The Shawnee AppalCORPS program is part of an AmeriCorps program grant through Ohio University. Eleven tutors work with students to increase literacy and reading ability in ten area schools. The 2007/08 schools and tutors are:

Portsmouth West Elementary – Ashleigh Jenkins and Sherry Duede
Wheelersburg Elementary – Laurie Willis
Rosemount (Clay) Elementary – Priscilla Wright
Harding Elementary (Portsmouth) – Kaley Fanin
Portsmouth Elementary (Portsmouth) – Kelly Emnett and Roshell Caudill
Northwest Elementary – Dawna Cantrell and Gail Hall

Stanton Elementary (New Boston) – Cindy Gannon
Notre Dame Elementary – Talitha Malone

All the AmeriCorps tutors welcome volunteers in the school to assist them with tutoring reading to young children. If you are interested in tutoring or the AmeriCorps program, contact Debbie Weber (dweber@shawnee.edu 740-351-3451)
