April 30 @ Miami-Hamilton

Shawnee State closed out the 2008 season with an 11-8 victory over Miami-Hamilton.  Jonathon Venters (7-4) worked the 2.2 innings to pick up the win.  He struck out three in the game giving him a school-record 66 on the season.  Justin Craft worked the final inning to pick up his 2nd save of the season.  Shawnee State had 12 hits in the game including 3 from Billy Stump and 2 each from Logan Crabtree, Brian Ramey, and Jeremy Blackston.  Stump scored 4 runs in the game and Blackston added 3 RBI.  [Box Score]

 
April 27 vs. Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State Baseball Team lost a double-header to Ohio Dominican to complete league action.  Shawnee State lost the opener 12-2.  Zac Alexander was tagged with the loss as he pitched 4 inning and allowed 7 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, 1 walks, and had 3 strike outs.  Phillip Holt pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed 5 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits, and retired 3 batters.  Jeff Case pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed 1 hit.  Chris Smith got the win for ODU as he pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 4 batters.  Corey Fischer was 2-for-2 in the game for the Bears. [Box Score]  Shawnee State lost the night-cap 5-4.  Adam Hatton was tagged with the loss as he pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed 5 runs on 10 hits and 1 walk.  Ryan Fairley pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing 1 walk while striking out 1.  Jonathan Venters pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed 2 hits.  Ryan Robowski got the win as he pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits, 2 walks, and had 3 strike outs.  Zane Miller pitched 3 innings and allowed 2 hits, 1 walk, and had 2 strike outs.  Bryan Doberdruk was 3-for-4 in the game with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.  Billy Stump was 2-for-3 at the plate. April 22 @ Cedarville

Shawnee State split a double-header at Cedarville University.  Shawnee State lost the opener 2-0.  The Bears managed just 4 hits in the game, all of them singles.  Cedarville's runs came with 2 outs in the second inning.  The Yellow Jackets loaded the bases on three singles.  Phil Cruz's fly ball to centerfield was booted to allow 2 runs to score.  Zac Alexander (0-4) took the loss for the Bears.  Jared Griest (1-4) picked up the win for the Yellow Jackets.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State won the night-cap 9-3 behind a trio of three-run innings.  The Bears scored in the first, second, and fifth innings.  Zac Alexander was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.  Drew Howard had a double, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored.  Billy Stump also had two RBI.  Adam Hatton (4-1) got the win as he allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits.  Colbu Stoltzfus (1-5) took the loss as he allowed 6 runs in 1.1 innings of work.  [Box Score]

 
April 20 vs. Urbana @ Chillicothe

Shawnee State split a double-header with Urbana in Chillicothe.  Urbana won the opener on Sunday 2-1.  The Bears led 1-0 after 6.2 innings.  Urbana's Michael Heck reached on an error.  A pair of singles followed and gave the Blue Knights a 2-1 win.  Shawnee State managed just one hit in the game, a triple by Zac Alexander. [Box Score]  Shawnee State avoided the series sweep with a 5-4 win in the night-cap.  Jonathon Venters picked up the complete-game win as he allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 8.0 innings.  Bryan Doberdruk came to the plate with one out and the bases loaded in the eighth inning.  Urbana shortstop Matt Murphy booted Doberdruk's ground ball and allowed Tim Steflik to score the winning run.  [Box Score]

 
April 18 @ Urbana

Shawnee State lost a double-header at Urbana University.  The Bears lost the opener on Friday by a score of 16-11.  Urbana jumped out early with a 7-run first inning only to see Shawnee State respond with a 9-run second inning.  Shawnee State's lead was short-lived as Urbana put 4 more runs on the board in their half of the second.  Bryan Doberdruk led off the third inning with a single and Drew Howard followed with his second homerun of the game to tie the game at eleven.  Urbana scored once in the bottom of the inning, three times in the fourth, and once in the sixth for the final margin.  Adam Hatton started for the Bears and gave up 11 runs (5 earned) in 1.2 innings.  Greg Kettle (0-1) took the loss as he gave up the game winning run in the third inning.  Drew Howard was 2-for-4 with a pair of homeruns and 6 RBI in the contest.  Brian Ramey was 3-for-4.  Billy Stump was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.  [Box Score]  The night-cap Friday was suspended due to darkness with Urbana leading 17-13 in the top of the fifth inning.  Urbana held on to win 17-15 as the game was completed in Chillicothe prior to Sunday's double-header.  Shawnee State had held a 9-3 lead before Urbana exploded for an 11-run third inning.  Billy Stump was 4-for-5 in the game with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.  Zac Alexander, Logan Crabtree, and Corey Fischer each had a pair of hits.  [Box Score]

