Lend Me a Tenor will be at 7:30 pm, Apr. 14-16 and Apr. 21-23, in the Kahl Studio Theater.
The Shawnee State University Theatre Department presents Ken Ludwig’s Lend Me a Tenor at 7:30 p.m., Thurs. through Sat., Apr. 14-16 and Apr. 21-23, in the Kahl Studio Theater in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.
Lend Me a Tenor is Ludwig’s classic farce of mistaken identities. The world’s greatest tenor, Tito “Il Stupendo” Morelli, has accidentally been given a double dose of tranquilizers, and in an attempt to salvage the evening, the theater manager’s assistant, Max, dons on the Otello costume and fools the audience at the opera house into thinking that he is Il Stupendo. However, Morelli eventually wakes up and puts on his other Otello costume to perform for the evening. No one is aware that there are now two Otellos running around in costume with fans chasing after them.
Lend Me a Tenor is the winner of three Tony Awards and four Drama Desk Awards. It was nominated for the 2010 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play. The NY Times hailed the play as “one of only two classic farces by a living playwright.”
