Seven SSU alumni participated in Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine's White Coat Convocation Ceremony August 18, 2007, joining the class of 2011 which numbers 108 students. Southern Ohio Medical Center hosted a luncheon honoring Portsmouth area residents accepted into medical schools July 20, 2007. Seven SSU graduates attended the luncheon: (First Row, L-R) T.J. Stidham, The Ohio State University; Debra Lewis, Ohio University (third from left); Mikell Rase, University of Cincinnati; (Second Row) Jerod Walker, Ohio University (third from left); Jacinda Shaw, Ohio University; Derek Adams, Ohio University; Ashish Patel, St. Mathews (last in row). Shannon Powell ('01, Psychology) completed his M.Ed. in Community and Rehabilitation Counseling from Ohio University in 2007. He and his wife, Wendy Valentine, have been married for three years and live in Waverly. Shannon is currently working as a counselor/case manager at Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center in Chillicothe. Brian Harrison ('00, Business Administration) was named an assistant baseball coach at the University of Dayton July 5, 2007. He and his wife, Traci, reside in Springfield. Ted Tom ('04, Sports Mgt.) was named head baseball coach at Shawnee State University in August 2007. 1990's Kayvilla Blevins ('94, Dental Hygiene) is a dental hygienist at the offices of Dr. Glenn Spradlin in Ashland, KY and Dr. Ron Mays in Vanceburg, KY. She also works at SSU's dental hygiene clinic as a part-time clinical instructor and she has her own photography studio in Vanceburg. Recently, Kayvilla went on a mission trip to Port-de-Paix, Haiti.
