Appropriate diction (word choice) is an important aspect of a college paper.  The Longman Concise Companion addresses diction in Chapter 45: Choosing Appropriate Words (pages 418-22).   Most of Chapter 45 emphasizes three main guidelines for diction:

  • Adjust your diction to your context and your readers (419)
  • Adjust your diction to your purpose (420)
  • Adjust your diction to your persona (420)
