Around Campus
Carol Sexton

Well, it’s springtime!  I feel like the little bouncing smiley face with a big, big grin.  Or better still, the cartoon picture of Snoopy when he’s in the air and his ears are waving in the wind!  It isn’t so much that I love Springtime, it’s the saying goodbye to Winter and the dreary days that go along with it.  Our campus is looking as beautiful as ever and we owe our thanks to the guys who work so hard to keep it that way.

The Spring Bear Run/Walk is scheduled for next Wednesday, May 4.  Remember our registration is free so don’t hesitate to sign up and take part in this.  If you don’t have a registration form, check with Dr. Larry Mangus’ office to have one sent to you.

On May 7 there will be an Alumni Banquet held in Micklethwaite.  Contact Angela Henderson for more info on that if you haven’t already signed up to go.  Also coming up is the “Test Tubes and Tambourines” Talent Showcase.  This will be Saturday, May 21 at 8 p.m. at the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts.  Tickets are $15.00.  Just before this, is the President’s Gala at 6 p.m. in the University Center.  Reservations are $100.00 per person and include both the gala and talent showcase.

Students are anxiously looking forward to the fast approaching graduation which will be on June 11.

It’s a great time of year, isn’t it?

Paul Carver

Custodian

Paul Carver has worked in the Custodial Dept. for 6 years. He has a great working relationship with fellow team members and enjoys working in a self-directed work team environment.  Paul has been married to spouse Ginger for 43 yrs.  They have three children and six grandchildren.

Paul says working at Shawnee has been a wonderful experience. The administration, faculty, and staff have all been very supportive.  He enjoys the students of the university and always has a friendly face to greet them as they go to and from classes. Paul is always willing to help the students and visitors with any question or situation that they may encounter while on campus.

You can find Paul in his main work area, which is the Administration Building or just about anywhere on campus. Paul has a great attitude and is a real asset to Shawnee State.

Billy Graham with his special trophy presented by the SDWT

Billy Graham retired on March 31st after 13 years as a custodian at SSU.  A retirement celebration was held in his honor on March 24th at the Self Directed Work Team (SDWT) meeting.  The team presented him with a special trophy, a gift, and a story was recited about his time at SSU.  After his retirement, he plans to fish and play golf as much as possible in addition to teaching photography classes here at SSU.  He and his wife have joined the Golden Bears so he'll be back on campus but enjoying his retirement.
