PTA Program Updates    rev. 11/01/07

Since the program continues to undergo changes within our offerings, faculty will now provide updates to prospective candidates and current students via this updates link. We apologize for any inconvenience that our changes may have caused students or staff. Students are encouraged to meet or call a faculty member for more specifics or to answer any questions.

Please Note:  The Faculty, in concert with the Interim Dean of Professional Studies and the PTA Advisory Committee, reserves the decision to adjust to the semester conversion to aide in the most efficient administration of the program.  A change in the ordering of a few classes in Summer and Fall term of 2008 will ensue, per recommendations generated from our most recent fall advisory meeting. These changes will not match the original order in the new catalogue, found at: http://www.shawnee.edu/pub/cat/2007-09_catalog.pdf

For 2008:

Spring 2008 Semester-New applicants will apply as usual to the program beginning in mid-January, utilizing the online links and PDF file. The program now requires 40 hours of job shadowing in at least two clinical different settings, with a minimum of 8 hours in any setting. Students may request a hard copy of the online packet if needed by contacting the Health Sciences Representative. Students must complete at least half of the indicated courses, plus have taken high school or college Intro. to Biology, Intro. to Chemistry and Algebra with at least a "C", and complete the other requirements for the packet to be considered for selection. The deadline for application will be April 1st in any year, but early application is recommended for the limited number of seats available.

If candidates meet a qualifying score, they will be called for an on campus interview on selected Saturday's during the spring semester.

The PSB Aptitude Online Survey will now be offered to those applicants who qualify for an interview, awarding up to 5 points in the selection process. The survey will be offered the afternoon prior to the weekend interview dates in spring or the afternoon of the interviews, which are held once per month on Saturday's. The cost is $18 and is payable to the SSU-PTA Program.

Summer 2008 Term-The program will change the order of classes: moving PTAT 2123 into the summer term while   moving PTAT 1115 and PTAT 1235 courses into the fall semester.
