Students may apply for the ATS program by presenting their intent to the appropriate department chairperson, who will assist them in planning and individualized program of study.  The program may be denied if:
1. Standards are not comparable to other technologies offered at Shawnee State University.
2.  The proposed ATS program duplicates an existing technology offered at Shawnee State University.

For situations in which the University does not offer technical courses needed to fulfill the ATS degree requirements, cooperative arrangements may be entered into with approved public and private colleges, as well as accredited correspondence schools, vocational centers, and schools conducted by business and industry.  Transfer credits, credits by examination, or credit by any other acceptable method in current use at Shawnee State University may be granted.

Graduation Requirements
Graduation requirements for the ATS degree program will adhere to the same requirements of any technical program at Shawnee State University.
1.  Minimum of 60 semster credit hours of coursework.
2.  Minimum of 19 semester credit hours in general education, including 6 semester credit hours in English, 3 semester credit hours of mathematics at or above 1020, 9 semester credit hours total from three different areas of the Foundational level of the University's General Education program as approved by the student's faculty advisor.
3.  Minimum of 12 semester hours in industrial engineering technology core courses as approved by the student's faculty advisor.
4.  Degree Concentration:
    A.T.S. Type A:  Minimum of 30 semester hours in industrial and engineering technology studies of which 15 are to be concentrated in a single discipline.  This is he area of study where ATS students will have the greatest input to define their occupational goals.
    A.T.S. Type B:  Maximum of 30 semester hours in industrial and engineering technology related studies undertaken at other institutions of higher education, vocational centers, career centers (Adult Worforce Education -- AWE), Ohio Career Technical Credit Transfer (CT2) initiative, DD214 reports, or other educational enterprises such as apprenticeship training.
5.  Minimum of 2.00 grade point average overall.
6.  Minimum of 30 semester credit hours of supervised coursework after acceptance into the A.T.S. program.
7.  Maximum of 12 semester hours earned through portfolio assessment.

Initial Counseling Procedure
A student's interest in pursuing the A.T.S. degree will begin with the application procedure by first being directed to the chairperson, Department of Engineering Technologies for tentative program approval.  Students who plan to use the life experiences or other non-collegiate work as part of their A.T.S. degree must enroll in the course ETCO 1001 Technical Portfolio Development (1 Cr. Hr.)
