Social Science with Legal Assisting

Bachelor of Arts in Social Science
(2+2 for Students who complete the Legal Assisting Program)

This program is designed for students who have completed the associate degree in legal assisting at Shawnee State and who wish to pursue a baccalaureate degree (e.g. in preparation for law school).

 Degree Requirements

Completion of Legal Assisting Program                                   68 Hours*

 Additional General Education Program                                  25 Hours**

Additional Social Science Core Courses                                15 Hours***

Upper Division Social Science Electives (3000 - 4000 level)     24 Hours

Total Hours Required                                                           132 Hours 

*Includes 12 hours of the General Education Program and 6 hours of Social Science courses. Social Science majors must take SOSC 1110S: Foundations of Social Sciences in satisfaction of the Social Science component of the General Education Program.

** Includes the General Education Program courses that have not already been taken within the Legal Assisting Associate Degree Program. Please see your advisor to determine specifically what is required.

***Social Science majors must achieve a minimum grade of C in each social science course (both in the Core and Upper Division categories) in order to graduate. Majors can not double-count courses that satisfy both their major and General Education Program requirements or both their major and the Legal Assisting Associate Degree Program.  See your advisor for further information.

ANTH. 2250: Principles of Cultural Anthropology (or GEOG. 1125: World Geography or GEOG. 1130: Economic Geography or GEOG 2201: Cultural Geography)

ECON. 2202: Principles of Macroeconomics (or Sciences or ECON. 2201: Principles of Microeconomics)

HIST. 1110: American History to 1865 (or HIST. 1120: American History Since 1865 or GOVT. 1101: National Government)

HIST. 1130: World History to 1600 (or HIST. 1140: World History since 1600)

SOCI. 1101: Introduction to Sociology

  Upper Division Social Science Electives (24 Hours)

In consultation with your faculty advisor, select 24 credit hours of upper division social science electives from any of the following disciplines:

• Anthropology (ANTH) • Economics (ECON) • History (HIST) • Geography (GEOG) • Government (GOVT) • Psychology (PSYC) • Social Science (SOSC) • Sociology (SOCI)
