April 29-30 @ Cedarville

Shawnee State split a four-game series at Cedarville University.  Shawnee State won the first game 11-1 in five innings.  Jonathon Venters (4-3) picked up the complete-game victory.  He allowed just 1 unearned run on 1 hit and 2 walks.  Shawnee State had two hits apiece from Dan Wysong, Jared Perdue, and Justin Craft.  Craft had a double, triple, and 3 RBI.  Perdue and Nathan Timberlake had 2 RBI each.  Cedarville bounced back with a 10-3 victory in Game 2.  Kent Kobayashi (1-1) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed 7 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in 3.0 innings.  Phillip Holt allowed 4 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks in 3.0 innings.  Dan Wysong and Nathan Timberlake each had 2 hits and scored a run.  Cedarville won Game 3 of the series by a score of 8-1.  Matt Thompson (4-6) took the loss.  He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 walk in 5.0 innings.  Matt Craft allowed 5 runs without retiring a batter in the sixth inning.  Nick Collins worked the final inning and allowed 1 hit and 1 walk.  SSU had just 6 hits in the game.  Dan Wysong was 2-3 with a double and a homerun.  Shawnee State pounded out 19 hits in the the series finale and won 16-0 in 5 innings.  Tom Spille (6-3) picked up the win.  He allowed just 3 hits and struck out two.  Jeff Tillman was 4-4 with 5 RBI and 2 runs scored.  Dan Wysong, Justin Craft, Dan Wiemer, and Nathan Timberlake had 3 hits apiece. 

 
April 17 @ Ohio Dominican

Ohio Dominican won the final two games of the season series with Shawnee State. ODU won Game 3  6-5 in eight innings.  Matt Thompson (4-4) took the loss.  He worked seven plus innings and allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 8 hits and 3 walks.  SSU had just 7 hits in the game including a double by Jared Perdue and a triple by Jeff Tillman.  The Panthers whipped the Bears 13-6 in the final game of the series.  ODU jumped all over Seth Morrison (3-1) as he allowed 9 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits and 2 walks in 1 2/3 innings.  ODU out hit SSU 13-9 in the game.  Ryan Rowland, Justin Craft, and Cody Piguet collected 2 hits apiece.  Jared Perdue and Nathan Timberlake drove in 2 runs each.

 
April 16 @ Ohio Dominican

Shawnee State won the opening game of a four-game set with Ohio Dominican 6-3.  Tom Spille (5-2) picked up the win.  He allowed just 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.  Shawnee State picked up 8 hits in the game including 2 each from Justin Craft, Jared Perdue, and Matt Craft.  Ohio Dominican won Game 2 of the series by a score of 6-1.  Jonathon Venters (3-2) was tagged with the loss.  He gave up 6 runs on 9 hits and 1 walk in just 2 2/3 innings.  John Rypel worked the final 3 1/3 innings and allowed just 2 ODU hits.  SSU managed just 5 hits in the game compared to 11 by ODU.  Shawnee State’s lone run came on an RBI single by Jeff Tillman in the sixth inning.

  
April 13 vs. Georgetown

Shawnee State swept a double-header from Georgetown College.  Shawnee State won the opener 4-0.  Matt Thompson (4-3) picked up the complete game shutout.  He allowed 4 hits and no walks while striking out seven.  Shawnee State scored 2 runs in the second inning on a bases loaded single by Nathan Timberlake.  SSU plated 2 more runs in the fifth thanks to a couple of hits and an Georgetown error.  Shawnee State won the night cap 6-2.  Jeff Tillman (2-1) picked up the win for the Bears.  He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk while striking out four.  Dan Wysong was 3 for 3 with a run scored.  Nathan Timberlake was 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI.  Jared Perdue hit his 8th homerun of the year.

 
April 12 vs. Pikeville

Shawnee State swept a double-header from Pikeville College by scores of 6-3 and 14-4.  Jonathon Venters (3-1) picked up the win in the opener.  He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks.  Brandon Longacre pitched the final 2 innings to record his first save of the season.  Jeff Tillman was 3 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.  Nathan Timberlake was 2 for 3 with a triple, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored.   Kent Kobayashi picked up his first collegiate win in the night cap.  He allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks.  Ryan Rowland was 4 for 4 in the game with 2 doubles, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored.  Jeff Tillman was 2 for 3 with a homerun and 5 RBI.  Dan Wysong was 2 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.  Shawnee State belted out 11 hits and drew 8 walks.

