Choosing a Course of Study in Mathematics

The Bachelor of Science with a Major in the Mathematical Sciences expands on the traditional major in pure mathematics. It includes a choice among three different tracks for advanced coursework, to accommodate students with various interests and goals.

An Teacher Licensure (Grades 7-12) Option is available for students who wish to become secondary school teachers. Students who wish to become middle school teachers should refer to the Bachelor of Science in Education with Middle Childhood Licensure (Grades 4-9) offered through the Department of Teacher Education.

The Minor in the Mathematical Sciences is for students who wish to supplement their major in another program with a program of coursework in mathematics

The Associate of Science degree provides the option of a concentration in Mathematics at the level of a two-year degree.

The General Education Program (GEP), which is required of all students pursuing a baccalaureate degree at Shawnee State University, includes a Quantitative Reasoning Requirement, which is satisfied by taking a mathematics course carrying the GEP designation.
