Following its November meeting, the Shawnee State University Board of Trustees established an area of the new Founder’s Plaza to be known as “Trustees Grove” and planted its first three dogwood trees.

The Trustees Grove, located in front of the Administration Building, will serve as an area of special recognition by the board.

“The area that has become the focal point of campus and the entryway to our commencement exercises was named Founder’s Plaza in acknowledgement of the leaders who created Shawnee State University,” Dr. Rita Rice Morris, SSU President, said. “It’s no coincidence that this area is located beside the James A. Rhodes Athletic Center and across from the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts. Having an area that honors trustees who have served to help us continue to grow is very fitting.”

During the meeting, the board also approved a proposal for a new master’s degree program in mathematics that is before the Ohio Board of Regents for review, expanded the existing SSU smoking policy to include e-cigarettes and outdoor events, and accepted the annual financial audit report for fiscal year 2013.
