Campus
Denise Brockett
One month from
now students will arrive on campus to begin or resume their college
career! In order to prepare new students for University life, the
Student Success Center has been working in conjunction with many
offices on campus hosting New Student Orientations throughout the
summer. The final dates of Orientation are scheduled for August 16,
2005 and August 30, 2005. If you need more information please call
extension 3594.
Some of the
campus folks who have family coming this fall include the following:

Sharon Messer at extension 3210.
The Natural
Science Department would like to welcome two new faculty members to
campus. Dan Chaffin, Instructor of Biology, and Kurt Shoemaker, PhD,
will be teaching Geology classes this fall. Also, there is to be a
series of Einstein Lectures September 15th, 16th, and 17th in Flohr
Lecture Hall beginning at 7:00pm. No scientific knowledge
necessary!
On a personal
note congratulations go out to Cindy Haney as she's basking in the
glow of grandparent-hood because John Ethan Carter was born in
March 20, 2005. John Ethan has an older brother Tristan who is nine!
Enjoy Cindy! As many of you know Judy Morrow is off recuperating
from a leg fracture, we hope you get well soon Judy! The USA would
like to extend our sympathies to Betty Forbes on the recent death of
her husband Bill. Betty you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Sherry Scott
Sherry Scott is the secretary
for the Educational Opportunity Center in the OACHE office.
Although she’s only been in that position for about eight months,
Sherry has been involved with every TRIO program on Shawnee’s
campus.
Sherry has lived in
Portsmouth, Ohio or the vicinity most of her life. She and
her husband John have 3 children. Josh, who’s 15, Jeremy,
12, and Jonah, 5 all keep life pretty busy. She is the
current President of Portsmouth Little League, and is always
on the lookout for new umpires, coaches, and Board members
(hint, hint).
If you’re ever in the
Administration Building, stop by and say "hi!!" She loves to meet
new friends, or just chat for a minute with an old one.

Comic
Relief
On the first day of college, the Dean addressed the students,
pointing out some of the rules. "The female dormitory will be
off-limits for all male students, and the male dormitory to the
female students. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be fined $20
the first time."
He continued, "Anyone caught breaking this rule the second time will
be fined
$60.
Being caught a third time will result in a hefty fine of $180.
Are there any questions?"
At this, a male student in the crowd
inquires, "How much for a season pass?"
