June 6-30, 2016
The exhibit runs June 6-30 in the Appleton Gallery at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
The 2016 Ohio Watercolor Society (OWS) exhibit will be showcased at Shawnee State University starting June 6 through June 30 in the Appleton Gallery at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
The OWS was formed by a group of Ohio artists who were members of the American Watercolor Society whose goals are to advance the stature of watercolor as a major painting medium, to assist in the education of aqueous painting, and to build a greater appreciation and interest of individual artists and the general public towards the art of watercolor. To accomplish these goals, the OWS sponsors an annual juried exhibition, watercolor workshops, critiques, demonstrations as well as lectures, and publishes its own newsletter. OWS is a nonprofit educational organization incorporated in the State of Ohio.
Every year, the OWS bestows a number of awards and scholarships to deserving artists. There are the Gold, Silver and Bronze Buckeye Leaf Awards that are given as the top three monetary prizes. Other cash and merchandise awards are also given out, including OWS Award of Excellence, OWS Merit Award, OWS Award of Distinction, Doug Pasek Memorial Award, Marti Fenker Memorial Award and the Winifred Dodrill Award. On top of the awards, the OWS also provide scholarships to promising high school students and donate to the respective art departments. They have awarded more than $260,000 to Ohio water media artists and institutions.
The OWS exhibit will travel to a total of seven cities throughout the State of Ohio, including Delaware, Maumee, Piqua, Portsmouth, Sidney, Troy and Van Wert. The exhibition comprises 39 selected works, including all award winners and showcases the work of Ohio artists working in water-soluble mediums, such as watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache and egg tempera.