 
April 10 vs. Tiffin

Shawnee State split a double header with Tiffin University.  Tiffin won the opening game by a score of 9-1.  Mark Verkest (3-1) picked up the win for Tiffin as he allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings of work.  Matt Thompson (3-3) allowed 7 runs (6 earned) on 9 hits and 5 walks in 5 2/3 innings for SSU.  Dan Wysong’s sacrifice fly in the second inning scored Jared Perdue for the Bears’ only run in the game. 

SSU rebounded with a 9-4 in Game Two.  Seth Morrison (3-0) picked up the win for the Bears.  He allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits in 4 2/3 innings.  Jeff Tillman worked the final 2 1/3 innings to pick up his first save of the season.  He did not allow a baserunner while recording 3 strikeouts.  Tillman also had 3 hits, 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored.  Dan Wiemer, Justin Craft, and R. J. Niemer had 2 hits apiece.  Craft drove in 3 runs and scored two.

 
April 9 vs. Tiffin

Shawnee State split the opening double-header of a four-game set with Tiffin University.  SSU won the opener by a score of 8-4.  Tom Spille (4-2) got the complete-game win for the Bears as he allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 2 walks.  Shawnee State scored 3 runs in the third and 4 in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead.  Tiffin rallied with 4 in the fifth.  Shawnee State had 13 hits in the game including 3 each for Dan Wysong and Jeff Tillman.  Jared Perdue, Ryan Rowland, and Nathan Timberlake had 2 hits apiece.  SSU had doubles from Wysong, Perdue, Tillman, and Andy Malone.  Tillman had a triple and Nathan Timberlake hit his first homerun of the season.  Tiffin won game-two 3-1 in eight innings.  Shawnee State took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jeff Tillman scored from 3rd on a double-steal.  Tiffin tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single by Chris Rothwell.  Rothwell hit a two-run homerun off of Matt Craft (0-1) in the top of the eighth inning.  Jonathon Venters started the game for SSU.  He worked 5 2/3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 4 walks.  Kurt Thompson (4-2) scattered 5 hits over 8 innings to pick up the win for the Dragons.

 
April 6 @ Morehead State

Shawnee State lost to Morehead State University 17-5.  Justin Craft (0-2) took the loss for the Bears.  He gave up 9 runs (7 earned) on 8 hits and 6 walks.  John Rypel gave up 7 runs on 7 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.  Matt Clark (1-1) got the win as the Eagles used 8 pitchers on the afternoon.  Clark allowed 1 hit and 1 walk in 1 inning of work.   MSU scored 7 runs in the second inning and eventually took a 14-0 lead before Shawnee State scored 2 runs in the sixth.  Dan Wiemer was 3-4 on the day for SSU.  Jeff Tillman and Dan Wysong had 2 hits apiece.  Tillman had a double, homerun, and 2 RBI’s.

 
April 5 @ Urbana

Shawnee State swept an AMC double-header from Urbana University.  Shawnee State won the opener 8-6.  Matt Thompson (3-2) picked up the win.  He gave up 6 runs on 6 hits and 5 walks in 6 1/3 innings.  John Rypel nailed down the final two outs of the seventh to pick up his first save of the season.  Doug Belden (0-4) took the loss.  He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits and 1 walk.  Dan Wiemer, Jared Perdue, Andy Malone, Jeff Tillman, and R. J. Niemer had 2 hits each in the game.  Both of Perdue’s hits were solo homeruns.   Malone, Niemer, and Justin Craft all homered for the Bears as well.  SSU won the night-cap 18-6. Seth Morrison (2-0) picked up the win.  He allowed 6 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks.  Brent Wales (0-1) took the loss.  He allowed 8 runs on 7 hits in two innings of work.  Justin Craft and Andy Malone had 3 hits each in the game.  Craft, Jared Perdue, Jeff Tillman, and Cody Piguet each had homeruns.

 
April 1 @ Urbana

Shawnee State swept an AMC double-header from Urbana University by scores of 12-3 and 8-1.   Tom Spille (3-2) picked up the win in the opener.  He allowed 3 runs on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out seven.  Jared Perdue had a career day as he went 4 for 4 at the plate with 4 runs scored, 1 double, 2 homeruns, and 8 RBI’s.  Nathan Timberlake was 3-4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.  Dan Wiemer and Justin Craft scored 2 runs each.  Doug Belden (0-3) took the loss for Urbana .   Jonathon Venters (2-1) got the win in Game 2.  He allowed just 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.  He struck out a career-high 9 batters.  SSU broke open a 1-1 game with a 7-run sixth inning.  Nathan Timberlake was 3-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.  Dan Wysong was 1-2 with 3 walks and 2 runs scored.  Andy Malone drove in 2 runs.

