State PTA Program Goals
The
PTA Program supports the following goals that are consistent with
the goals of the University.
Teaching
and Learning
-
To
graduate entry-level physical therapist assistants who
demonstrate technical competence, make sound clinical decisions,
and provide safe and effective health care
-
To
prepare physical therapist assistants to practice in an ethical
manner within the scope of practice as defined by the profession
and licensure requirements
-
To
prepare physical therapist assistants to work collaboratively as
a member of the healthcare team in the best interest of the
client
-
To
graduate physical therapist assistants who are sensitive to and
knowledgeable of clients from diverse backgrounds
Growth
and Development
-
To
recruit and graduate individuals who have the abilities and
motivation to be successful as physical therapist assistants
-
To
maintain an environment to help individuals in the physical
therapist assistant program meet personal and professional goals
Community
-
To
improve the healthcare of underserved populations by recruiting
and graduating physical therapist assistants to meet the needs
of the region for qualified health professionals

To
initiate and support activities that encourage lifelong learning
among health care professionals in the region
Shawnee
State PTA Program Objectives
At
the time of graduation, each graduate will have:
-
completed
all course objectives, as mirrored in Section 3 of the CAPTE
criteria
-
completed
all Clinical Performance Instrument (CPI) competencies at or
near entry-level ratings, as defined within the CPI for the PTA
-
demonstrated
knowledge and awareness of the SSU PTA Program's mission and
philosophy; and possessing the appropriate behavior, psychomotor
skills, and cognitive knowledge base to be a generalist PTA
-
satisfied
the SSU Essential Functions within the educational program
-
displayed
professionalism, including actively participating in
professional activities; collaborating with relevant personnel
and consumers of care; practicing ethically, legally and safely
in all assigned interventions; and exercising sound judgment