 
April 15 vs. Cedarville

Shawnee State swept a double-header with Cedarville University. Shawnee State won the first game 6-1.  Justin Craft got the win as he pitched a complete game and allowed 1 run on 5 hits and 3 walks.  He retired 9 batters in the game.  Tyler Rost was tagged with the loss as he pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed 3 runs, all of which were unearned, on 6 hits.  Nathan Wallace pitched 1 1/3 innings for the Yellow Jackets and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, 4 walks, and had 1 strike out.  Zac Alexander was 3-for-4 in the game with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.  Cory Pallutch was 2-for-2 in the game and Drew Howard added a double for the Bears.  [Box Score]  After a 7th inning rally from Cedarville to take a 6-5 lead, Shawnee State rebounded and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game.  In the bottom of the 7th with two outs in the game, Billy Stump hit a single which allowed Justin Craft to score the winning run.  Ryan Fairley got the win as he pitched 1/3 of the 7th inning.  Jonathan Venters worked 6 2/3 innings and allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits.  Drew Howard was 3-for-3 in the game with a double and a RBI.  Justin Craft was 2-for-4 in the game with a double and 2 RBI’s. April 12 @ Walsh

Shawnee State lost a double-header at Walsh University.  Shawnee State lost the opener 9-3.  The Bears fell behind early giving up 3 runs in each of the first two innings.  Drew Howard was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's.  Justin Craft was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI.  As a team the Bears had 7 hits in the game.  Phillip Holt took the loss as he gave up 8 runs on 9 hits through 4.0 innings.  Walsh's Jason Pettigrew drove in 7 runs with a pair of homeruns and singles.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State led the night-cap 6-5 in the 7th inning.  Ryan Fairly retired the first two batters before surrendering 2 consecutive walks.  He was relieved by Jeff Case who walked the only batter he faced.  Jonathon Venters came in for Case and allowed the tying run on a wild pitch.  New Boston's Matt Marshall then singled home the winning run.  Drew Howard was 2-for-3 in the game with 4 RBI's.  [Box Score]

 
April 10 @ Point Park

Shawnee State split a double-header at Point Park College.  Shawnee State lost the opener 7-2.  Justin Craft (1-6) got the start for the Bears but was touched up for 7 runs on 8 hits and 5 walks through just 1.2 innings.  Justin Gregory and Jeff Case combined to pitch the remainder of the game and gave up just 2 hits between them.  The Bears offense managed just 2 hits in the contest.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State won the night-cap 11-5.  Jonathon Venters gave up 5 runs off 5 hits in the first inning, but settled in to scatter 5 hits over the next 4.0 innings.  Greg Kettle and Ryan Fairley each worked a hitless inning.  Shawnee State mounted a 2-out rally in the 5th inning to turn a 5-3 deficit into a 10-5 lead.  Billy Stump tied the game with a 2 RBI single with the bases loaded.  A wild pitch, a balk, and a base on balls led to 3 more runs before Justin Gregory smacked a 2 RBI single to score Bryan Doberdruk and Corey Fishcer. April 8 @ Rio Grande

