Cost is important when choosing an institution. Shawnee State provides one of the best educational values in Ohio and beyond. Our tuition is among the lowest in the state and is matched and exceeded by our students’ academic opportunities, challenges, and potential return on their investment.
Making higher education affordable and accessible to students is one of our primary goals. In addition to low tuition, SSU awards more than $2 million in scholarships each year. Reciprocity agreements with neighboring Kentucky also makes SSU an outstanding value for residents of nearby counties including Boyd, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Lawrence, Lewis, Mason, and Rowan County.
We offer the small size and personal attention of a private school in a public school setting. At SSU, our class sizes are small to allow more one-on-one interactions between students and faculty. In student and parent surveys, the personal attention and care by faculty and staff was listed as the strongest single advantage of Shawnee State University. Here, professors go above what is expected to help you achieve more — in and out of the classroom.
At Shawnee State, we are dedicated to preparing you for future success. To do that, we are always looking forward — utilizing advanced technologies, exploring emerging ideas, and continually growing to meet the needs of our current, and future, students.
We are proud to offer one of the nation’s few Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Gaming and Simulation Development and Gaming Engineering and will soon add a Motion Capture facility as part of this program. Our progressive facilities include the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts, featuring an acoustically superior 1,139-seat main theater designed by George Izenour and the Clark Planetarium which houses the world’s first Konica-Minolta Mediaglobe 3D system. Nursing students receive part of their education in the SOMC/SSU Simulation Laboratory, a cutting –edge facility where state-of-the-art computer technology and sophisticated mannequins allow future nurses to gain vital critical thinking and patient assessment skills.
Our personal attention is matched by our commitment to academic excellence. At SSU, you will be challenged to explore new worlds, ideas, and ways of thinking. Here, you will find an intellectually stimulating community that will provide you with the opportunity to learn more about your career, your future, and even yourself. Our experienced faculty members are as unique and diverse as the 80 academic areas that they represent, but they all share a love of teaching and a desire to share their knowledge with you.
In addition to expanding your knowledge and experience in the classroom, SSU offers extensive international study opportunities, with sister-university agreements with Zhejiang University of Technology in China, James I University in Spain, the University of Applied Science in Zittau, Germany, the Al Akhawayn University in Morocco, and most recently with South China Normal University.
