To achieve this year’s certification, SSU’s DPS had to meet standards approved by the Ohio Collaborative.
Shawnee State University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) has achieved the Provisional Ohio Collaborative Law Enforcement Agency Certification status from the Office of Criminal Justice Services.
To achieve this year’s certification, SSU’s DPS had to meet two standards approved by the Ohio Collaborative. Standard 3: Community Engagement and Standard 4: Body Worn Camera (BWC). To fulfill Standard 3, DPS has hosted several community programs on campus including Safety Week, Drug Take Back, Safety Escorts and many more. Standard 4 was met upon documentation from SSU’s DPS Director David Thoroughman indicating that SSU DPS officers are required to wear and activate their BWCs to record all contacts with the campus community, as well as any other citizen in the performance of official duties.
“I think it is important for the Department of Public Safety to not only understand the Ohio Collaborative standards, but to be upheld to these same standards as well,” said Director Thoroughman. “We strive to continue to improve our agency as a sign of our commitment to the campus and community in which we serve.”
