“I’ve always liked taking things apart just to see how they work. Computer engineering turned out to be the perfect thing for me.”

“I came to college knowing a lot about computers. The professors here have pushed my limits. They’ve taught me things I never thought I’d learn.”

Brittany performing in Batboy: The Musical

Aaron O’Rourke fell in love with the inside of a computer in second grade. He’s always been fascinated with how things work. As he grew older, he enjoyed finding solutions to computer problems and became interested in learning computer programming.

As a Computer Engineering Technology major at Shawnee State University, he’s been able to take his interests further. Through internships, joint projects, and advanced study in both software and hardware development, he’s excited about the career opportunities waiting for him after graduation.

He hopes to one day specialize in reverse-engineering malware, although he admits that his “coolest” project so far was an automated motor-sensor foam dart shooter.

Aaron’s advice to high school students:

“Make sure you’re dedicated to whatever major you choose and find good friends.”
