Lecture on Allure of Istanbul Part of Shawnee State University’s International Week Activities

A lecture by Dr. Alan Gravano will be presented at noon on Oct. 23 in room 214 of the UC.

“The Allure of Istanbul: Contemporary Writers & Turkey” is the topic of a lecture by Dr. Alan Gravano to be presented at noon on Thursday, Oct. 23 in room 214 of the University Center, on the campus of Shawnee State University. The public lecture is part of SSU’s International Week activities.

During his presentation, Dr. Gravano will discuss the unique role the ancient city of Istanbul has played in contemporary literature, from Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway to James Baldwin and Orhan Pamuk.

A visiting assistant professor at Shawnee State University, Dr. Gravano is a specialist in Italian-American literature and teaches creative writing. This summer, he will lead a study abroad program in Istanbul for the Kentucky Institute of International Studies.

His Oct. 23 presentation is one of several public lectures that will be offered during International Week at Shawnee State University, hosted by the Center for International Programs and Activities (CIPA).
