Around Campus

Fall quarter 2004-2005 is well under way and Shawnee State University’s enrollment is the largest in its history at 3,798, an increase of 105 students from 2003-2004.  This enrollment increase is, in no small part, attributable to the caring, professional hourly staff that tends daily to the service and needs of SSU students.

The 10th Annual Fall Shawnee State University 5K Bear Run/Walk was held on Wednesday, October 6th at 6 p.m.  Volunteers and participants received a free t-shirt.

In honor of Founders’ Day, and to celebrate the dedication of our Memorial Garden and the naming of the Dr. Miller & Genevieve Toombs Shawnee State University Children's Learning Center, the USA Spirit Committee invited us to take part in the “Sweet Finale” cake decorating competition, which was held during the Founders’ Day Celebration on October 7th.  The decorated cakes were judged, with the winners announced during the cookout, and then the cakes were served to the campus community.

The USA/CWA sponsored Red Cross Blood Drive was held on Wednesday, October 13, 2004. Thanks to the volunteers who signed up to assist the day of the blood drive.

The annual Bear Care Health Fair was held on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Center Lobby and Baxter Lounge.

The Student Programming Board sponsored a Halloween Carnival that was held in the Rhodes Center on October 19 at 6:00 p.m.  Games and candy was provided for the children.

Secretary

Welcome to Campus!

Sarah Clausing is the secretary in the Children's Learning Center.  Please give a big SSU welcome to Sarah!  When asked to give us some information about herself, this is what she responded.

Sarah Clausing, Secretary at the Children’s Learning Center.
Hire date: July 6, 2004
Lifelong resident of Scioto County

  • Graduated from Shawnee State University in 1999 with an Associate Degree in Business Management
  • Graduated from Shawnee State University in 2002  with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration

Have actually been attending some form of Shawnee since about 1978 when I started taking classes one at a time.

Have 2 boys (young men now!), Adam, who is also a graduate of SSU and is now employed by OSCO, and Nick who is attending SSU this year is a freshmen.  We live in the Minford area and are all SSU loyalists!

I’m very happy to be employed at SSU and really love the CLC.  The kids here are all so great.  And not just the little kids- we have great SSU Teaching Assistants who are employed here and they are all so wonderful with the children, not to mention our fantastic teachers and our dedicated leader and director, Miss Cindy. It’s a busy, fun, active and enriching place to work and a very positive experience & influence on our community.  Thank you Shawnee for giving me this opportunity!