Shawnee State swept a double-header at Rio Grande.  Shawnee State jumped on top early in the opener with 2 runs in the 1st inning.  Bryan Doberdruk and Jeremy Blackston started the game with back-to-back singles to centerfield.  Dobedruk later scored on a balk.  Blackston scored one out later on a fielder's choice by Justin Craft.  The Bears scored twice in the 4th inning on an RBI double by Logan Crabtree and an RBI single by Brian Ramey.  Craft added an RBI single in the 5th and Zac Alexander had a two RBI double.  Adam Hatton (3-0) picked up the win as he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 4 and striking out three through 6.0 innings.  Ryan Fairley worked a scoreless 7th inning.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State score 4 runs to open the night-cap only to give up 3 runs to Rio Grande in the bottom of the 1st.  Shawnee State came back with 2 runs in the second and 1 run in the third inning.  The Bears' lead was short lived as Rio Grande put up three runs in the 3rd and 4th innings to take a 9-7 lead.  Shawnee State responded with 3 runs in the top of the 5th.  Corey Fischer reached after being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  He stole second and scored on a one-out error off the bat of Jeremy Blackston.  Justin Craft hit a two-run homerun which put the Bears on top for good.  Jonathon Venters (4-3) picked up the win in relief.  He gave up 1 hit in 1 1/3 innings.  Justin Craft worked the final 2/3 of an inning for his first save of the year.  Craft had 3 hits, 3 RBI, and scored 2 runs.  Logan Crabtree was 2-for-5 with and RBI.  [Box Score]

 
April 5 vs. Malone

Shawnee State lost a double-header to Mount Vernon.  Shawnee State lost the first game 1-13 in 5 innings. Cory Pallutch pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 run (1 earned) on 2 hits and struck out 1 batter. Greg Kettle pitched 1 inning and had 2 strikeouts. Caleb Wright got the win as he allowed 1 run (unearned) on 5 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 2. April 1 vs. Rio Grande

Shawnee State swept a double-header with Rio Grande on Tuesday afternoon.  Shawnee State improves to 8-14 overall and 3-1 in AMC action.  Rio Grande falls to 13-12 overall and 1-3 in conference.  Shawnee State won the first game 3-2 in 14 innings.  Jonathan Venters got the win as he pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 9 hits, 1 walk, and struck out a career-high 10 batters.  Justin Craft pitched 7.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 5 walks, and had 6 strikeouts.  Zac Alexander had 2 hits in the game with a double and scored 2 runs, and had 1 RBI in the game.  Logan Crabtree had a double in the game for the Bears.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State won the second game 3-2.  In the bottom of the 7th inning with two outs and a runner on first base, Justin Craft hit a double to centerfield allowing Drew Howard to score the winning run.  Craft was 4-for-4 in the game.  Howard was 2-for-3 in the game with 2 RBI’s.  [Box Score]

 
March 29 vs. Notre Dame

Shawnee State split a double header with Notre Dame.  Shawnee State lost the first game 4-9. Justin Craft was tagged with the loss as he pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits, 1 walk, while striking out 4. Ryan Fairley pitched 1 innings and had 1 strike out. Greg Kettle allowed 1 run and 1 walk. Jeff Case allowed 1 run on 1 hit. Jonathan Venters pitched 1 inning and allowed 2 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits. Chris Balmert got the win for Notre Dame. He pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits, 1 walk and struck out 3 batters. Tony Canzoni pitched the final inning for the Falcons and allowed 1 walk.  Drew Howard went 3-for-3 in the game, tallied 1 RBI, and scored 2 runs for the Bears. Shawnee State lost to NCAA Division II Northern Kentucky by a score of 1-13.  Corey Pallutch was tagged with the loss as he pitched 2 innings and allowed 3 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits.  Ryan Fairly pitched 2 innings and allowed 1 run (1 earned) on 2 hits and struck out 2 batters.  Greg Kettle pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 hits and struck out 1.  Tim Steflik alloed 2 runs (2 earned) on no hits and 2 walks.  Jeff Case pitched 1 inning and allowed 2 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits while striking out 1 batter.  Zac Alexander pitched 1 inning and gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 1.  Drew Howard had a double in the game and scored the Bears' only run.  Billy Stump and Corey Fischer each added a double in the game.  [Box Score]

Shawnee State defeated Walsh University 6-4.  Jonathan Venters got the win as he pitched a complete game and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 4 batters.  Logan Crabtree was 2-for-3 in the game with 2 RBI’s and Justin Craft was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. March 16 vs. Indiana Tech