 
March 30 @ Indiana

Shawnee Sate lost to the Indiana Hoosiers 24-9.  Shawnee State trailed just 5-2 through 3 innings of play.  IU put together back-to-back 4-run innings in the 4th and 5th.  SSU rallied to cut the deficit to 13-6 before the Hoosiers belted out 11 runs in the 7th inning.  SSU added 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning to make the final score 24-9.  The Hoosiers collected 22 hits in the game and were aided by 13 walks allowed by Shawnee State pitchers.  Shawnee State had 15 hits in the game including homeruns by Justin Craft (4) and Cody Piguet (1).  Craft and Nathan Timberlake had 3 hits apiece.  Andy Malone had 2 hits in the game.  Matt Thompson (2-2) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed 5 runs on 5 hits and 5 walks in 3 innings of work.  Matt Saba (1-1) picked up the win for Indiana.

 
March 29 @ Pikeville

Shawnee State split a double-header with Pikeville College.  Pikeville won the opener 3-1.  Shawnee State took the night-cap 4-2.  Tom Spille (2-2) took the loss for the Bears as he gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in just 2 innings.  All of Pikeville’s runs came in the first.  Jonathon Venters and Phillip Holt combined to pitch 4 innings of 3-hit baseball to close out the game.  Shawnee State managed just 3 hits in the game, two singles by Dan Wysong and a double by Dan Wiemer.  Wiemer’s double in the second inning scored Kole Hargrave, who had reached on a Pikeville error, in the second inning.  Matt DeBlauw (3-2) picked up the win for Pikeville.  Seth Morrison, making his first appearance of the season, picked up the win in the night-cap.  He allowed 2 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks in 5 2/3 innings.  Matt Craft worked the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up his 3rd save of the season.   SSU got 2 hits in the game, including a solo homerun, from Jeff Tillman.  The Bears had a total of 7 hits on the day.  Andrew McCormick (3-4) took the loss for Pikeville.  

 
March 20 @ Charleston

Shawnee State split a double-header with the University of Charleston.  SSU won the opener 3-2 and lost the night-cap 8-6.  Jeff Tillman (1-1) picked up the win in the opener.  He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits over the course of 7 innings.  He He struck out 5 and allowed 2 walks.  Ryan Rowland led off the game with a triple to right center.  He scored on a sacrifice fly by Dan Wysong.  SSU added two more runs in the 4th inning.  Jared Perdue led off with a double.  He scored on a single to center by Andy Malone.  Malone later scored on a sac-fly by Dan Wiemer.  Freshman Kent Kobayashi got his first collegiate start.  He allowed 5 runs in 3 1/3 innings.  Nick Collins allowed 1 run in 1 2/3 innings of work.  Phillip Holt (0-1) took the loss as surrendered 2 runs in the 6th inning after the Bears had managed to tie the game at 6 in the top of the inning.  SSU had 2 hits, an RBI, and a run scored from Andy Malone.  Dan Wysong was 1-2 with 2 runs scored.  Justin Craft was 1-2 with a triple and a run scored. 

 
March 19 @ Rio Grande
Shawnee State split a double-header with Rio Grande by scores of 5-2 and 2-7.  Matt Thompson (2-1) picked up the complete game victory in the opener.  He allowed 2 unearned runs on 5 hits.  He struck out 9 batters while allowing just 2 walks.  Justin Craft and Ryan Rowland tagged a 2-run homerun each.  Craft's came in the top of the 1st and Rowland's was in the top of the 7th.  Justin Craft (0-1) took the loss in Game 2.  He allowed 4 runs on just 4 hits in 5 innings of work.  He surrendered 4 walks and 2 hit batters.  John Rypel allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th.  Craft was 2-3 with a homerun and 2 RBI.  Ryan Rowland was 2-3 with a double and a run scored.
 
March 18 @ Rio Grande
Shawnee Sate opened AMC play by losing 2 games at Rio Grande.  SSU lost the opener 9-2.  Tom Spille (2-1) took the loss as he allowed 6 runs 8 hits through 5 innings.  He allowed 4 walks and hit a batter.  He also recorded 4 strikeouts.  Soloman Alam (2-0) picked up the win for Rio Grande.  Kenta Sato worked the 6th and got Rio out of a bases loaded jam to pick up the save.  Shawnee State managed just 5 hits in the game.  Two came off the bat of Jeff Tillman.  SSU lost the night-cap 5-4.  Jonathon Venters (1-1) was tagged with the loss in the second game.  He gave up 2 runs in 4+ innings.  Rio Grande scored 3 insurance runs off of Matt Craft, all in the 5th inning.  Craft worked a scoreless 6th inning.  SSU put together a three-run 6th inning, but was unable to pull even.  Dustin Gibbs (4-1) picked up the win for Rio Grande. 
 
