Evidence

As you consider your issue or research it, develop reasons supported by varied, sound evidence that your particular audience will find persuasive.

--The Longman Concise Companion, p. 88

Whenever you make a claim that your target audience may question, back it up with specific and appropriate evidence.  Chapter 13, section c (pages 88-89) of The Longman Concise Companion mentions five types of evidence that can be useful in writing papers:

  • Details,
  • Comparisons,
  • Quotations and ideas from authorities,
  • Examples, and
  • Logical links.
