UAA Meeting Co-Chair Bill Rockwell called the meeting to order at 10:06 a.m. The minutes from the March 20, 2008 meeting were distributed. Rick Merb made a motion to approve the minutes. Mark Moore seconded. Motion passed. New Business 1) Report on Annual Raise Status Co-Chair Ann Marie Short reported that she and Bill would meet with Elinda this month to discuss the raise status. 2) Report of the Nominating Committee Angela Henderson reported that nominations are now being accepted for UAA officers for 2008-2009. The positions are: Chair/Co-Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer, Member-At-Large, Member-At-Large ATSS. Angela reported there are nominees for each of the positions except Member-At-Large. Anyone interested in a position should contact a member of the Nominating Committee by April 30th. The committee consists of Angela, Sarah Clausing and Brian Saul. The election will be in May. 3) Celebration of Scholarship Shannon Lawson of the Celebration of Scholarship Committee spoke to the group about the fourth annual event which is Thursday, April 17th. Shannon reported that 70 students will be presenting and she pointed out some sessions that may be of interest to the group. The entire presentation schedule can be found online at http://www.shawnee.edu/off/cml/celebrationsch/celebrationsch.html. Shannon explained that the opportunity for undergraduates to present is unique and they are presenting on interesting topics. She told the group that if they go to a presentation that they can brag on Shawnee State and what our students are doing. Bob Trusz commended Shannon for the growth of the event. Campus Announcements 1) UAA Newsletter Ann Marie apologized for the tardiness of the UAA newsletter this month and asked for anyone with information for it to submit it to Angela. Angela explained that the newsletter would be out this week and that items for it should be sent ASAP. 2) Kiwanis Pancake Festival Ann Marie reported that the annual Kiwanis Pancake Festival is going on all day today at the SOMC Friends Center. 3) SAM’s Club Representative Bill Rockwell reported on behalf of Denise Gregory that the SAM’s Club representative would be in the University Center lobby from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today. We must have 50 people signed up or the program will be a no go. 4) Bear Cubs Career Fair Lois Rase announced that the Bear Cubs will have their career fair Friday, May 9th in 34 rooms across campus. There will also be displays in the Vern Riffe Center for the Arts lobby beginning at noon. If anyone is interested in having a display to share information about their area, they should contact Lois Rase. University-Wide Committee Reports 1) Special Events Committee Nikki Montgomery reported that the Spring Picnic is scheduled for Thursday, April 17th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of Massie Hall. If anyone is interested in helping grill, they should contact Nikki. 2) Athletic Intramural Committee Bob reported that the committee has met and that changes within the Athletic Department have not affected the committee. 3) Enrollment Management Bob reported that the committee will meet Monday. Concerns/Other Announcements 1) Seniors to Sophomores program Bob reported that the grant for SSU’s Seniors to Sophomores program was approved and that SSU may be the only four-year university in the state participating. There will be 20 high school students in the program this fall: 16 from Portsmouth High School and 4 from New Boston. In order to qualify, students must have passed all parts of the OGT, be an eligible member of the class of 2009, have passed three years of English and two years of certain math courses and be college ready (i.e. sufficient score on ACT or other placement test). 2) Campus Security Assessment Barb Bradbury asked about the assessments that have been going on with campus security. Bill reported that we are close to hiring our new Security Director. 3) Housing Numbers Bill reported that housing applications are way up. 4) Human Resources Judi McGraw reported that Chris Nourse will be returning to SSU as the Associate Director of Human Resources. 5) Rappelling Class Brian Saul reported that his rappelling class will be on the library tonight at the right of the rotunda. They will be rigging at 4 p.m. with rappelling beginning at 5 p.m. Brian acknowledged the support of the university for this activity. Bob Trusz made a motion to adjourn the meeting with Mark Moore seconding. Motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 10:41 a.m.
