Minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)

This major is a free-standing program within the Department of English and Humanities, although it also provides part of the coursework necessary for licensure within the state of Ohio in the area of TESOL.  To complete the minor, 21 credit hours of coursework are required as listed below, with 5 additional courses recommended.  For details regarding TESOL licensure within the state of Ohio, see the Department of Teacher Education.

SPAN 1111 Elementary Spanish 1
SPAN 1112 Elementary Spanish 2
or a minimum of two semesters of coursework in any first-year foreign language sequence.
LING 3360 Introduction to Language and Linguistics
LING 3362 Patterns of English
LING 4455 English Language in Society
LING 4999 Topics in Ling.:  Methods of Teaching ESL
