Governor John Kasich has appointed Christopher Shaffer to ServeOhio.
Governor John Kasich has appointed Christopher Shaffer, Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning at Shawnee State University, to ServeOhio, Ohio’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism.
The Ohio Legislature established ServeOhio in 1994 and is purposed specifically to administer grants in Ohio under the federal National & Community Service Trust Act of 1993 and to strengthen Ohio communities through various types of service and volunteerism. The largest of these grants is the AmeriCorps program with over 800 members and 23 programs throughout Ohio.
In addition to AmeriCorps, ServeOhio promotes general volunteerism and works with local networks to increase the capacity of organizations to utilize volunteers more effectively
“I think people in southern Ohio value service. To the extent that I can I will do my best to ensure I represent this region well. I am thankful for the opportunity from the governor,” said Shaffer. “It is a privilege to work with the state leaders about something as important as service and volunteerism, which has always been something I believe in and am passionate about.”
In Shaffer’s role as Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning, he strives for continuous improvement for SSU. A vital part of this commitment is the use of data collection, verification and analysis to make decisions.
“Part of the reason I asked to be on this commission was my background in planning and the use of data,” Shaffer said. “I believe this is will be a beneficial opportunity especially coming from Shawnee State where we already believe in promoting service and volunteerism and promoting the local community.”
