Shawnee State University’s Professor Neil Carpathios named winner of the 28th annual Slipstream Poetry Book Competition

Neil Carpathios has been selected winner of the 28th annual Slipstream Press Poetry Book Competition.

Neil Carpathios, Associate Professor of English and Coordinator of Creative Writing at Shawnee State University, has been selected as the winner of the 28th annual Slipstream Press Poetry Book Competition.

Slipstream Press selected Carpathios’s poetry collection titled “The Function of Sadness” as the winner and will receive a prize of $1000 and 50 free copies of his winning poetry collection to be released September of this year.

“This collection of mine mainly consists of poems that exhibit a certain magical realism in their style and focus,” said Carpathios.

Slipstream Press is a well-established, long-running press based in Niagara Falls, New York.

Carpathios is also the author of other numerous books of poetry, with “The Function of Sadness” being his ninth, and has also recently edited the anthology, “Every River on Earth: Writing from Appalachian Ohio.”