Shawnee State lost to Indiana Tech 5-2.  Justin Craft was tagged with the loss as he pitch 6 innings and allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 1.  Jeff Case pitched the final inning allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 1 batter.  Kyle Bolton got the win as he pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and striking out 3.  Bryan Doberdruk was 2-for-3 in the game with a homerun.  Drew Howard was 2-for-3 with a double.  [Box Score]

 
March 13 vs. Earlham (@ Cincinnati)

Shawnee State dropped a double-header to Earlham College.  Earlham used a 3-run 7th inning to over come a 5-3 deficit and win game 1.  Zac Alexander took the loss as he allowed all 3 runs (2 earned) in the inning without retiring a batter.  Brian Ramey had 3 hits and 2 RBI in the game.  Jeremy Blackston, Logan Crabtree, and Billy Stump had 2 hits apiece.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State lost 15-14 in a 12-inning slugfest in game 2.  The Bears jumped out early with a 5-run first inning.  Earlham scored 4 in the second and 2 in the third to pull within a run.  SSU put another 5-spot on the board in the fourth inning to take a 10-4 lead.  The lead was short lived as Earlham took a 12-11 lead with over the next two innings.  Zac Alexander took the loss as worked the final five innings.  He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits.  Bryan Doberdruk was 4-for-7 with 2 runs and 2 RBI.  Brian Ramey was 4-for-6 with 5 RBI.  Justin Craft and Drew Howard had 3 hits apiece.  Zac Alexander, Billy Stump, and Cory Pallutch had 2 hits each.  [Box Score]

Shawnee State lost a 7-2 decision to the University of Dayton at Athletes in Action Field in Xenia.  Dayton jumped on Shawnee State early with a 3-run first inning.  Shawnee State closed the gap to 3-1 in the third inning as Justin Craft singled home Jeremy Blackston.  Dayton extended the lead to 4-1 with another run in the sixth inning.  The Bears' final run in the game came in the seventh inning as Blackston singled home Billy Stump.  Dayton put the game away with a three-run eighth inning.  Justin Craft (0-2) took the loss for the Bears as he allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits over 5.1 innings.  Blackston was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.  Bryan Doberdruk, Justin Craft, and Billy Stump had 2 hits apiece.  [Box Score]

Shawnee State split a double-header with St. Francis.  Shawnee State lost the first game 6-10.  Philip Holt was tagged with the loss as allowed 8 run on 9 hits, 1 walk, and struck one out in 3 1/3 innings.  Justin Gregory pitched 2 2/3 innings for the Bears and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, 1 walk and struck out 4 batters.  Jeff Case pitched the last inning and allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.  Matt Degitz got the win for the Cougars as he pitched 4 innings and allowed 6 runs on 10 hits, 2 walks, and 1 strike out.  Brian Ramey was 2-for-3 in the game and Justin Craft had a double for the Bears.  [Box Score]  Shawnee State won the second game 9-2.  Adam Hatton got the win as he pitched 5 innings and allowed 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3.  Greg Kettle pitched 1 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits.  Cory Pallutch pitched the final innings and struck out 1 batter.  Nate Long was tagged with the loss as he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits while walking 2.  Zac Alexander was 4-for-4 in game with 2 triples and a double.  Billy Stump had a double for the Bears.  [Box Score]

 
March 1 vs. St. Francis

Shawnee State lost to St. Francis 1-2.  Jonathon Venters was tagged with the loss as pitched the entire game and gave up 2 runs on 5 hits, 3 walks, while striking out 5.  Bart Schnur got the win as he allowed 1 run on 6 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 6.  Zac Alexander had a double in the game for the Bears. March 1 vs. Spring Arbor

Shawnee State lost to Spring Arbor by a score of 4-6.  Justin Craft was tagged with the loss as he allowed 5 runs (1 earned) on 1 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 6 batters in 4 2/3 innings.  Justin Gregory allowed 1 run on 1 hit and 2 walks.  Ryan Fairley pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and allowed 2 hits and struck out 1.  Mark Fransen got the win for the Cougars as he pitched 1 inning, giving up no runs and walking 2.  Brian Ramey was 1-for-3 in the game with a double and RBI.
