The Department of NursingAssociate Degree in Nursing A Message from Dr. Mattie Burton, Associate DeanChair of the Department of NursingWelcome to nursing at Shawnee State University! On behalf of the faculty, I am pleased you have decided to spend time on our site reviewing the wonderful opportunities we can offer. Nursing has always been an invaluable part of SSU life and continues to contribute mightily to the healthcare culture regionally. Each year, we graduate two classes of associate degree prepared nurses who practice across a wide geographic area from coast to coast. Many of them begin taking courses toward the baccalaureate degree while in the ADN program and continue post-licensure to complete the professional degree at Shawnee State. RN-BSN students are admitted every semester, including summer, and are able to take courses online, in a traditional classroom on their worksite, or in a combination of these. Nursing faculty are credentialed expert educators and are technically savvy to help you learn in a manner comfortable to your style. We welcome your questions and advisors are here to serve you in your commitment to learn to provide the best quality nursing care to our community and beyond. Sincerely, Mattie Burton PhD, RN, NEA-BC