March 15 vs. Urbana

Shawnee State defeated Urbana University 6-4 in a non-conference match-up.  Shawnee State was playing its first game since February 26.  In order to get work for as many pitchers as possible, SSU coach, Tom Bergan, used a different pitcher in each inning.  The strategy worked well as the Bears held Urbana scoreless through five innings and held a 2-1 lead entering the 7th inning.  Brandon Longacre gave up 3 runs in the 7th on 2 hits, 1 walk, and 1 error but still managed to pick up the win to improve to 1-0 on the season.   Shawnee State rallied with 4 runs off of Doug Belden (0-1) in the bottom of the 7th.  R. J. Niemer started the inning with a double to right field followed by a walk to Dan Wysong.  Both advanced on a wild pitch.  Dan Wiemer reached on a fielder’s choice which allowed Niemer to score and Wysong to advance to third base.  Ryan Rowland’s suicide squeeze scored Wysong and tied the game.  A sacrifice fly to center field later in the inning scored Dan Wiemer to put the Bears up one.  Jeff Tillman singled to left to score Rowland and gave the Bears an insurance run.  

 
February 27 vs. Myers

Shawnee State swept a 3-game set from Myers University Shawnee State won the opener 5-1.  Tom Spille (2-0) picked up the win as he allowed 2 hits and struck out 2 batters over 4 innings.  SSU had 6 hits in the game including a double by Dan Wiemer and a triple by Justin Craft.  Jared Perdue swiped 3 bases in the game.   Shawnee State won game-two 10-0.  Matt Thompson (1-1) picked up his first win of the season as he allowed just 2 hits and two walks while striking out 2 batters in 4 innings of work.  Kent Kobayashi pitched a scoreless 5th inning allowing 1 walk and recording 1 strikeout.  Justin Craft and Andy Malone had 2 hits apiece.  Malone’s pair of doubles drove in 4 runs.  The Bears had 9 hits total in the game.   The Bears won the night cap 13-1.  Jonathon Venters (1-0) picked up his first his first collegiate victory allowing 1 run on 3 hits.  He walked 2 and struck out four.  Nick Collins and John Rypel each pitched 1 inning of no-hit baseball.  Justin Craft and Dan Wysong had 2 hits apiece for the Bears.  Wysong scored 2 runs and Craft had 2 RBI.  Craft and Jared Perdue each had homeruns in the game.  

 
February 19 vs. Mt. Mercy (@ Lambuth)
Shawnee State and Mt. Mercy played to an 8-8 tie before the game was suspended for darkness.  Justin Craft started the game for the Bears.  He allowed 6 earned runs on 6 hits and 7 walks in 3.2 innings.  Phillip Holt worked 1.1 innings allowing 2 runs and 3 hits and 2 walks.  John Rypel and Matt Craft worked 1 scoreless inning each.  Jared Perdue was 2-4 on the day with 3 RBI.  Matt Craft hit his first homerun of the season.  He was 4-4 on the day with 2 runs scored and an RBI.  Dan Wiemer was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.  
 
February 19 vs. Union (@ Lambuth)
Shawnee State lost to Union University 5-3.  Jeff Tillman gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 3 hits and 6 walks.  He also struck out 4 on the afternoon.  SSU managed just 3 hits in the game.  Ryan Rowland and Jared Perdue each had a single.  Dan Wysong had a double and a run scored. 
 
February 18 @ Lambuth
Shawnee State picked up its first win of the season with a 10-7 victory over Lambuth University.  Tom Spille picked up the win in his first outing since undergoing Tommy John surgery following the 2003 season.  Spille allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and 1 walk.  Kent Kobayashi allowed 3 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks without retiring a batter.  Matt Kraft retired the side in the 7th inning to pick up the save.  Justin Craft, Jeff Tillman, Jared Perdue, Dan Wiembe, and Kole Hargrave picked up 2 hits apiece in the game.  Perdue and Hargrave had 2 RBI each.
 
February 18 vs. Lindenwood (@ Lambuth)
Shawnee State opened the 2005 season with a 12-1 loss to Lindenwood University.  Matt Thompson took the loss as he allowed 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits and 5 walks over 3 innings.  Brandon Longacre gave up 6 runs in 2.1 innings of relief.  John Rypel gave up 1 run on 3 hits in 1.2 innings of work.  Shawnee State had just 3 hits in the game.  Two of the hits came off the bat of Justin Craft.
