The English SequenceNearly all SSU students are required to take two composition courses as part of the General Education Program, but less-experienced writers may need to take one or more developmental English courses before beginning the English sequence. Entering students are placed into developmental English, ENGL 1101 (the standard first-semester course) or 1102 (an accelerated version of the first-semester course); students who successfully complete ENGL 1101 or 1102 are eligible for ENGL 1105, the second and final course in the English sequence. The grading standards used in English 1101, 1102, and 1105 are available here. Under the quarter system, the English sequence consisted of three courses: ENGL 111, 112, and 115. Students who took English 111 (and no other composition course) under the quarter system must take ENGL 1104 and ENGL 1105 to complete the English sequence. Students who took English 111 and 112 (but not ENGL 115) under the quarter system must take ENGL 1107 to complete the English sequence. |
