched the final 3 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 2 hits.  He had 3 strikeouts in the game and allowed 2 walks.  Sophomore Kyle Compton started the game for the Bears, allowing 4 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 4.  Sophomore Austin Dunfee pitched 1 inning for the Bears allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits.  Cumberlands' Sean Mahley got the loss as he pitched 2 innings allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits. Shawnee State fell in game 3 by a score of 12-2.  The Bears opened the game up with a triple by Wamsley.  Wamsley then scored on a groundout by Butler.  Shawnee State couldn't not get things rolling as they did not score again until the 6th inning.  U of C scored every inning but the 3rd.  Senior Adam Hatton was tagged with the loss as he pitched 3.1 innings allowing 6 runs (5 earned), 3 walks, while striking out 2.  Junior Greg Kettel pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing 5 earned runs on 4 hits and struck out 1 batter.  [Box Score]

The Bears came back and won game 4 by a score of 5-3.  Sauls scored the first run for the Bears as he scored on a sacrifice fly by Everman.  Cumberlands' Devin Hicks hit a homerun in the 2nd to knot the game.  Cumberlands then took the lead in the 4th on Tyler Schnebelt scored on a single by Josh Wood.  In the 5th inning, SSU's Everman scored on a wild pitch by Paul Bowers to tie the game.  SSU's Brooks came into pitch in the 5th and the University of the Cumberlands loaded the bases.  Brooks only allowed 1 run in the inning as Evan Bennett scored on a fielder's choice.  The Bears answered in the 6th, as Hammontree started in the inning with a double to left center.  Paul Zalar then hit a sacrifice bunt to advance Hammontree to third base.  Everman then singled to left field, scoring Hammontree and knotting the game at 3-3.  It would take 9 innings for the Bears to get the win.  Ramey hit a two-run homerun in the 9th on a 0-0 count to give the Bears the advantage.  Freshman Jordan Williams held off the Patriots in the 9th to give the Bears the victory.  Williams was tagged with the win as the pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.  Dunfee started the game for the Bears allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 3 batters in 4 innings.  Brooks pitched 2.1 innings on the mound, allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 1 batter.  U of C's Andy King got the loss as he allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits in 3 innings pitched.  [Box Score]
