Admission Requirements
for Transfer Students
Whether you will be transferring a few college courses or transferring an associate degree to one of our baccalaureate degree programs, you will find Shawnee State to be a transfer-friendly university choice.
We begin by making it easy to apply through our on-line application for admission. You will then be required to submit official transcripts from each college or university previously attended. Please note that college transcripts must be received via mail from the school's Registrar's office to be considered official.
Transfer Course Evaluation Sequence
Often times, incoming transfer students want to know the sequence involved in applying transfer credit toward a degree program at Shawnee State University. The following procedure describes this process.
- Fill out a Shawnee State University on-line transfer application for admission and have your college/university transcript(s) sent to the Office of Admission to start the transfer process.
- Submit an official copy of your high school transcript, either by having it mailed or faxed directly from the high school, or hand-carried to the Office of Admission in a sealed envelope signed by your high school guidance counselor. The transcript must include an official graduation date.
- Whether you have attended one or multiple college/university(s), you must have each institution send an official transcript. College transcripts must be received directly from those institutions. Photocopies, fax, and hand-carried college transcripts are not accepted.
Application and transcript(s) should be sent to the following address:
Office of Admission
Shawnee State University
940 Second Street
Portsmouth Ohio 45662-4344
*Fax: 740-351-3111
*(Fax number is for high school transcripts only)
- Upon receipt of these documents you will receive a formal notice of admission. Your student ID number and MySSU login will be included with your acceptance letter.
- The Office of Admission at SSU provides a copy of your transcript(s) to the Registrar's Office.
- Next, the Registrar's Office posts your transfer credit to your SSU transcript. You will then receive a cover letter and a copy of your SSU transcript when this step has been completed.
- If you have declared a major, you should meet with your academic advisor so they can review your degree audit and confirm transfer equivalencies were awarded correctly for your major.
- Sign up for a Registration/ Orientation date. As a transfer student, your emphasis on this day is class registration.
- If you receive federal financial aid, log onto http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and add Shawnee State's FAFSA code: 009942
- Contact Nikki Montgomery or Laurie Hatton in the SSU Office of Financial aid so they can verify if any grants at your previous college could affect your financial aid package at Shawnee State. This is rare, but both the student and the Financial Aid office need to know this early.
- If you received student loans at your previous college or university, please contact their financial aid office and request that they cancel any pending loan disbursements. SSU cannot award you loan money until any pending loans have been cancelled. If you have questions, please contact Charlotte Hardy in the Financial Aid Office at SSU for assistance.
