Shawnee State defeated Alice Lloyd 5-4 in what was supposed to be
game 1 of a double-header. The nightcap was cancelled due to
rain. Shawnee State took a quick
lead as Zac Shoaf led off the game with a single and was promptly
doubled home by Brian Doberdruk. Alice Lloyd tied the game in
the bottom of the second inning on a run scoring single by Robert
Smith. The Bears scored again in the third and twice in the
fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Alice Lloyd plated three runs in the
bottom of the fifth and SSU's Nick Collins was replaced on the mound
by Jonathon Venters. The game was tied 4-4 heading into the
seventh inning. SSU's Justin Craft led off the inning with a double.
He moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by RJ Niemer. Designated
hitter Brian Ramey singled to drive home Craft. Alice Lloyd
threatened in the seventh as Lamar Williams reached on an error to
lead off the inning. Venters struck out the next two batters
before giving up a single. He retired the final batter on a
fly ball to right field. Doberdruk had 3 hits and an RBI and
scored 2 runs for Shawnee State. Justin Craft had 2 hits, 1
RBI, and scored 1 run. Jonathon Venters (1-1) picked up the
win for the Bears. Lamar Williams had 2 hits, 1 RBI, and
