Shawnee State University’s Professor Stylianos Hadjiyannis will give a public lecture on Greece and its fate titled, “Being in Greece: a Personal Experience in a Country on the Brink of the Abyss.” The lecture will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30 in Room 020 in the Massie Hall Building.
Dr. Hadjiyannis is a professor of political science and international relations at SSU. He will be sharing his personal experiences of what it was like to experience and travel in Greece during the hard times the country has faced.
Dr. Hadjiyannis will cover topics and events such as the three national elections, closed banks, a third bail out by the international lenders, great depression levels of unemployment, serious drops in births in the country, to the possibility of an eventual exit from the Euro currency.
This lecture is sponsored by the SSU Political Science program and is organized by Dr. Justin Rex, Assistant Professor of Political Science.
“I thought this lecture would not only be a good way to promote the Political Science Program, but in addition to his personal experiences, Dr. Hadjiyannis can offer a unique perspective on the economic crisis Greece is facing since he spends a significant amount of time there each year,” said Dr. Rex.
