#15 Mallory
Albers - Basketball
Albers, a
senior guard from Fort Loramie, Ohio is this week's SSU Female Athlete of the
Week. Albers led NAIA No. 5 Shawnee State as the Bears split a
pair of games at the Georgetown Habitat Classic over the
weekend. On Saturday, Albers poured in 29 points, as she went
8-for-10 from the floor, draining two three-pointers and hitting
11-for-15 from the line as the Bears defeated NAIA Div. I No. 2
ranked Lee University in overtime. She also pulled down two
rebounds, dished out two assists, and had two steals in the game.
On Sunday, Albers recorded a double-double as she scored 29 points
and pulled down 10 rebounds as the Bears fell short to host
Georgetown. Albers hit 11 -of-20 attempts from the floor in
the game, including five three-pointers, to go along with three
steals, one assist, one block. |

Volleyball
BEARS DOMINATED IN OPENING ROUND TO
ADVANCE TO SIOUX CITY
The Shawnee State volleyball team took care of business
as they dominated Union College in the Opening Round of the
NAIA National Tournament on Saturday evening. The
Bears won in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-12 to
win their 25th consecutive match this season. The
Bears will travel to
the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa;
location of the NAIA National Championship presented by
Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation December 1 through 5.
The Bears got off to a bit of a slow start
as they trailed 9-7, but the Bears rallied behind junior
Tiffany Dailey as she served seven straight points.
After the Bears regained the lead, they never looked back as
the took the set 25-19. Shawnee State controlled the
next two matches as they won 25-13 and 25-12.
Shawnee State had a great night
offensively as the Bears only committed three errors at the
net. Junior Heather Koehler had a stellar night at the
net as she had 15 kills, of 25 attempts with only two
errors. Senior Megan Wills added eight kills with only
one error. Junior Jami Turrill and freshman Kim Rosen
added five kills and junior Chelsea Howard added four kills.
Junior Haley Halcomb set up 34 assists for
the Bears and lead the Bears with 11 digs. Howard
added nine digs and junior Tiffany Dailey and Koehler added
seven digs.
Union was led by Amelia Cantrell and
Brooke Vinovich's eight kill performance. Monica
Morgan tallied 25 assists for the Bulldogs. Amanda
Silva added 12 digs for Union College. [Box

BEARS EARN AMC HONORS;
HALCOMB NAMED SETTER OF THE YEAR/KAMER COACH OF YEAR
The Shawnee State volleyball team, which has accumulated
a list of achievements this season, adds another to their
resume as six Bears earned American Mideast Conference
honors. The Bears earned top honors as Haley Halcomb
was named Setter of the Year and Kristy Kamer earned Coach
of the Year status. Along with Halcomb, Heather
Koehler also earned 1st Team honors, while Jami Turrill and
Tiffany Dailey was named to 2nd Team and Megan Wills and Kim
Rosen earned honorable mention recognition. Rosen was
also named to the AMC Freshman Team.

Cross Country
SHAWNEE STATE MEN TAKE 4TH AT NATIONALS; CULBERTSON NAMED
ALL-AMERICAN
The Shawnee State men's cross country team completed the
2009 season with the school's best finish at the NAIA
National Meet as the Bears finished 4th overall of 32 teams.
Senior Corey Culberston placed 24th overall in a time of
25:45 to earn All-American honors. Freshman Galen
Dills finished 49th overall in a time of 26:06.
Sophomore Shane Meyer finished 61th as he completed the
course in 26:14, while junior Josh Linkous finished 69th in
a time of 26:20. Senior Tyler Hickey ran 26:25 to
finish 82nd overall. Juniors Chuck Wentz and Michael
Owen rounded out the scoring for the Bears as they ran 26:44
and 26:59, respectively.
The three
qualifiers for the Shawnee State women's team ran well as
freshman Tisha Grove led the Bears with a time of 20:06 good
for 132nd place. Sophomore Brittney LiPira finished 224th in
a time of 20:51 and Kasey Hosier finished 243rd in a time of
21:00
SHAWNEE STATE MEN FINISH 2ND AT AMC; WOMEN'S TEAM PLACES 3RD
The No. 6 NAIA ranked Shawnee State men's cross country
team finished 2nd at the American Mideast Conference Meet on
Saturday afternoon at Cedarville. The Shawnee State
women's team finished 3rd.

