The Board of Trustees recognized Professor Barbara Duncan and Professor Xiaodan Huang as Emeritus Faculty.
At its last meeting, the Shawnee State University Board of Trustees recognized Professor Barbara Duncan and Professor Xiaodan Huang as Emeritus Faculty.
The purpose is to recognize selected retiring SSU faculty for outstanding contributions to the teaching, scholarship and service missions of the university. Upon retirement, every full-service faculty member professor is considered by the President for designation as Emeritus Professor. The designation is conferred by the President and reported to the Board of Trustees.
Retired individuals must have at least ten years of full-time employment and a rank of Professor or Associate Professor upon retirement, as well as proof of outstanding contributions to teaching, scholarship, and service missions beyond normal performance expectations.
Duncan was a Professor of the Dental Hygiene Department. She had served a total of 35 years upon her retirement.
“I feel honored beyond measure to receive this prestigious acknowledgement,” said Duncan.
“I can’t begin to describe my love and dedication to SSU, my students and my peers and colleagues. I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to change so many lives in such a positive way and couldn’t imagine choosing any other way to have spent the last 35 years.”
Huang retired as a professor of the Education Department. She has been working at SSU since 1993 and is the current Chair of the Department of Education.
“Having been involved in a wide range of projects over the years, I feel that SSU is a place full of opportunities. It is a university where any new ideas and initiatives are encouraged and supported, especially those that would bring positive learning experiences for students,” said Huang.
