Coach's Comments -- "Matt continues to get stronger every year.  He has an exploding fastball that eats up right-handed hitters.  Thompson dazzled us his freshman year on his way to All-Conference honors.  If he can set up hitters a bit better, he can return to that status.  He also has a really good chance to earn Academic All-American honors."

2005 Season -- In 11 pitching appearances, Matt posted a 4-6 record and an ERA of 4.31.  He led the Bears with 54.1 innings pitched and 54 strikeouts.  He Honorable Mention All-AMC and was named Academic All-Conference and Academic All-American.

2004 Season -- Matt struggled through somewhat of a sophomore slump during the 2004 season.  He posted a 2-5 record with a 7.51 ERA.  He had 3 complete games including a 7-5 win over Rio Grande on March 7.  He struck out a season-high 6 batters as he allowed 5 runs on 12 hits. 

2003 Season -- Matt posted a 4-1 record in 10 appearances as a freshman.   His best game came in a 2-0 shutout over Buena Vista.  He allowed just 5 hits over 7 innings and struck out 5 batters.

Ridgemont High School – Matt earned letters in baseball, basketball, and golf at Ridgemont High School he served as team captain in all three sports.  He helped lead his team to a 20-6 record his senior year in baseball and was named League MVP.