YOUNG BEARS RALLY TO OVERCOME REDSTORM
In an exciting back-for-forth battle in the packed
Waller Gymnasium the Shawnee State men's basketball team
pulled away in the final minutes to beat rival University of
Rio Grande 87-77 Tuesday evening.

Women's Basketball
ALBERS NAMED AMC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Shawnee State guard Mallory Albers has been selected the
AMC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played
on November 9 - 15.
Albers, a 5-7 senior from Fort Loramie,
Ohio, averaged 29 points per game as the NAIA Division II #5
Bears split two games at the Georgetown (KY) Classic.
Albers opened with 29 points as SSU
knocked off NAIA Division I #5 Lee (TN), 73-70 in overtime.
She posted a double-double of 29 points and 10 rebounds in
an 80-76 setback to host Georgetown.
Albers made 19-of-30 shots from the field
including a 7-for-11 showing on three-pointers for 64
percent. She also hit 13-of-17 free throws for 76.5%.
Albers added 12 rebounds, five steals, three assists, and
one block.
ALBERS HAS BIG WEEKEND AS No. 5 BEARS SPLIT AT GEORGETOWN'S
HABITAT CLASSIC
Senior Mallory Albers averaged 29 points, six rebounds,
and two steals as
NAIA No. 5 ranked Shawnee State Bears split a pair of game

COACH TOM ANNOUNCES 2010 WINTER PROSPECT CAMP
Head Coach Ted Tom would like to
announce the 2010 Winter Prospect Camp will be held
Saturday, January 16th, in the James A. Rhodes
Athletic Center on the campus of Shawnee State University.
Registration begins at 9:30am and camp will begin at 10am.
Cost for the camp is $50 for position players or pitchers
only and $75 for athletes that would like to be evaluated as
dual players (pitcher and position). The camp will feature
a professional style workout, introduction to the Shawnee
State Baseball program, a tour of campus and weight room
facility, and a brief instructional period from the Shawnee
State coaching staff.

Men's Soccer
SSU ANNOUNCES FALL OPEN WORKOUT
The Shawnee State University men's soccer program would
like to announce that Sunday, November 22nd is the date for
the fall open workout. The workout will begin at 1:00
p.m. on the campus of Shawnee State University with
registration beginning at 12:00pm. All high school
aged players and collegiate transfers are eligible to
participate. The workout will include training
sessions, a full scrimmage, introduction of the returning
Shawnee State University men's soccer players, and a tour of
campus. The workout will conclude at 4:00 p.m.

Hall of Fame
HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED
The Shawnee State Hall of Fame
Committee is now accepting nominations for the 2010 Hall of
Fame Class. Nominations will be accepted until October
31.

If you would like to nominate an individual who meets the
criteria, please send the athlete's name to
Kara Bobo. Please include the sport and
years played by the athlete. Final selections will be
made by a committee composed of members of the Athletic
Alumni Association.
In addition, the SSU
Athletic Hall of Fame created the Ralph Kavanaugh Home Team
Award in 2005. The Home Team Award is meant to
recognize special service, spirit, and loyalty to Shawnee
State Athletics. Ralph Kavanaugh, long time equipment
manager at Shawnee State, was the first recipient of the
award. The award will not be presented on an annual
basis, and only those individuals whose service and loyalty
to the university is unparalleled will be considered. |

BEARS ANNOUNCE 2010 SCHEDULE
The Shawnee State Bears baseball team would like to announce
their schedule for the upcoming 2010 baseball season
highlighted with a three game series versus 2004 NAIA
National Champion, Cumberland University and 2009 NAIA World
Series participant Campbellsville coming to the friendly
confines of Branch Rickey Park. The schedule consists of 55
games with 25 of those being played on the home turf.

SSU PLANS TO JOIN MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE IN
2010
Shawnee State University has announced its
intent to withdraw from the American Mideast Conference
following the 2009-2010 year. The timing coincides with
their application to join the Mid-South Conference beginning
in the fall of 2010.
“We have enjoyed our time in the AMC having
developed some great friendships and rivalries with numerous
teams throughout the conference,” SSU Athletic Director Jeff
Hamilton said. “However we felt it was the right time to
start looking at an alternative conference as more and more
teams are looking elsewhere.”
